Well....I finally did it and pulled the trigger on ordering a cake for my DS's 18th birthday. I've been torn about what to do, and have scoured this thread. We're eating at Jiko the night of his birthday, and I really wanted to have the cake at the restaurant, but after seeing the pictures of the cakes coming out of the Contemporary bakery, I really wanted to order from them.

I was also torn about wanting it early in the week that we are there so that DS will have plenty of time to get the cake eaten before we leave to come home and we're not eating at the CR until later in the week.

I finally decided to order the cake and have it delievered to our room our first night there. I went with a Mad Hatter style and an Alice in Wonderland theme. DS is going to be an English major and Alice is one of his favorite books, so I think he'll like the theme of the cake a lot.

The person I talked to at the CR (Gary) was great and very helpful, and took his time talking with me about the order. He was slightly surprised by the cost of the cake when he looked it up....but....thanks to you guys....I was not surprised. LOL!

My DS and DIL left this morning for their 1st anniversary trip to WDW. They will be dining at Cali Grill on their actual anniversary. Is it possible to have a specialty cake ordered and served to them at the Cali Grill? Has anyone done this? What is the cost...it's just the 2 of them so nothing too big.

I called Grand Floridian Private Dining to order the "Coral & Shells" mini cake listed on Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings' cake pricing sheet at $22.

There is no cake pricing sheet, other than the order forms used by the bakeries. The one I have is for Disney weddings, so it only helps if you're ordering a multi-tier fancy cake in one of the standard wedding cake designs.

Thanks for the reply lurkyloo! I'm hoping to get a mini wedding cake at Citricos for my upcoming trip, but I wanted something a little more unique looking than the standard cakes. Is it just me or does anyone else think Disney should make a website for their custom cakes?

While I'm posting, I thought I'd put up a pic of the Cinderella Slipper dessert I had last year. I requested as much dark chocolate as possible (I'm not a fan of white/milk chocolate) and it turned out perfectly! If I remember correctly, the cost for the dessert was about $20 added to our check.

I agree—at the very least Disney could put up a gallery of past cake designs, even if they won't standardize designs and prices beyond what they've done for Disney weddings. I think they just don't want to lock themselves into specific prices for fancy cakes and instead want to have each bakery do custom quotes. Plus, it's a vary small segment of guests who want elaborate cakes—most seem to be happy with the standard podium cakes.

Well that is awesome news! Do you recall which bakery made your cake? I have this fear of getting my hopes up just to find out it's only offered at a different bakery.

The Boardwalk Bakery made MIL's birthday cake. It was beautiful and delicious. Pretty much, identical to the photo below.

I emailed Brian at the Contemporary today, asking him if he would be able to do a cake for us, and have it delivered to our dinner at Sanaa.
I left another message with the pastry chef at AKL over 2 weeks ago, and once again, she has never called me back. I'm really hoping Brian will be able to do it, because at this point, I'm going to have to cancle this custom cake if my only choice is to have it done by Chef Trish.

I am ready to order a cake for delivery at the California Grill. I know I will need to email Chef Brian. I know I want a 6 inch fondant covered cake in some sort of Alice in Wonderland theme. I am not really sure what to ask for. I would really like Alice under a tree reading a book. (and if that book was actually a red Kindle it would be perfect) Do I just tell them exactly that and hope for the best or do I ask for certain specific types of things? Any advice?

Just returned last week from a fabulous holiday in WDW. Thanks to Lurkyloo and all the others here for all of their invaluable wisdom of the Disney cake world!

I ordered the Cinderella Slipper Cake for DGD 6th birthday breakfast at CRT. Ordering it was a bit of a nightmare, took three phone calls. The CM was new and didn't know what the slipper cake was and kept trying to order a 6" or an 8" cake. So, I wasn't surprised when we were enjoying our breakfast the waiter came out as he was quite confused, and asked if we had wanted 5 slipper cakes for the three of us!?! Even the chef came out to check this out! Well, it was one Cinderella Slipper Cake. And, my DGD thought it was just the best thing she ever ate!

And, then she had a 6" yellow cake with custard and strawberries. Buttercream icing with a tinkerbell theme. I left the design up to Pat, who was great to deal with at the GF. It was 56.00 and was yummy! Lots of compliments.

We will be celebrating, DGS 2nd birthday in October and DDIL's birthday is the following week. but, MIL's is 2 weeks before.. I think, I need to order 3 cakes!!

We celebrated MIL's at Disney last year, and she THROUGHLY loved the attention. I want DDIL to feel special..and of course, the baby is a must. Oh dear, I think, I'm stuck!

Has anyone ordered a cake from Teppen Edo before? I was told they do their own cakes since they are not owned by Disney. I have one ordered for a birthday dinner coming up and Im a little worried. They are supposed to be doing something with the country bear jamboree on it for my son.

All the cakes for the non-Disney-owned restaurants in World Showcase come from the same outside vendor and look something like this (if they're chocolatate!):

Not being a fan of the whipped cream-covered cakes made by the Epcot bakery for the Disney-owned restaurants, I'd actually prefer to have one of these outside-vendor cakes. If they're customizing it with Country Bears for you, it's probably going to be a screen print.

Well, honestly, while I might have called this the Cinderella Slipper Cake, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has named this incorrectly. This CM was so unsure of everything, that it was only after the third call did the CM know exactly what I wanted. The first CM was so unsure of the order, the resturant (CRT?), the whole process, I told her I would just call back. Actually, the third call was a CM calling me to confirm and place the order, as the other two CM (I think I got the same CM the first two calls) did not complete the order.

And, funny thing is at CRT they had me down for 5 Slipper Desserts! So, no, I think all of the confusion was more than just calling it the Cinderella Slipper Cake. But, it all ended well, so alls well that ends well!
