Thanks so much for the help with the pictures! I really loved how the cake came out and wanted everyone to see it. I had posted the info earlier in the thread but couldn't get the pic to come up. Anyway, here it is again! I ordered the cake from the Boardwalk Bakery. Originally they told me the cake would be $45 for the 10-inch special cake. $30 additional for the fondant and $30 additional for the celebration theme. But when I picked up the cake I was charged 79.88 total so I feel like that was pretty good for what we got. All I asked for was marble cake, dark choc mousse filling and black and white fondant with red roses and a "40" theme. The cake looked really cool and was delicous. I picked it up at the boardwalk bakery and carried it into Epcot to Chef de France. It worked out wonderfully!

Oh I remember that now—great to hear you had such a good experience and it all worked out with brining the cake into the park and everything. :goodvibes

will be staying at the AKL for my daughters 21 st Birthday, she loves Toy story, but her 1st movie she ever saw was Lion King, and being we are staying at the AKL, thought it would be nice to Have a birthdat cake in the room for her , Anybody even have a lion king cake and how was it ? I saw someone wrote they got one, but it was horrible, just a cut out of simba and nala, was looking for something a little nicer, any suggestion:bday:

Another most definatly already asked question....sorry, but after 10 pages I am just more confused....

Ok so I read a few pages back that you can now get a 6inch customized cake, but it doesnt say that in the amazing cake guidelines most recently posted.

All I want is the smallest cake possible to celebrate both of my cousins' graduation on our June trip. Either at our CRT dinner or picked up at the food court for our room at POFQ. It will just be the 3 of us so I really don't want to waste cake. (I've had 2 8 inches before, and one got let in the resturant and the other was picked at in our SSR fridge for 3 nights then tossed)

Some sort of disney graduation themed decorations would be really nice, but just a simple "congratulations" written on top with some flowers or mickey sprinkles will also be just fine. I really don't want to spend more than $50 on a cake. This is just a little special surprise I want to kick off their trip.

Will they at least write "Congratulations Class of 2011" or something on top of the 6 inch podium cakes? The kids school colors are red and gold so mickey colored sprinkles would be very appropriate! Or can you preorder a 6 in and request colored flowers or something?

I think I would prefer to have the cake at the resort so I can save the leftovers, but what would the cake gurus say is my best option for the nicest and most afforable option?

Thanks!

The info on cake sizes is buried in each location's description—sorry! Basically, the only bakeries that will do a fancy custom a 6-inch cake are Contemporary, GF, and BoardWalk. So you're good to go because your CRT cake could be made by the Contemporary, and your POFQ cake would be made by BoardWalk Bakery.

Yes on both counts.

what is my best option for the nicest and most affordable option?

If you're OK with a podium cake or a pre-ordered standard cake, it'll certainly be the most affordable. Otherwise, it's gonna be tough to get fondant-covered cake for $50 or less. If you're OK with buttercream or ganache, that'll bring the price down. But really, each cake is custom-quoted, so it's best to speak with the pastry chef at the place that will make your cake.

So I emailed with Brian at Contemporary and ordered a cake for Mother's Day. Do I need to call to confirm this again??

I ordered a fondant covered cake, chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse filling. Pink, Purple, orange Spring flowers - Gerbera daisies maybe. But left it really up to him. I sure hope we get something amazing since he quoted $95. It's over my budget but it's my gift to myself and my mom.

oh I forgot to order our glass slipper dessert for CRT. How much time before ADR do I have to do that?

I don't know whether to order one for our table or one for each female (dd, my mom, and myself) or what. Any suggestions? what about the boys?? I was going to order them the treasure chest cakes but those are gone.

I would suggest 48 hours. Not sure about how many to order.?

As an update, I talked to Pat @ GF yesterday afternoon. We discussed the cake I was looking for and she recommended an 8 inch since we are a dining party of 8 people. She did tell me they are now charging $5 extra per cake for the sliced strawberries in the filling, not a big deal.
So what I ordered is an 8" chocolate cake with bavarian cream and sliced strawberries filling, with vanilla buttercream frosting tinted lime green, and the mini castle on top, to say "Happy 11th Birthday, Catie" on it. She quoted me $52 for that, which I thought was very reasonable. She did say if we did fondant it would be $78 minimum, and I didn't care about fondant, just wanted the custom cake with the castle topper.

Very reasonable I think. We are thinking about strawberry filling too. Still not sure which to use though. :confused3 Hope it all turns out well for you!!!!:)

Has anyone ordered a Buzz Lightyear cake. I would like to order one for my son. Please post a picture if you have one:)

Thanks in advance

I'm sure it's a long shot, but does anyone have a photo of a cake with a Fort Wilderness theme? My parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and for their honeymoon they were at WDW for its very first Christmas and stayed at Fort Wilderness. We'd really like a cake to represent that. Thank you!

I looked through the cake index and did not see anything with Chip n Dale...is it possible to get them on a cake in some way?

Yes - you can get any characters from the extended Disney family except Pooh & Friends.

I'm pretty sure (about 98.4% sure) that you can't get specially decorated cakes at FWC and WL can do basic decorated cakes. You might want to decide on a place to eat and then see what they can offer.
