Official Dopey 2017 Thread

btw, anybody got a good 3-week training plan I could use? Want to train for this Dopey thing before time runs out.

Week 1 - Order treadmill online, track the package online everyday in preparation for working out. Clear out the space for the treadmill which is good cardio work.

Week 2 - You will need to spend the majority of this week working on your costumes, trying on costumes by taking trips to Wal-Mart fully dressed up, checking to see if waivers are available, and printing out waivers. Work on getting a good TV installed in front of the treadmill but this is Christmas week so you really need to focus on presents and relaxing over the holidays.

Week 3 - TAPER WEEK!!! Buy new shoes for the races and with all the travelling to get to WDW that is more than enough of a workout before the races.

You got this.

As usual, I'm doing most of my runs on the treadmill. I know it's not ideal, but it's what allows me to get my mileage in. I also like trying to convince myself that running in warm temperatures and on an incline while indoors will help me in the long run.

Hence the iPad. It covers the screen so no little numbers are visible. :)

iPads can be moved too easily and then the numbers are there.

I did 2.5 miles today and have 5 tomorrow (both treadmill runs before work). On the day of my scheduled 10-miler, the forecast is high of 15, low of 7 with 20MPH winds and 50% chance of snow (less than 1 inch of accumulations). I think this wouldn't be so bad except for the WIND!! :faint: I guess worst-case scenario I would do the whole thing on the treadmill, but maybe I can break it up - half outside, half inside? :scratchin

The day of my 20-miler looks better with a high of 23, low of 21 and 12 MPH winds...10% chance of snow. :confused3 I guess I'd rather have the more tolerable forecast on the 20-mile day. Here's hoping the sidewalks will be somewhat clear!

Good luck this week, everyone. We are so close!!

That sounds like great weather for your 20 miler. The forecast for the day mine is scheduled is high of -3 low of -12 with an 8mph wind. I'm not sure I have enough layers to make that do able.

If it's a warm weekend, I'm sure it'll help.

Yeah, compared to yours...not bad at all! As long as the sidewalks aren't icy I think I might be okay!

Yeah, I can't even imagine running in that! :scared1: Though I did used to ski in it, which probably isn't that much different. Anyway, FWIW I sometimes break up my summer runs half indoor/half outside to deal with summer heat, so I can see that working for winter cold, too!

I always go with a towel or a shirt over the treadmill screen but it still feels like 1 outside mile equals 2 treadmill miles.

Those can be moved just as easily. That's why I avoid treadmills at all costs. I'll take my forecast temp of 4 degrees and windchill of -10 this afternoon over a treadmill.

I was planning to do my last longish run Christmas weekend. But now we are going to Michigan for that weekend - 20s with possible snow. :faint: I will do what I can but this southern girl don't like that forecast, lol!!!

Headed north for Christmas week as well, hoping for (relatively) decent weather to get the runs in.

Most of my runs are treadmill the last month or two also. It's the only way I can get them in it seems with the kids and my husbands work schedule these days. It's awful but I feel a lot better when I remind myself how much "easier" it will be at disney! Entertainment and people all around. Much better than whatever pops into my head while watching Netflix lol.

Not yet. The AP holders will start getting the new bands by the end of this month. They start rolling out to the rest in the new year.

Me too. Our new bands for our AP renewal this month are the old ones, and I was looking forward to seeing the new ones.

Me too! My Magicband situation is a mess. I got 4 boxes in the last couple days. One is three bands for a reservation I cancelled months ago (oops). Two others for a reservation where I'm solo before everyone else shows up and one for my AP renewal. Anyone know if they are automatically rolling the new bands out to AP or if we will need to go in and request or wait until we renew again?

Dopey bibs are blue and purple this year!

Knowing this means it is getting so close! Love the colors announcement.

I'm 100% sure but I think they are rolling them out to new AP holders first. I haven't heard any reports of anyone getting them yet.

Just got back from my run. I am planning to stick with the outdoors. It was about 15 degrees and the windchill was not fun but I survived. A bit worried about Thursday's run with a reported high of 0! Thank goodness it is also my 5K day of the Dopey simulation and not the marathon day! Supposed to "warm up" into the low 20's this weekend here. On an exciting note our bands arrived today! Had to immediately hide them as the trip is going to be a surprise for our girls. So I am frozen, but excited!

Extended weather forecast has above average temperatures and slight rain the morning of the marathon... Since they have no idea what's happening TOMORROW, I'll refrain from fretting about it just yet. However, I was really hoping for average temps.

Everyone's fueling/recovery plans and advice was terrific! I'm glad I found the disboards and all of you earlier this year to help prepare for this.

Last 4-day simulation is next week, and I am so thankful to have only one more of these super long runs left. It's just such a long time being out there! But... I know now that I can do it. I had more nervousness about this thing 2 months ago. Now, I'm getting really excited and can't wait!

ANOTHER QUESTION FOR VETERANS: More specifically, for folks who have stayed at a non-Disney resort: How soon should we head out the door each morning? We're at Bonnet Creek, which is close to Epcot, but I know the crowds will be a lot bigger than Wine & Dine (we could have slept an extra hour that weekend, very light). Thanks!

I drove in every morning this year (and plan to do the same) and always made sure I was pulling in to the parking lot at Epcot 30 minutes before the first corral (I was not in the first corral) went off. No problems.

The only race I bag-dropped for was the Marathon and even then, we stood around in our corrals for 45 minutes before we started moving and it sucked.
