Official first day at full capacity

We were at WDW two weeks ago during spring break and even then it felt less crowded that our early 2020 trip.

I'm pretty solid if Disney wants to keep the reservation system and lower numbers. 🤣

I wonder what full capacity really is? I remember going to a Marshalls during the pandemic and it had something like "max occupancy of 220 people" which was 50% capacity, but would have felt totally insane/packed.

Magic kingdom full capacity was 80 or 90k I believe. They’ll never get back to those days. I think we’re seeing 45-50 now though

We have been to the parks at full capacity. December 27-29, 2017. It was our FIRST trip. Thank goodness I had a brain to research, find these boards and plan. It made all the difference. Amazing time.. but when I say capacity... I mean lines upon lines of people in the esplanade waiting to be let into Disneyland. A giant sign facing harbor saying "PARKS are busy! No same day tickets" Somewhere I have a write up on this board of tips and tricks for these days. I remember one being that we made our blue bayou Fantasmic reservations for dinner so we would be okay to leave the parks for a break. When we returned we were able to walk up to this CM with a GIANT binder who verified our reservation and let us in.

Anyway.. I hope that parks are never like that again.. even for the Christmas break crowd. This is one reason I'm okay with the park reservations. It's also why I don't get too hung up with crowds. Once you see that and figure out how to successfully navigate around it... you don't tend to worry about it anymore.

According to my source, they had been at 85% the month of April.

Disneyland did feel busier today than the last 2 days. I was surprised to see lines past the monorail at all turnstiles at 1030. Yesterday was 2-3 people in line.

DCA not so much.

It felt pretty dang busy when we were there last week, April 20-22nd. Week after Easter, so I wasn’t surprised. It was my first time navigating Genie+, after having MaxPass down solid pre-pandemic, and doing 3 trips last year without. It just felt kinda frantic, especially after 10 am.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does 100% capacity mean in this context?

Is it about how many people they are allowing into the park? If that’s the case, it certainly doesn’t seem like it’s literally at pre-covid NYE gate-closing capacity levels. Does it mean they are staffed to normal pre-Covid levels for this time of year?

It’s confusing to me since, with the reservation system, wouldn’t they know exactly how many people are in the park, and staff appropriately?

Josh D'Amaro said in a recent interview that staffing was at the level they wanted.

And I believe they are indeed staffed at the level they desire. Problem is that isn't necessarily the level the guests desire.

That makes sense, although “100% of the level we want” seems pretty meaningless to guests and doesn’t give much insight into reservations or how crowded the park will be.

Maybe some magical day in the future they’ll normalize long enough that the reservations system will be dropped.

It means they can opperate at pre Covid capacity.

This article wasn't talking about park capacity. It was talking about the staffing levels.

"D’Amaro said staffing is essentially at the level the park wants, although he acknowledged that updates and fine-tuning still have to occur."

My understanding of '100% capacity' is the number of people allowed based on the 'physical area' and/or restaurants & attractions open for use (ie places people are 'dispersed' into). So if, say, TL was totally 'closed' then the 100% capacity number would be less than if ALL 'lands' were open. If all lands were open but 50% of the attractions were closed then the 100% capacity number would also be reduced. But no one knows exactly what those numbers are or how they are determined, other than that they're supposedly set by the Fire Marshal.

Now, Disney's current idea of 100% capacity may have less to do with that and more to do with staffing and 'open facilities' (restaurants, rides, etc). And who knows how the heck they're going to calculate that.

So it could be that DL is at '100% of staffed facilities capacity' but less than the physical 'fire marshal capacity'.

Capacity is the number of people allowed, based on space open, set by the fire marshal. (It also includes the number of employees on duty.). Examples - Toontown is closed as is the Fantasyland Theater. With those closed, capacity is lowered based on the number that is counted there. It will be interesting to see how they decide to allot the reservations going forward.
