I have no experience with AKL, but I can tell you my cake at YC was $185 and they originally quoted me closer to $275. This was for a cake like one someone had paid much much less for at the Contemporary.

I'm thinking about ordering a fancy cake I suppose from the Boardwalk Bakery, we will be having dinner at Flying Fish. I would love to hear people's feedback, if you ordered from them were you pleased or disappointed. I'm nervous about spending a lot of money on a cake and not being happy with it. Thanks

See below:

About 7 days before our (pre)anniversary trip last weekend, I decided to order a mini 2-tier replica of our wedding cake to be delivered to our room at BoardWalk Inn. I called on a Saturday afternoon and got right through to BoardWalk Bakery pastry chef Yoly, who gave me an email address where I sent pictures of our original cake for her reference. After we'd worked out the details, she had me phone private dining to place my order.

The cake was waiting for us when we got back to the room that night (we'd asked for the last delivery time, 8:45pm), and they had very thoughtfully placed it in the fridge for us.

It turned out fabulously! Not only was it adorable to look at, it was THE best-tasting cake I've ever had at Walt Disney World. I think maybe the mini cakes have a better frosting-to-cake ratio. It was covered in buttercream, with fondant accents to replicate those on our Disney wedding cake.

Where: BoardWalk Bakery - 407-939-2393

When: 1/20/12 (ordered 7 days in advance)

What: 2-tier mini cake

Flavors: Red velvet with cream cheese filling and vanilla buttercream frosting

Price: $35 +tax

I've been reading through posts in this thread about AKL's cakes, and it seems they're a little hit or miss. Has anyone ordered recently? I'm going in June for my birthday, and was looking forward to my first spectacular Disney cake, wanted to have it in my room with family and friends.

I also have a question about how custom they can get; I love AK and AKL, and put together a cake design, but I don't know what the 'limits' are. Will they work off your own ideas?

Any help would be appreciated! ;)

Lurkyloo, I LOVE your mini wedding cake!! :lovestruc I agree, our mini wedding cake was so moist and delicious.

It is extremely frustrating, though, that there is no consistency with Disney cake ordering (which I guess there really isn't anything consistent with Disney...). A few months ago, when I ordered a mini wedding cake and pressed for flavor options other than chocolate/chocolate and vanilla/vanilla, I was told no way. I wish there were an online ordering system or that it didn't just depend on who you talk to or if they're willing to be flexible that day. Anyways, this is just a vent.

Ok... so should I be concerned?

I called Pat at the GF for a custom cake for Ohana for Saturday. I am surprising my mom by taking her on the Disney Dream and wanted to tell her with a cake! I wanted a 6" cake with a simple white chocolate stand up type image of the Dream. You know... the ones that aren't flush on the cake but stand up off the cake? Well... she told me they don't do the ones that are flat on the cake so that wouldn't be an issue. But then... she only quoted me $51. :confused3 I expected it to be at least $75? Should I be concerned that I won't get the pretty cake I am hoping for? I tried over and over to make sure she understood and she seemed to...but the price scares me. THoughts?

I don't know about the cake, but wanted to say, "You're an awesome daughter." It's so nice to see someone on here trying to do something nice for their parent, instead of coming here to complain about them. :)

I agree. I realize that they have a lot of different bakeries on property and it's hard to coordinate anything, but at the very least they could have those basic options that they do offer everywhere (the Mickey head cake, the 6-, 8-, and 10-inch chocolate or vanilla cakes) listed on a website somewhere with pictures. I also don't understand why they are so inconsistent with flavor choices. It really does seem to be at the whim of the pastry chef. My advice is to just tell them you had a Disney wedding and are trying to re-create your cake—that seems to be the magic phrase that gets them interested.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. That's about what they've historically charged for simple buttercream cake, and if the only decor is a screen print on white chocolate, it sounds right on par. :thumbsup2

We had a cake made by the GF for DD's birthday. It was an 8" with a white chocolate screen print and it was $60 something. Maybe different bakeries charge different amounts for the printing on chocolate?

I just called the Boardwalk bakery and ordered DH a birthday cake to be delivered to our room. 10" lemon with lemon butter cream inside and out. Quote was $45 plus tax. I had wanted an image screen printed on white chocolate but she said it would be an extra $35. I couldn't justify that much. Oh well, DH will still be surprised. I was so happy they were willing to do lemon as I hadn't seen it before, especially the lemon butter cream. My DH is SO picky. He won't eat custard or mousse which were the first two options she offered me. She was so accommodating about the lemon butter cream; said it would be easy. Dh's birthday is 2/9, I'll be sure to post pictures when I get back.

This was my 21st Birthday cake ordered by my boyfriend (March 2011). I told him what I was looking for in a cake and let him do all the planning. He did a wonderful job! :lovestruc I believe it was a yellow cake with butter cream filling and it was good. He ordered it from Contemporary and they brought it over to the Whispering Canyon Cafe where we were having dinner. I have no idea what the cost is, he still will not tell me.....He just will say "It wasnt Cheap!". :rotfl:

Have searched through posts over and over and cannot find if anyone has had a cake for 2 delivered to the all star resorts?

I apologize it this has been answered before. I've looked through the posts but may have missed it, but I was wondering if you are allowed to bring an outside cake into a Disney restaurant? Either from Boardwalk Bakery or Publix? We will be arriving on my son's 4th birthday and want to do something special, but I think ordering a custom cake would be to stressful for control-freak me. I'd rather order a Mickey Head cake from Boardwalk or a Cars cake from Publix so I would know exactly what I was going to get.
What about bringing a cake into T-Rex?
I apologize it this isn't the correct place to post this question.
Thanks for your help!

Can I have a cake delivered to Raglan Road? DH's birthday ADR is there and not sure if I can order a cake there or just get a dessert there and then have a cake sent to our room. :cake:

He likes Goofy. :goofy: A chocolate goofy cake from my boys would be cute.

I'm wondering the same thing. I was going to see about having a small cake delivered to our Tea at the GF on DD's birthday, but now I'm thinking we may not do the tea so I thought of just having one delivered to our room at AKV.

Here's the cake....

And here's the story...

I was celebrating my 40th this weekend with my BFF at Boardwalk. My sister decided to call and order a cake to surprise me at our dinner on Saturday night. She knew we had an ADR at Kouzinna.

So, she calls me yesterday morning to wish me a happy birthday and ask if I liked the cake. I say "Cake? Oh boy, I think we have a problem!" She tells me about ordering the cake and she's a bit upset that I didn't get it.

I got her call at 10am or so at AK, and we are leaving via ME at 2:30! So, I head back to the Boardwalk to see if I can find out what happened to the cake. I recount my story to the two CM's at the bakery counter, and then they go get a manager. He looks up the info and says that they had the order but that there was no delivery time listed.

Now, I realize that my sister was not able to give them a time because she did not know when our reservation was, but she says that she gave them her phone number and was told that she would get a call if there was a problem with the order.

Anyway, there was a happy ending to the story, because they discovered that my cake was actually made (or decorated, really) and so they gave it to me. We had a few pieces before we left, and I carried the rest of it home on the plane!

And we really have stop meeting like this Lynn

"Sheesh, this is the 35th time this year this lady has wanted her wedding cake re-created..." :teeth:

To the best of my knowledge, you can bring an outside cake into a restaurant at Disney World. However, they are unable to store it for you (i.e. hide it or hold it in the back until the end of the meal) due to food/health laws/regulations.

Also, from the stories I've read around the boards of people doing this, it's hit or miss in how involved your server or restaurant will be. Once or twice I've read of a server bringing out extra plates, a cake knife, and/or candles and others have to be begged to just bring some extra plates.
