Official Dopey 2017 Thread

Can't eat, really? Wow, that's the first time I've heard that! I'm typically about ready to down a steak by mile 22. :-) Of course, for those super hot years, I suppose I may have had that not hungry state....but typically only lasts till I hit the bus and the bloodflow starts to get moving back to parts other than the legs.
Yep - I have been running for a long time and no longer get hungry when I run. I also run fasting. That works against me after a really long run since I need to eat and I really have to force myself.

On a more positive note, it helps me maintain a healthy weight.

My parent's are on friendly terms with one of the chef's at Citricos and are working with him to create a custom tasting menu for Monday night. They've done a couple when the chef worked at The Wave and they've always been really good. They usually plan it with wine pairings too, so plenty of drinking to be had.
This sounds ...awesome....

I have an ADR for O'Hana for Sunday evening that I will be going to with family or solo; still trying to talk my wife into the extra expense of coming with me. I went solo last year and had a really great time, but hoping to drag along the family this year. We all love O'Hana and it seems a great "recovery-refuelling" after Dopey!
Definitely a good pick. We have gone there before the 10k the past couple of years and have an ADR to do the same for 2017. Becoming a creature of habit with this Dopey thing. Although, there is something to be said for that. Go with what you know when running 4 days in a row. Rhyme not intended..

It is hot - I mean HOT! :scared:

Lost 6 pounds of water weight on my 14 mile run today. Lost 3 pounds on my 7 miler yesterday and did not drink enough to be fully hydrated today. Boy did I feel it in my run. But I finished - barely. :snail:

I will be spending the entire day trying to re-hydrate from these two runs. :drinking1
I wimped out this past weekend and did a half on the treadmill. Not that I can't do the heat...just wimped out. got out Sunday for a 60 mile bike ride though, so I suppose I redeemed myself. 90 degree breeze on the bike is still better than no breeze on the run! Stay thirsty and hydrated my friends!

Anyone else experience that state of what we like to call "Dopey Delirium" after about day 3 of this thing? I warned my family about this when they came down this year, but it still was pretty hilarious when I start to embody "Dopey" and get silly at just about anything. You'd think this was due to sleep deprivation, but the last two years I have been getting a good quality 6 hours of sleep each night (first year was pretty bad). It's like a runners high to the extreme...

Not sure what we are doing to celebrate but I know I will be out and about walking the parks to keep moving and celebrate with fellow marathon weekend participants Love marathon weekend!

I'm with you - it usually takes me a decent amount of time before I'm hungry after I run.

Now, that doesn't mean that I'm not in the mood for a beer or a cocktail after a long run ...

I first noticed a different kind of hungry after my first half. Even by the time we reached lunch, I wasn't 'stomach hungry' but I could tell I needed fuel, and badly. By the time we made it to the pizza joint under Space Mountain, DW and I were in no position to make rational choices about portion size, but the hunger still never came form the gut (like right now), but from all my individual cells crying out.

Best darned pizza slices ever. And breadsticks.

Beer *and* a cocktail is what you meant to write, right?

I just got back from a week in Hilton Head and I am ready to get back on track! To say my training has been lacking would be an understatement. I drove by a few southern WI towns on our way back that were familiar from my Dopey friends! We're getting closer!!

I'm in a dilemma. I am currently booked as a solo at French Quarter for Tuesday-Thursday until the rest of our party shows up as I'm doing Dopey solo. We then have a room at French Quarter with myself, my husband and his brother. We travel this way a lot and it works for us but he is thinking of bringing a friend and would need a different room. At this point they would probably stay in a room and he would stay on ours as there aren't any Standard available for the weekend anymore and I don't want to lose it. Another option, splurge for me and DH and stay at Beach Club or Yacht club. We haven't stayed there before and it would be nice to be close to Epcot and somewhere he could easily watch me but I'm having a hard time swallowing the double price tag. What to do - what to do.

I hope things are gearing up in training for everyone else and everyone is staying healthy!

just checking out the thread. I was supposed to run the Marine Corps Marathon in October, but my work travel got in the way. Was so excited to "just" do a marathon for the first time. Decided this weekend that if I am not running MCM, might as well finally do Dopey! So all signed up and ready to go. Cant wait for January!!!!!

Looks like you might have been one of the last Dopey registrants. Congrats and good luck with your training as well as in January!

Interesting. I wonder why it would close and then open back up. Maybe they took some places back from TAs?

It certainly appears that way ... TA friend's agency had double-digit Dopey bibs over the weekend and now are sold out.

I find this all very interesting. RunDisney goes from selling out all of their races on a regular basis to not selling out most of them and keeps getting rid of on course entertainment deferrals and such. Do they not see a correlation here? Then you have Disney parks that are seeing lower attendance and RunDisney is one of those things to keep attendance up. Are executives just blind or am I missing something?

Personally, the on-course entertainment is more a distraction for me than a requirement. I almost prefer the races at Disneyland because, overall, I like the weekends better, I like the courses better and they're just easier for a participant.

Also, the deferral thing doesn't bother me either. Major races (NYC, Chicago, etc.) don't offer anything in the way of deferrals. Can't make it? You're out the race fee. Maybe you get a guaranteed spot the next year, but you still have to pay for it again. I lost over $200 for the NYC Half this year when I got hurt. I have a guaranteed spot for next year - if I fundraise again, which I won't. So, lesson learned.

I think that RD painted themselves into a corner with TA's for WDW races by now requiring a ticket purchase and minimum two-night stay at a hotel to purchase a bib through a TA.

One of the BIGGEST RunDisney TAs (Get Sports) decided that they would no longer sell races at WDW in 2016 because it just didn't make business sense to them to do so. Another major TA that I've purchased through before opted to not take an allotment of Princess bibs because they've had to fire-sale every race.

Plus, I think pricing has driven them into a pretty hard market correction. Registration has reverted to previous form, but it's for different reasons. I'm glad the 5Ks now have metal medals, but I'm not paying the asking price now for what is offered (small medal, unisex shirt). On top of that, the market is over-saturated with races. I don't think there needs to be two Star Wars weekends. I like Tink Weekend, but I don't think you need two women-centric race weekends either. And I think the dumbest move they made was taking their one unique race and tossing it aside for the ultimate money-grab: the two-race challenge.

A lot of participants these days are one-and-done as well. Check it off the bucket list and move on to the next fun RunCation (Rock n Roll Race, SeaWheeze, Napa-To-Sonoma, Surf City, Bos/Chicago/NYC, etc.).

I'm not worried about races selling out. If I start seeing a drop off in the amenities that I feel my money is paying for (like medals start becoming smaller and poor in construction), or race shirts are a drop-off in quality, or on-course support takes a significant drop in quality. That's when I will stop altogether. I'm already scaling back significantly in 2017.

I get what your saying but I think on course entertainment for a Disney race is what a lot of people want. A decrease in that turns people away.

While true a lot of races still offer an insurance policy, deferral, or transfer. I'm also positive that most races don't cost nearly as much as Disney races do which makes just throwing that money away harder.

Requiring TAs to sell rooms makes sense though. Why wouldn't Disney make a minimum stay for TAs?

I can see not needing two star wars but the two female races are different themes and on different Coasts. That makes sense to me.

I one and done being part of the issue but they are always part of the equation. I see more and more RunDisney veterans calling it quits. Even RunDisney celebrity types who run all the races are starting to tone it down and only run a few of them.

I really think the big problem people are paying attention to is paying more for less.
