Wise cake ordering experts: Should I call and confirm my order a couple days before? I have it scheduled for the day we get there so I can't really wait until we get down there and it is a surprise :cool1:

Yes call and confirm it.

There was just a thread a couple days ago of a mom who had ordered her daughter's cake for their honeymoon. It was to be delievered while her the the groom were dining at Cali Grill (I believe). When she didn't hear from her daughter she called and questioned how the cake was.
Well it was never delievered. It was at the restaurant, but never brought to the table. The mom was not happy.

So yes, check on it.

Just asking. My husband and I are staying at Animal Kingdom Kidani Village. We have a reservation at Chef Mickeys. Should I contact the famous Chef Brian and have him make us something for our Chef Mickey Reservation OR should I just have the resort do it and deliver it to our room? Its for our 1 year anniversary.

Thanks!
Beth

Is like to know the answer to this. I'm staying ay AKL and was thinking about having a cake delivered nut there didn't seem to be a great selection. :surfweb:

Just called yesterday and confirmed my in-room cake delivery for Thursday.

All appears to be a go.

I will say that I kept getting VM on the CR cake line, but just kept calling back throughout the day until I got a live person. I figured that leaving a VM wasn't the same as actually confirming.

I have ordered a 6 inch fondant cake for my DD's 19th birthday at O'Hana this Saturday. I am so looking forward to seeing what Pat has designed for me. I will post pics on our return.
Only question I have is if it is normal for my CC to have been charged already?

The Contemporary bakery has more experience making fondant-covered cakes, so it seems like a safer bet. Getting one done at AKL can be kind of a hassle.

This may be because you are having the cake delivered outside the GF, where it is being made, instead of having it delivered to a room or a restaurant at the GF (where they'd have a way to track you down!).

Ok, I am going to order today or tomorrow for multiple cakes. One for my daughter's 5th birthday at Chef Mickey's. Then a cake for my parents anniversary later in the week at Cape May. Do I call the cake hotline and then get transfered to the private dining or get an email address and go that route? There will be 7 of us so would we be better off with a 8 inch or 10 in? Also when I order will I get an option for how many layers the cake is or does it depend on the size we are getting how many layers are going to be in it. I just want to make sure I have as much information before I call so I can hopefully get cakes we are happy with. Thanks for the help and info!! :)

I'm starting to worry about ordering a cake now for our Anniversary. Seems more and more people have had less than stellar experiences lately, and I'm wondering if it's worth it. Has anyone had a GREAT experience ordering / receiving cakes in the past few weeks?:confused3

What a great thread. I am excited to order a cinderella's slipper for my DD's dinner at CRT! Thanks everyone for sharing your pictures!

I hear you. I'm one that has been having a hard time ordering my cake, and it is really disheartening - This is supposed to be Disney, right? However, I was able to find a new chef to do mine (because in all truth, I couldn't leave it in the hands of the original chef, and have any faith that she would get it done right, if at all) and I feel a lot better.

I suggest to just keep up on the chef that is doing your cake. Email / call them 2 weeks before your date. Then again a day or two before, just to make sure they remember you. Yeah, they will probably get a bit annoyed at you, but shoot, I'm paying $125 for a cake for my family - I want it done right! :goodvibes

In the last few weeks...no. However, in May 2010 I ordered my husband a Haunted Mansion cake for California Grill and it was a truly magical experience. Servers were coming to our table. They all heard about our cake and wanted to see it. It was so worth it but we were not on a budget. The cakes are not cheap. But my husband's reaction was worth everything to me. It really was an extravagance to us but one of those things we will never forget.

Does anyone know what kinds of cakes, if any, are offered at The Plaza? TO be even more specific can the Pirate Mini Surprise Cake can be order at the Plaza?

We had this cake deleivered for my daughters birthday in January at Sci Fi. It was a white cake had a white cream and was delicious. We just told them that we wanted Kermit and I loved it! It was only 30.00. I did not give them a price but told them I wanted Kermit was worried when it was so cheap but we loved it.

How far in advance do I order Cinderella Slipper desserts , I need them for August 22nd !!As this is not a special cake I figured not much time would be needed . Also do you pay in advance or on the day!???

I'm not sure on the timing (doesn't hurt to go ahead and start the process? :confused3) but if CRT does it like Whispering Canyon the slipper desserts will be added to your restaurant check for you to pay for them.

Does anyone know if any other bakery at Disney has an email address other than the Contemporary? I am getting at least two cakes this trip for my families celebrations from two different sites. Already started my email to the contemporary and that has been so easy. Our second cake is going to be from Yacht/Beach Club Bakery.

That makes so much sense. Thanks for all of your help and hard work with this board. I can't wait for the cake!

I am having a weird experience with my cake ordering too. After I got a call from Customer Service, I expected a call right away. I have still not gotten a call. In the mean time I contacted the pastry chef at DHS. He has replied and we have been emailing back and forth in a preliminary fashion, discussing options and ideas. When I told him I was ready to order, I didn't get a reply. The next day I emailed him to say " did you get my email saying I was ready to confirm?" he replied back "yes, you are all set to go" I am all set to go? We never firmed anything up! He didn't even know when I was picking the cake up or the birthday girls name! So I emailed him back, "ok, what do I have to do?" fist reply was "just pick the cake up, we will charge your credit card then" next reply was " oh, do you want this or this" followed by another this or this question. Really!? Doesn't Disney have an order form? No CC guarantee? I sent him an email back listing everything that I want, confirmed pick up date and place and price. I hope this works out!

I am printing out all my emails and bringing them with me just in case.

8" should be fine. My advice is know exactly what you want when you call. In my experience The order takers don't seem to know the right questions to ask. Have a list of wants in mind and then take it from there. If you wait for them to tell you, you won't get what you want.

i really enjoyed all of the postings here on the disboards that helped me out so much for my trip so i wanted to share some ideas for others :) best wishes!
