Official Dopey 2017 Thread

At least you were able to get your run in yesterday, despite the 6 inches. My run didn't happen, because 16+ miles of my 18 would have been on uncleared paths/sidewalks or the side of poorly plowed, high speed roads.
I ran into this issue as well this weekend - I had 14 planned and ended up calling it at 2. :headache: Our sidewalks had icy patches and I could have gone in the street, but I HATE dodging cars and I know that the sides of our streets are sloped, so it would kill my IT band. Hoping I can get my longer runs in this weekend. :guilty:

How did training go for everyone this weekend?
I had a cut-back this weekend of 12 miles... it was chilly (for FL - feels like of 44) and my knees were not happy about that! Ironically, I'm mildly freaking out at the forecast for my final 4-day sim this coming weekend: looking at an overnight "low" of 70 and high of 83 for my 22-miler. Heat stress and the long recovery that comes with it is my nemesis, so I may shorten that one to avoid overheating.

That's tough! Hopefully you can squeeze in as close to the amount you want as possible. Sounds like the weather is causing issues for a lot of us in our final weeks of Dopey training!

Yeah I tried to make the shift from sidewalk and paths to the street as I often run on the shoulder, but even that was too dicey to run on, especially since the speed limit is 45-55 on most of the roads I run along.

I may use that as the code word from now on, when referring to treadmills, although i like them myself.
It describes my 20-year-old treadmill perfectly, lol! I'm just waiting for the thing to die so I can stop torturing myself on it, but I fear it may live forever... (I finally got a membership at my local rec center this summer to use its nice, new treadmills - WHAT a difference! Alas, no Netflix at the rec center, though, only basic cable.)

So am I. With the amount of salt and snow on the ground I am not thrilled with the idea but I'd rather not slip or something.
Seriously...when I was heading to the expo in 2012 or 2013 (forget which year) the lady on the bus next to me told me that she was signed up for the marathon the previous year and then on New Year's Eve* she slipped on ice and fell, and broke her arm - no marathon. I am risking nothing.

*I assume she was sober......

I'm actually seriously considering the treadmill this weekend...

Get an iPad loaded with movies and it's tolerable. Not as enjoyable as running outside (even outside in a parking lot), but it's tolerable.

I thought that they would be sending the new magic bands.

Me too. Our new bands for our AP renewal this month are the old ones, and I was looking forward to seeing the new ones.

Treadmills are never tolerable. That little number with the miles goes up so slowly. I'm pretty sure it takes 10x longer to go the same distance.

Hence the iPad. It covers the screen so no little numbers are visible. :)

At this point I'm starting to just accept that I'll be doing at least some of my 10-/20-mile runs on the treadmill. We actually have a treadmill at home so I have a TV/Netflix set-up...could be worse!

Yeah, I'll be needing a post-it note or something to cover the numbers!

I did 2.5 miles today and have 5 tomorrow (both treadmill runs before work). On the day of my scheduled 10-miler, the forecast is high of 15, low of 7 with 20MPH winds and 50% chance of snow (less than 1 inch of accumulations). I think this wouldn't be so bad except for the WIND!! :faint: I guess worst-case scenario I would do the whole thing on the treadmill, but maybe I can break it up - half outside, half inside? :scratchin

The day of my 20-miler looks better with a high of 23, low of 21 and 12 MPH winds...10% chance of snow. :confused3 I guess I'd rather have the more tolerable forecast on the 20-mile day. Here's hoping the sidewalks will be somewhat clear!

Good luck this week, everyone. We are so close!!
