Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

Oh, I am just thisclose to deciding to do the Glass Slipper Challenge! I have to figure out if I'm completely nuts or if the excitement of another event and TWO other medals will be enough to kick my training into high gear. I wonder what the course for the 10k will be? And boy oh boy am I ever dying to see the medals!

I think I remember seeing that the 5k medals are actually made of rubber or plastic; what have other Disney 10k medals been made of?

It should be metal if they are calling it a medal....I think for the plastic/rubber 5k's they call them medallions. For the price, they better be metal! :)

Hot dog! And not just for the sake of real metal medals, but I am now definitely in! My BFF and running buddy for the Princess agreed last night to take on the Glass Slipper Challenge with me, so here we go! Let the training commence!

I'm in! Very excited. Already had my hotel for the half when they announced this challenge. Can't turn down the chance to get multiple medals:) I've wanted to do a Disney race for years, now I can do two. One question for those experienced in all this. I am staying on my parents points at BWV. If this is not a host hotel with bus transportation how hard will it be for me to get to the start? Should I consider snagging a host hotel just for the night before the races or even just one or the other? When do they announce host hotels? At registration time?

All hotels are race hotels :) so don't worry there will be transportation from BWV!

Really? That's great news! I read somewhere there was one hotel in each price category (value, mod, deluxe) and others had to bus to Downtown Disney and switch from there. Maybe it applied to a different Disney race. Thanks for the good news!

Tower of Terror 10-miler and Wine & Dine half are set up that way, but for marathon weekend and princess weekend, every resort is a race resort.

Quick question. Can you take the monorail to the start of the Princess? I've only done the WDW Marathon in January, and you could monorail to the start of that. I wasn't sure where the Princess began.

Thanks! :)

Yes, the monorails are running for the Princess, at least they were the last couple years.

Awesome, thanks so much! :thumbsup2 I had a terrible time with the buses this year at the WDW Marathon from POR, and I vowed to only monorail to races from now on. :lmao:

Danhockey04 already gave you the answer about the monorail, but to expand on the starting point, it's from one of the Epcot parking lots. At least, that's where the bag check and gathering areas are, and from there you walk to the corrals. After hearing about the problems some people had with the buses this year, I would always stick to a monorail resort if you can swing it!

Sounds like the marathon - I think the Princess and the Donald are the same course, so monorail it is!

Goes both ways. The monorail has broken down on race morning as well. Think it was 05 when the start was delayed almost an hour so they could bus in the runners who stayed on the monorail.

I was staying at BLT for the princess in 2012 and there was no monorail before. Everyone that stayed at CR/BLT were getting taxis. We had a car so my husband dropped me off. This may have changed this year but i know there was no monorail option before the race the year I did it.

I stayed CR for the PHM 2013 and the monorails were wonderful.

I think enough people complained and they started it for 2013. So good to know it now is an option!

I don't think it was so much the complaining but the popularity of the PHM allowed Disney to make all hotels "host" hotels. Runners knew when they chose a non-host hotel in 2012 that no race day transportation would be provided from the hotel. The first year only 4 hotels were considered host and provided transportation. You'll see this will the smaller events (Everest, TOT, Wine & Dine).

For those of you who are experienced in these challenges, when in your training do you start incorporating back to back runs? Or do you run daily? I usually vary daily exercise between running and cycling/spinning, circuit training, and swimming. I know to get ready for the 10k followed by the half I will need to do some long runs (long for me at least;) ) on back to back days. Not sure if I should jump right into this or hold off until 3-4 months out from the race.
