Lurkyloo-

I'm hoping that you may have an answer to this...

We are staying at the cabins. Would it be possible to have a cake delivered to the cabin? I reviewed the list of locations but did not see Fort Wilderness Cabins on it.

I appreciate your help! :)

Oh good! I'd forgotten I put it on the list and was kinda worried for a moment there! :teeth:

Would like to order the slipper cake for dd(5) at 1900 PF(D)! But are wondering what would be good to order for ds (14)?:confused3 Also, how to order??:confused3 TIA!

I don't think this would be very difficult. From the cakes I've seen, they clearly have some people on site that can do sugar flowers (made out of gumpaste). Most sugar flowers are made around a wire, so the wire could be used to form the flower stem.

Oh thanks! I appreciate the response. I was thinkin' maybe my question got lost in the mix there. LOL! I'm going to dig out a few old pics of my wedding cake & get them scanned in....you know...since it was soooooo long ago we didn't have digital cameras then. :lmao: Yay for 18 years! Just 1 more and I will officially have been married 1/2 of my life! :cheer2::rotfl:

Hi there

I'd like to order a cake for August 29th - we arrive in Orlando on August 11th. Do you think I would be OK going to the Poly and ordering it there, or does it have to be ordered on the 'phone? Its for a dinner at Ohana's.

Also - does anyone know if the buttercream on the cakes contain raw eggs? In America you seem to make buttercream differently to us English folk! And I need to check as I'm pregnant and unable to eat raw eggs!

Thanks!

I wish I could help you. I also ordered the slipper for DD for $15 & would love something in that price range for DS (16). Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions...

DD's 3rd Bday is Nov 2. Our plan is to sleep in & do Epcot WS in the late afternoon & evening. We have dinner reservations at Akershush. I thought I would have her cake there, but then I think I read somewhere that you can't have specialty cakes at WS restaurants. So maybe I should just have them deliver it to our room that morning :confused3 We are staying at POFQ, if that makes any difference. I may change the plan all together because I just realized this is evening EMH & Epcot may be really busy that day

DD is obsessesed with Bambi (right now, this could change :rotfl:). I skimmed through most of this thread & didn't see any Bambi themes. Will they do Bambi?

Just trying to get ideas right now. I know I can't order until the middle of October.

There is no physical location where you can order cakes at the Polynesian—you have to call. Can you call from your Disney resort room? If the operator connects you, it's free! They only need 48 hours' notice for basic cakes. I'd given them a week for something fancy.

Buttercream frosting does not contain raw eggs. Meringue frosting contains raw egg whites, but Disney doesn't do cakes in meringue.

You can get cakes at WS restaurants, they just aren't very customizable—see this post for options: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=40915598#post2413710

The Yacht & Beach Club has recently started delivering fancy cakes to Epcot restaurants. Info for ordering through them is also in that post.

The only Disney characters they can't do are Winnie the Pooh & Friends.

Actually, a classic buttercream is made with raw egg whites. It is traditionally made by blending butter into a meringue. I doubt that Disney uses a classic buttercream but considering the OP is pregnant I would suggest she make a phone call to be sure. Better safe than sorry. :)

I didn't know that! Interesting! I didn't know this! I always make it with butter, shortening, powdered sugar, vanilla, & milk. To make it extra-yummy I use a Mexican vanilla my mother-in-law keeps me stocked-up on.

I did notice when we had cake from The Contemporary's bakery last November that the buttercream didn't taste as sweet & yummy. Now I'm really curious what their recipe ingredients are that makes it that way. Interesting....

Interesting! In all my years of baking with "classic" 1950s recipes, I've never found a recipe for buttercream that contained raw eggs. I'll have to dig one up and see if it tastes much different. :scratchin

Here is a wonderful recipe I use from bon appetit. It even has a slide show going through it step by step: http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/slideshows/2009/05/how_to_make_buttercream .

There are many classic buttercream recipes that call for egg yolks also. What most people consider "buttercream" is a quick and dirty version made with mostly either butter, shortening or a combo of both mixed with powdered sugar, milk or heavy cream to thin it out and flavoring. That is the frosting that most people today are familiar with. The higher end bakeries and restaurants still mostly use the "classic" versions which are not as sickly sweet as the quick and dirty versions. :)

I find this very interesting. Maybe the pastry chef at the Contemporary does use the classic version. It would certainly explain why it wasn't as sweet as you're used to with your version.

This is fascinating—and it explains why Susiecakes' frosting always tastes so much better than mine! :cutie: I'll check out that recipe...

We will be visiting in August and celbrating my daughter's 13th birthday. We will be doing the Birthday Celebration Cruise and leaving from Wilderness Lodge. Will we be able to order a custom cake from here or can we have one delivered? I didn't realize there were so many different options for cakes. Would love to get something special for her. Thanks.

I'm a baker and food blogger so I thought I'd clarify about frostings. :)

Buttercream doesn't have egg whites. Most cakes use this type of frosting. It's just shortening, butter, powdered sugar, salt, heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract.

Swiss meringue buttercream has egg whites. They're heated and then whipped. It has a softer whipped texture. One poster called it classic buttercream but I've never heard it referred to as classic buttercream. :)

From the cakes I've had from Disney, I can tell that the frosting used is just regular buttercream and doesn't have egg whites.
