I have my cake ordered! May 9th at WCC for my son's 6th birthday! It's going to be a pirate theme cake...he will be sooo excited!
I will post photos as soon as we get back!

As someone who had a Disney wedding, I don't think the "uniqueness" or "specialness" to past brides thing is a problem. I wouldn't give a rat's patootie if hundreds of people wanted a replica of my wedding cake! :lmao: I also think that the pastry chefs probably love getting requests for special cakes because they get a chance to be more creative. (Maybe CakeManBri will weigh in on this one... :teeth:)

I think the problem is, as Kurby said, that Disney is a huge organization and the right hand never seems to know what the left hand is doing. Ask a different cast member, get a different answer.

And then when you consider all the personalities involved—maybe the CM is having a bad day or gets 300 calls a day asking if it's possible to get the Cinderella Slipper dessert delivered to ESPN Zone—who knows? :cutie:
What I am about to say is in not an official statement from the company but my own opinion. I love to create cakes for my guest and the beat reward is hearing that you all liked what you got and like to hear the bad too so I know what we need to work on. But as far as all the confusion remember that all the bakeries are seperate and not all locations have the same skill level. Another thing the cm that take the cake orders are not always aware of what the bakery is or isn't capable of. So in my opinion I would ask to speak to the chef or email etc. I hope this helps and remeber it's only my opion and I'm not speaking for the company as whole. I do however hope I continue to get different request from all of you!

I cannot wait to put in our order for our 10 yr anniversary/both of us completing our masters degree cake in early Aug! It's killing me having to wait so long! We were married at Disney and cannot wait to celebrate our 10yr anv. there w/extended family. I will be coming directly to you b/c your work is fantastic!

The pictures of your cakes is the only reason that I am even half-way considering getting a special cake for our BLT Memorial Day Weekend trip. It'll be me & DH's 11th wedding anniversary and two weeks before our two boys' 9th and 5th birthdays plus our first SWW trip - plenty of reasons to celebrate with cake :cake: . A big part of me wants to get a cake by you but after my awful cake experience at AKV I'm very hesitant - not to mention I think DH would flip if I said I was considering it. :rolleyes1

You got my request for my son's Pirate Cake!! I'm so excited and sure any idea you come up with will be wonderful!

Kurby, his masterpieces are throughout the cake gallery and the cake FAQs.
Just go through them. :goodvibes
And if you are willing to pay the HEFTY delivery fee for the CR to deliver to the GF......well, JMHO it would make just more sense to just either stay at the CR, BLT or just eat at the CR/BLT to get one of his cakes. :cutie:

LilGMom, anytime I think about wanting a cake over at AKL, I look at your disaster of a cake ( in the part 2 FAQ ) and there's no way I would order a cake over there. CMB would take care of you, no doubt! ::yes::

My hat's off to you, girlfriend! For everything you've gone through! :worship:

This sounds like really good simple advice that doesn't include begging and calling back twenty times :goodvibes I too hope that I get you when we order the cake because it is an interesting request...

Where: California Grill / Contemporary Resort
When: February 2010
Cost: Can't remember
Cake: Vanilla with Butter Cream icing / I cna't remember the center

I wanted something simple b/c quite frankly Jack wouldn't remember it anyway! :lmao:

If you look closely you will see Jack's fingers digging into the icing.

The cake was very good. I wish I would have done this sooner in our trip though. THis was a big cake and we barely made a dent in it. We ended up leaving half of it in our room.

I am really looking forward to our "CakeManBri" creation in June! Our DS is finishing middle school and will be headed to a WONDERFUL performing arts high school in the Fall. The cake is a surprise for him. We'll have the cake after dinner at The Wave, then we'll go on a Wishes cruise. I hope the night is extra magical. DS is our only child, so we only have one chance to do this! :goodvibes

Okay, probably buried in here somewhere may be the answer to my question, but I simply don't have the patience to read thru all of these posts. Can anyone tell me if Cape May has a bakery where I could order a specialty cake? We will be celebrating DH's birthday while we are at Disney and I want to do a character breakfast there since he is a big Donald Duck fan and this seems to be the best place to see him at a character breakfast. I want to order a Donald Duck cake for him, but since it is only the 2 of us, I don't want a huge cake. Any answers/suggestions?

Thanks.

I know I have read this on here somewhere but can't find the post.

If I just wanted to order one of the cute little mickey cakes while I am in Disneyworld, which bakery is it and how far in advance do I order it?

I know someone said that I could wait till we get there and either give them 24 or 48 hours notice, but for the life of me I can't remember the info.

Does anyone know if I can get a cake delivered to Old Key West? My other option is to just pick up a Boardwalk bakery.

I don't know if this helps any, but you may want to try calling Olivia's, the restaurant located at OKW, to see if they'll make something and deliver it to you room?:confused3

Good luck and ENJOY YOUR TRIP :goodvibes

I have some questions regarding ordering a cake from Cali Grill for our dinner there, if anyone can help I appreciate it...(lurkyloo, you out there?);)

1) We will only be a party of 4, so I'm wondering how small size a cake will they decorate?

2) How far ahead do I have to call Contemporary private dining?

3) Who do I speak to?

4) Any decor ideas for a cake to celebrate 21st birthdays for my DD and her BFF?

Thanks guys, this thread is great!

The answer's in the first post, and it looks like this:

How do I order a Fancy or Fondant covered cake?
To order a fancy cake, you need to call Private Dining at the Grand Floridian, The Contemporary, BoardWalk Inn, Animal Kingdom Lodge or Yacht and Beach Club. If you want the cake delivered to a restaurant, you will need to have an ADR at a restaurant within the resort whose bakery you choose. If you want a cake delivered to your room, you will need to be staying at the resort whose bakery you choose.

You may be told that 8-inch is the smallest customizable cake—it seems to vary by bakery. A 6-inch would be better but will still be way too much for 2 people. If you're not choosy, they can give you a (smaller) 6-inch readymade cake if you ask for it at the podium. It will probably have Mickey on the white chocolate disk (see example below), but maybe you could plop a Donald figurine on the cake when DH is not looking. :cutie:

Which kind of Mickey cake are you looking for - something like this?

Or this?

Or....?

1) We will only be a party of 4, so I'm wondering how small size a cake will they decorate?

Contemporary Bakery says 8-inch is the smallest. This is how much of our 8-inch cake was left after 4 of us each had a slab...

2) How far ahead do I have to call Contemporary private dining?

2 weeks is plenty of time.

3) Who do I speak to?

Anyone who answers the phone at Private Dining—just be sure they know you want to get in touch with the pastry chef, and they'll give you his email. (I think DIS etiquette is not to name names, but his starts with "CakeMan..." :teeth:)

4) Any decor ideas for a cake to celebrate 21st birthdays for my DD and her BFF?

I'd definitely search Flickr.com on the terms "cake" plus "[insert hip thing that DD & BFF love]" :thumbsup2

We're planning a Disney trip for December, probably about 1 or 2 weeks before Christmas. When were there last summer I ordered a suprise Mickey head cake for my nephew's first visit and my mother loved it, this year I would like to get her a Christmas themed cake if I can hopefully get ressies at the Cinderella dinner at the Grand Floridian. Since there's 2 of us...is there any way we can get a 6 inch cake? I'm not sure if I want fondant or ganache or buttercream, but I do want some fondant Christmas figurines. If so, does anyone know around how much it will cost?

The Grand Floridian will customize 6-inch cakes, so you're in luck. However, for a custom cake, a pastry chef has to provide the estimate, so it's impossible to know exactly what it will cost.

Somebody a few pages back was told by the GF that a 6" cake in buttercream is $57, while basic fondant is $66, and this is about in line with what people have been paying over the last year. However, the cost will go up depending on the complexity of the fondant figurines you want, and only the chef can say for sure what it will be.

If it helps, here are some examples:

Our anniversary cake from the GF went from $55 to $110 with the addition of the fondant topper and other decor seen here:

Our Christmas cake from the Contemporary Bakery (not the GF) cost $100 and included all these fondant figures:
