I ended up cancelling. Westjet was sooo good to me, they were able to give a credit. Thank goodness! I would have felt so bad if we lost everything. I had travel insurance, but they hadn't gotten back to me if it was covered yet. A disney trip is still in the horizon, either when he's immunized, or maybe Disneyworld.

When I gave birth to my son my daughter had chicken pox (she was vaccinated, but still got a mild form).

What an odd coincidence, DS got chicken pox just like your DD, vaxxed and got a mild case!

I just discovered this site, and I'm so glad I did because I think I've been annoying my friends with all of my Disneyland talk haha. Anyway, I'm only 9 days out from my annual birthday trip and I just booked my birthday lunch at BB, so I couldn't be more excited! I'm fighting the urge to start packing already. The suitcases might be brought out this weekend.

I know there are quite a few closures/referbs, but I want to make sure to get the most out of my trip so are there any can't miss rides/foods/activities that you guys always make a point to do?

A few pages ago, we were talking about who had already started packing... I may be one of them No shame in getting an early start on it!

Nope no shame at all, best way to work out what you need to buy and gives you time to buy it. Especially If you need to buy winter things in a summer climate, so hard...Gggrrr

That's a good point. I always seem to miss things the first time I pack, so giving myself extra time is probably the way to go. I'm driving instead of flying this year, which I wasn't thrilled about, but at least I'll have the luxury of being able to overpack, which I'm great at.

DH, DD (4), DS (3) and I will be taking our kids to DL staying at PPH from 2/1-6.
It will be our kids first Disney experience. I'm SO excited seeing how my son just had his first visit to the Disney Store and he stopped in his tracks at the door and said "Wooooow, this is amazing." their minds are going to be blown.

Has anyone heard of the pool at PPH is going to be close too? I know it won't be hot but we're from Seattle, 70 is like middle of August for us. We have a room that faces the pool deck and we considered that to be a big perk. It won't be if the pool is closed

DH, DD (4), DS (3) and I will be taking our kids to DL staying at PPH from 2/1-6. It will be our kids first Disney experience. We have decided anything we need but can not find, we can get over there. Since it is winter there.

I feel your pain! My daughter is a horrible packer! She always forgets things, never packs anything sensible and then complains when she left stuff at home. I figure she's old enough to figure out what she wants to take but then unfortunately I need to listen to her whine and complain when she messes it up....

I know there is already an actual thread about this but since so many of us are just a week or two away from our trip, I wanted to ask this in here. Is anyone concerned about the measles outbreak?

I wasn't really concerned at all but the more they talk about it on our local news, the US news, news articles, etc. the more uneasy I'm feeling. I'm not worried about my kids, they've both been vaccinated, as has my DH (who is quite a few years younger than me). I'm concerned about myself. I'm almost 40 years old and while I've been vaccinated, it was a lifetime ago lol I'm sure I'll be fine but it has definitely been on my mind the past couple of days. I called my doctor today and to get in for a blood test to check for immunities but I'd first need to go see him, then go to get the blood work done and then go back to him for the results. I simply do not have the actual time left to do that (can't get into see him until next Thursday since it's not an urgently needed appointment), so that's totally out of the question.

Anyone in this thread around my age? What are your thoughts about this outbreak? Are you concerned?

Ahh someone who feels my pain...lol...she just assumes we can buy stuff there - on any holiday we take...she forgot underwear and bras on one trip, after just buying her all new stuff for that particular trip, i had to fork out for more, as the only ones she had, was what she was wearing and we were away for 2 weeks...lol

I am just over your age - 41 in 2 days , I am concerned about us both, as my daughter, although vaccinated does tend to pick up these sorts of diseases, she got whooping cough really bad at age 2, got a few different types of measles between age 2 & 5. She is like a magnet for illness.

Then me, It was a life time ago I was vaccinated. Can't remember when I was pregnant if my immunity was fine or not, I can't remember if I got a booster then, but that would have only been for Rubella...so that wouldn't cover just measles...

I honestly only really got concerned this morning, after seeing on the news, that cases were still occuring at Disney. I thought the cases in December were far enough back, for Disney to now be clear. Not the case, apparently the last report case at Disney was Sunday just gone.

We live in a small town, Dr appointments are as rare as hens teeth. I have no chance at all of getting into my Dr to get the blood test request, getting results back and then back in if I need a booster between now and Friday 30/1. Especially since Monday is a public holiday due to Australia Day.

We will just hope and pray that is one souvenir we don't bring back.

If your daughter already had measles, she is immune and can't get it again.

And there's not a few types of measles, there's just measles. Might have been mumps or scarlet fever you're thinking of.

I hear you on the temps, I'm only a bit North of you on Vancouver Island and when I've been checking the 14 day forecast and seeing temps in the 20's I am thrilled! I just hope they stay 23C (73.5F)and higher, that would make me so happy!

As for the pool being closed, I haven't read about any closures but I'm pretty sure that if the pool at one of the DLR hotels is closed, any guests there can use the pool at the other DLR hotels.

I'm a little bit older than you (43 in March) and I'm not really worried. DS (9) is fully vaccinated, DH had to be vaccinated when he was in the Navy and I had my titer test done when I was pregnant with DS and I am fine. So, I'm not considering cancelling our trip although I can understand why some people would, especially if they have children too young for the MMR or they are traveling with someone who is not able to be vaccinated.

So I wasn't worried at all since my kids are fully vaxed even the wee ones have had two doses because there was an outbreak here last year and our daughter was immune compromised shortly before so they made an exception and vaccinated our two youngest early to protect her.

What I didn't think of at that time, and until it was posted here a couple days ago is I have NO IDEA if DH and I are covered.

So in Canada anyway they didn't start doing the booster, 2nd shot, until 1996 and anyone who was born between 1952 and 1996 should have gone to get two shots once they started them. Neither DH nor I or our parents can remember if we went. I realized this yesterday! So I talked to the heath nurse. You "CAN" do the blood test but that takes time and we leave in two weeks - it takes two weeks for the shot to be fully active although you will get some immunity right away.

SO anyway our plan is to skip the blood test since there isn't time. The nurse told me that you can't be "over vaccinated" against measles so we are both getting boosters today. I don't even have to try to get into the Dr - here pharmacies and travel clinics have the shot! We are going to our local pharmacy tonight to get the booster shot AND it's even FREE!

It's been said I believe by the chief Dr on Disneyland staff that if you are not vaccinated you should not come to the parks or go anywhere that there are large groups of international tourists for that matter.

My youngest turns 4 a week after we get back from DL. He's had his first MMR but not his second but I called our Pediatrician today and she recommended he get it early due to the outbreak. Glad I called but add one more thing to the to-do list.
