So excited - just finalized my cake plans with YC/BC Private Dining.

For my 30th birthday cake I am getting an 8" chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling and vanilla buttercream on the outside. It will then be covered with blue fondant. The cake will be themed around The Gran Fiesta boat ride at Epcot with hand piped fireworks and balloons (like in the grand finale of the ride). It will be topped with a white chocolate fully hand-painted Donald. Quoted price is $230 (we are having it delivered to our room). Almost half of the price is from the painting of Donald, but I couldn't resist for a birthday milestone!

For our 6th wedding anniversary cake we are getting an 8" white cake with vanilla buttercream filling and vanilla buttercream on the outside. It will be covered in red fondant. On the sides, white hearts of various sizes will be piped on. On the top we will have a Mickey and Minnie white chocolate topper with gold accents surrounded by red and white roses (our wedding flowers). This cake was quoted at $95 and we are also having it delivered to the room.

I plan to share photos when we get back!

I take it you won't be staying at a Disney resort? Cuz getting the cake delivered to your room would be the easiest way to do this.

I wouldn't write off Be Our Guest just because it's counter service at lunch. They still have the facilities to keep the custom cakes people order for dinner there, so I don't see why you couldn't pick one up at lunch. I'd definitely call the MK cake line and try to get a real person to talk to about this. (Or email - all this info is in Post #2).

We are staying at POR for that portion of the trip. The GF and CR bakeries seem to make the style of cake I want, more so than the Boardwalk Bakery. That's why I didn't opt for room delivery. I emailed the MK cake line and was told they can only deliver to BoG for dinner. I was told no problem for the Plaza, of course. I'll just have to figure out the timing of everything. I know we are trying to fit too much into one day, but our only other MK time is MNSSHP. I have an ADR for Kona and one for Afternoon Tea, but DD wants me to cancel them. We sort of decided to stay away from resort dinners this trip because of the transportation time involved. We normally run ourselves ragged, but this time we were trying for a more relaxing trip LOL. It's just the cake that's throwing me for a loop.

How far in advance should I plan on ordering one of these cakes? I'd love to get one for my daughter's birthday. There are only 3 of us going though so I'm in debate because of wasting so much cake.... She would absolutely love something snow white themed. She's also not a big icing fan, but loves chocolate and loves fruit so I'm wondering if several restaurants would do something like this (but in Snow White)

Chef Brian is awesome he did this for me last year for a surprise for hubby.

We'll be eating at Coral Reef for dinner the day of her birthday, so I would prefer that, but would I get better options if I had the special surprise on our first day when we have dinner at O'hana's?

I am debating ordering a 2 tier mini cake for DS and I on our upcoming trip but I'm not sure where to have it. At this point our ADRs are lunch at Sci Fi, lunch at Le Cellier, dinner at Rainforest Cafe and a late (10:55) breakfast at Ohanas.

I think from that list my only options would be Le Cellier and Ohanas, correct? Where do the cakes come from for those restaurants? I almost want to sneak in another ADR but at this point it's limited anyhow.

There is no celebration, but because of DS's multiple food allergies most of the time we go to the TS restaurants there are no desserts he can have. So I thought it would be nice to have a cake ordered so we know there would be at least one day he can eat dessert.

Ohanas would come from the GF. With allergies though depending on what they are you might do better ordering from baby cakes in DTD

I called the Contemporary number this morning and was given an email address and told that Donald Joyner (sounds like may not be exact spelling) would probably be answering. I mentioned I had heard of pastry chef Brian and was told that "he's moved to a different building" and is no longer doing their cakes.

I'm a bit bummed.

I've been in contact with Donald Joyner for about a week now. He's creating my DS's bday cake for TOMORROW :cool1:

It's a chocolate cake, with milk chocolate mousse fondant cake in the them of PLANES. We're having dinner at Chef Mickey's tomorrow and that's where we'll have our cake. I'll let you know :)

Just got off the phone with Pat from the GF. They were incredibly limited in what they could do for cakes. My DS wanted a Monsters U cake. He wanted lemon cake with lemon mousse. They would only do a chocolate or vanilla cake. I wanted lemon filling and she put me on hold and came back to say that they can put lemon curd in between the layers.

We are getting an 8 inch vanilla cake with lemon curd, buttercream icing in the Monsters U theme. We are eating at 'Ohana's on Sept 1, that's where it's getting delivered. Cost was $77 and I had to pay when I ordered.

It does seem like the Deluxe resorts have more access to non-cake things like truffles and chocolate-covered strawberries, but you could contact the cake number for Epcot and just see if they had something similar they could deliver to Coral Reef.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know that I am now on a new assignment within the Contemporary Bakery. The cake team has just as much talent though and I will still be there to assist them if needed but your in good hands. Thanks for giving me all your fun and unique ideas to work on the last 5 years!

You made a cake for my parents' 40th anniversary in March, and they were so thrilled with it! Thank you so much for the magic you've passed along to our families!

I will look forward to working with the new team for a cake at Liberty Tree Tavern in October :) Good luck with your new assignment!

Brian,

You made my DS CARS cake 2 years ago as well as our 10th Anniversary cake. Sheer perfection - you are incredibly talented. Good luck in your new assignment!!!

Donald Joyner has been a pleasure to work with. He is very prompt with his emails and has given incredible advice. I will for sure post pics of both cakes we have ordered.

This time tomorrow, I'll be at POFQ :banana::cool1::cool1::banana::banana:

Brian was the one who did my sons birthday cake in 2010 for his birthday dinner (on his actual birthday) at Chef Mickey's. It was the best part of our entire experience that evening.

Dear Chef,

Just wanted to wish you all the best in your new assignment. You and the rest of the cake team have made some absolutely wonderful cakes for my children. Your cakes will always be a bright spot for us in those trip memories. :goodvibes

Bummer! Brian made our cake two weeks ago! Hope Donald is as much a pleasure to work with as Brian was!

i have been exchanging emails with donald (joiner) and hes been really prompt and really doing his best to work with me.
My husbands favorite movie is the black hole but due to those pesky licensing issues he wouldnt be able to use VINCENT or anything specifically black hole. He did work with me and give me a few ideas but in the end i am going to go a WALL-E route. I will be getting this cake september 22nd so I will post pictures of my cake from Donald. Im sure it will be amazing!:thumbsup2
