Official February 2014 Thread...

We have had snow come almost every day since Thanksgiving. I am loving it and so is my youngest. I love that he loves to help me shovel. I am glad that we are getting our winter now instead of in March or April which has been the case for the past few years.

With that said, It will make our February trip that much more enjoyable.

Not wanting to mix threads but wanted to let all my Feb WDW bound peeps know that it was just posted that the monorail will be closed the whole month on weekdays from 11am to 7pm for maintaince. The EPCOT loop will remain open. Thought y'all might want a heads up in case you don't follow all incoming threads. ;)

Question for the peeps who may have gone in February in the past!
Heading down from 2/10-2/13, and was curious if they do any kind of light decor for Valentine's Day? I did see somewhere they make cupcakes for the day, but is it only on 2/14? Or do they have them all week/several days/month long?

I think it's just for the day. This year they had a Limited Time Magic for a week to celebrate but I don't think it's normally that long from memory.

So if we have an 'Ohana dinner ADR on an Epcot day we'll still be able to take the monorail to get there?

Yes, but you will need to walk from the TTC.

Really? The monorail doesn't go straight to the Poly? Bummer. How did I not know that? :p Anyway, do you know about how long of a walk it is? Are there signs that will point us in the right direction?

There are rumors that there may be resort direct buses from EPCOT during this time. It hasn't been confirmed yet though. We have the same issue as we have a CM reservation at contemporary. I imagine I will just wait until check-in and ask what's up so I know the best most direct route. All that being said, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to your reservation ;)

Hi! We're going Feb. 1-8 for our 2nd family trip to DW! First time for my DS and Nana is coming too!

To take the monorail to the Poly, you have to switch from the Epcot monorail to the resort loop monorail at the TTC. However, the resort loop will be closed and the TTC is only about a 150 yard walk to the Poly....

Someone else's post said it was non peak hours?

We are staying at the Poly. Does this mean it's going to be difficult/take a lot longer to get back to the resort mid-day??? I was really hoping to get back to the resort every afternoon for a rest.

You can just take the water taxi. It might take a wee bit longer, but it will still get you back during the day.

Fellow DISers = gathering up my packing list for surprise trip in 62 days... one list online notes packing an 800 fill down coat for "winter" trips. we live in Louisiana and have never needed such a thing and had planned to just bring our fleece jackets on the plane (save luggage space)... these coats are upwards of $100 each and with 4 of us would be a substantial unplanned cost. like i said, we live in louisiana and figured the weather here and in florida would be approximately the same... but DH pointed out that we dont hang out outside in the winter too much so saying what we have would be sufficient is true, if we werent gonna be outside ... thoughts? end of febr / beg of march ... do we sink $400 into coats or take what we got and hope for the best????
:earboy2:

I wouldn't spend $400 on coats. We live in Ohio and didn't bring our winter jackets. We are usually fine with sweatshirts. We had one cold day where I would have loved to have my winter coat but we powered through. It will more than likely be unnecessary if you have layers on.

If you wanted a coat Id get a cheaper, plain winter coat. No need for the fancy ones at all since you won't use them at home.

Seeing the previous post about packing winter coats, got me wondering if you all have links to great Disney World packing lists -especially for winter. I saw one on the Disney Diva website that seemed like a good one, but as this is my first trip the more information I can gather the better! :)

WDW prep school has a downloadable "ultimate" packing list ... We use it as a jumping off place & download it in Word to edit
