Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Somebody on this thread was recently given the option of red velvet for a Contemporary Bakery cake, which I've never seen offered there before, so you may be good to go at the Wave—just call Private Dining at the resort.

Otherwise, the Grand Floridian can do red velvet, but you may have to be assertive about it. Sometimes they are not as accommodating about doing non-standard flavors like the ones they offer for wedding cakes. Also, just to warn you, Disney's red velvet is not that great IMHO. But if all you're after is the Christmas color, you should be OK! :thumbsup2
Red velvet is an option. It's just not a standard flavor so you have to request it.

Hey, we just ordered our specialty cake for Nov 10th at Cali Grill! :goodvibes It was very easy after having read about some difficult experiences on this thread. I first called the Contemporary front desk and the woman didn't know what I was talking about but eventually transferred me to what she said was room service who gave me the email to the pastry chef, Brian. After emailing him what we were hoping to get, he didn't say no to any of it! We ordered an eight inch chocolate cake with bavarian cream and fresh strawberry filling with palm trees, jungle animals, and a mud hut on top. It's going to be more expensive than we were hoping so I sure hope it's going to be as good as we're hoping! :wizard: I hope to post back with pics.

How long did it take for Brian to get back to you? It took me days just to get a person on the line to give me the email. I hope I hear back from them soon I know I don't need the cake for another 37 days but I'm so excited!

I just got off the phone with Pat at the GF bakery. We finalized an 8 inch chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling.

The frosting is fondant and the decorations are going to be shamrocks, leaves and irish dance shoes (DD10 is an Irish dancer).

We're there for DD's birthday. I'm so excited!

Well after emailing brian.. he gave me instructions to contact WL cake line.. so I had been calling them all week.. and no answer everyday.. even though I was calling during "order time" then finally today I got a call back! I think the woman was slightly confused. But Im going to email brian to verify he got the order.

So we are set for 12/4 for a Mickey head cake for $48 with vanilla cake!

Very excited!

just got an email back from Brian :cool1: looks like it will be $150 for the snow themed hand painted Pluto cake for DD 13 th birthday in Dec. :cloud9:

I didn't answer in time, but yeah, Brian got back to us in a timely 24 hours and then emailed us back the same day to have us call the Contemporary to actually place the oder. Ours will cost $135, more than I was hoping, but I have no idea how they calculate cost. I've love to see a 'snow-themed Plut' cake though. Sounds awesome.

Ilovemygirls there are some nice Christmas cakes at the begginning of this thread. If we hadn't specifically wanted a Liberian themed cake, that would have been a great idea.

I'm hoping someone can help with this. I just spoke to Yvonne at Pop regarding ordering a cake, she gave me the pricing info and we will probably go with the $45 cake, even though it will be large for us. Do they need to be refrigerated? I hope not as we will be there for 4 days after the cake is "started" and would hope to eat it during the rest of our trip. I'm sure this has also been asked, but I can't seem to locate the answer-What does the $45 cake have for decorations? They did say that if we want extra decorations it would be $30 or more extra. I realize that one of the extra fancy cakes is not what we are talking about, but I would like some kind of idea. She did give me the cake and icing flavor options, so I'm OK with that, I just don't know what to ask for. Also, she advised that the cake can either be picked up at POP food court or delivered to our room.

Your cake sounds yummy and cute I hope you can post pics

Would it be possible to order a cake for ~70 people for a dinner at Chef Mickey's?

Hi Guys!

I have seen on the very involved cake thread ;) pics of mini Mickey Mouse head cakes that are 1 snack credit a piece from the Boardwalk Bakery.

Can anyone that has been recently confirm if the mini Mickey Mouse head cakes can be found at the Boardwalk Bakery and are they easy to come by? I am wanting 7 of them and was wondering if I could place a request with the Bakery? It would be great if this could work out, it would be a good use of our snack credits.

Thanks for the help!

I was wondering if anyone has had experience ordering a custom cake from the Boardwalk. I initially called priority dining at BW but after describing what I wanted I was given the pastry chef's email (Yolanda). I was told to email her directly with my specifics and that she would get back to me. That was early last week and have not heard a thing. I hate to be pushy but we will be down at WDW Thanksgiving week and would really like confirmation. Has anyone else dealt with Yolanda?

Just wanted to post that I spoke with Pat from the GF on Thursday. She was very helpful! I was given her direct number after calling GF Private Dining and being given the standard "Chocolate or Vanilla" blah blah blah. So you definitely have to specify that you want a more elaborate cake. So anyway, I left a message on Pat's voicemail and heard back from her a few hours later, on Thursday night. I decided on a 6" Vanilla cake with a custard filling (maybe with Strawberries). She is going to have them do some fondant work with a Taekwondo logo (since the cake is a surprise celebrating DS9 getting his Black Belt in TKD). She also had me e-mail her a picture and she is going to have them put it on white chocolate to go on top of the cake. I was quoted $77. Hopefully it will all work out! We won't be having our cake until December 17th, so I'll definitely post pictures, etc. when we return.

Just placed my actual order for my son's Pluto cake. We will be there in a couple weeks and I can't wait. We are getting an 8in marble cake with strawberries and buttercream filling. I will be sure to post pictures when we get back.

I just placed an order through the main dining reservation line for the "my mini-surprise princess jewelry chest cake" - easy peasy :)

Regarding the chocolate slipper dessert at CRT.. I've been transfered to cinderella's royal table engagement line and then transfered to main street bakery, where I was then left no choice but to leave a message. Is this correct?

I also left a message for Pat at GF.. she sounds so nice :)

I just ordered a custom cake from the BW today. I dealt with Felipe Poma. You can call the BWI and they will transfer you. He was very helpful. Once we made contact I emailed his the particulars and he's been very thorough. Good luck.

Just ordered my cake today!!!:banana:We are picking it up at the Boardwalk Bakery on Jan13. It is the six inch anniversary cake pictured on this thread. The one in the style of Mickey Delight (silver). I'm not getting a topper as I have ordered the Mickey Minnie bride and groom figurine from Memories by Betsy so that will be the topper. The cake is vanilla with strawberry fruit mousse filling. DH and I are celebrating ten years together. We're having a little party in the room (just the five of us). As I mentioned Memories by Betsy is delivering a basket with monogrammed towels, a Cinderella cake knife and server, tenth anniversary ornament, the figurine and a few other items. So excited.

Here is the info on my Pirate custom cake.

I called Private Dining at the Contemp for a custom birthday cake for my 5 year old's celebration at Chef Mickey's on Oct. 30, 2010. I was given Chef Brian's email address and emailed him 12 days prior to my son's birthday. I heard back from him within a day. I requested a marble cake, pirate themed, for 8 people, and asked for his suggestions. He quoted me $135 for the cake. I asked if the decor could be scaled back to fit into a $100 budget (plus tax and grat).

So here is what I got: 8" marble cake, choc mousse filling, chocolate buttercream and ganache. It was delicious, and I'm very particular about my cakes. Maybe it was because I was nervous about the taste and wasn't expecting much, but I thought it was so well done, and very tasty! Eight people, eating generous pieces, ate 1/2 the cake at lunch. His birthday was the last day at Disney, and we took it with us. Five of us finished the cake for the next week, and it was just as tasty. Everything on it was edible. Here are the pics:

One suggestion if you plan on taking the cake to go -- ask for a box beforehand. They had to hunt down a box from the bakery at the contemp, so it took about 15 minutes. Not a big deal at all, but good to know if you plan on taking some with you. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, a delicious cake, and exceptional service. We will definitely be ordering a cake again on our next visit.

Finally got through to the BW bakery. It took 7 days but finally spoke to one of the pastry chefs. I emailed a picture of a Tinkerbell cake I saw on this thread so hopefully we get something close. We are celebrating my youngest daughter's b-day and wanted something special because this will be the first trip in 15 years that my parents will not be with us. My Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers in the spring and has other medical problems which would make this trip difficult on them. This trip will be bittersweet.

This is DS's birthday cake from November 2 at Chef Mickey's. His favorite colors are orange and blue and his favorite thing about WDW is the monorail. It was chocolate with white chocolate mousse filling.

Chef Brian did a fabulous job, and it tasted great!

So we're 4 weeks out from our trip, and I need help!

Is 4 weeks out too soon to call?

Please help me, I want this to go well. Help me script my call!
This is what I want:
I want a 6" round "Anniversary" Mickey's Delight (fondant covered) cake, just like our Wedding Cake. I don't have our BEO anymore. We're staying at the Polynesian, eating at Ohana, and we also have a reservation at 1900 Park Fare. The only reason I'm keeping the 1900 Park Fare reservation is because of the cake, so if I can have it delivered to Ohana... that would be ideal. :cloud9:

So I'm going to call the Cake Hotline. Where do I go from there? Please help! I remember talking to Pat 2 trips ago and she was less than helpful. Has she gotten a little less surly?
