I would like to do a cake for DS turning 16 at HDDR. This trip it is only 4 of us. Have done 10 in , fondant ...a while back but had a bigger party size.

I want a buttercream cake(no fondant) but custom colors, green, and a cutome topper. Most likely a big "16" type of thing.

Will I have to do a 10 inch for this? Anyone have exp at HDDR with a custom cake order? We go in 2 weeks so I need to get an order in soon I am guessing.

HDDR is serviced by the Contemporary, so you should have no problem getting a 6-inch or 8-inch cake.

We just had a cake that we picked up at Olivia's for our dd's birthday. My dh just went to Olivia's and brought it back to the room and surprised our daughter.

Can you sneak out by saying your going to the "store" or going to refill your mug... just think of any excuse to go to the front desk area and pick up the cake instead, that's what we did. If your wife insist on going with you go out by the tables by the outside dining.. have her sit down and excuse yourself to go the "restroom" and come back with the cake instead. Or you can always eat at Olivia's and they will bring the cake to your table! :)

I ended up ordering the cake from Olivia's and making a reservation for Sunday evening. Thye will make a big deal out of it and should be a great surprise.

Thanks!

Ok so I am staying at Port Orleans Riverside. I want to get 2 cakes. One on my son's birthday and one 2 days later on my hubby's birthday. My son's favorite charter right now is Olaf. For what I am understand in order to have the cake in the room I need to order from Boardwalk and the will send it to the food court and I will bring it back to the room. Is this correct? Also do you know it it going to be hard to get a cake with Olaf on it? It doesn't really matter much else about the cake. Just want to get that little guy on it some how.

Shouldn't be too hard. There should be a chocolate olaf by now.

There are pictures of 2 Olaf mini cakes on page 4 of this thread

I have three options for my husbands birthday:

1. order at the resort (Coronado Springs).
2. order at dinner (Raglan Road DTD).
3. order at lunch (LTT MK).

What would be my best option for a nice custom made cake? Truthfully I would prefer to have it done at dinner, but I do not know if that is an option since we will be eating at Raglan Road :confused3.

Allllmost... You can't order directly from BoardWalk, even though they are the ones who will make your cake. You need to call POR, and then THEY will place the order with BWB. If you call BWB directly, they will tell you they don't deliver to Riverside. It's needlessly complicated, I know....

Regarding Olaf, they will have no problem doing a screen print directly on an 8-inch or larger cake. They may also be able to screen print him on white chocolate and then stand it up on top of or next to the cake.

Shouldn't be too hard. There should be a chocolate olaf by now.

You would think, but apparently the approval process for creating a new white chocolate character can take months or years because they have to get it exactly on-model. They didn't create a Stitch until Aulani opened, and I was told it took something like 9 months to get approval on the design.

The best option is Liberty Tree Taven in MK. Coronado Springs doesn't do custom cakes. They have 5 standard styles, all frosted in whipped cream. No fondant or fancy decoration is available. Raglan Road offers its own very basic cakes, but not fancy fondant ones. The Contemporary creates the cakes for the MK and they can do pretty much anything you want. You just have to go back and forth with the MK cake folks (see post #2) a bit before they'll let you work directly with the Contemporary on something custom.

anyone ever gotten a cake at Trail's End or Teppan Edo? I have dinners planned at both and would love to see what the options were there, if anyone had any experiences from those spots? thanks!

Thank you Lurkyloo!:)

Trail's End is serviced by the Contemporary, so the sky is pretty much the limit. Teppan Edo gets their cakes from an outside vendor that only offers chocolate or vanilla in this basic style.

It does, BUT that means you get the auto-gratuity added to the price of the cake too. I know exactly how you feel. We had to pay an 18% tip on a $100 cake with TIW a couple years ago, and I didn't have the guts to ask the restaurant manager to adjust it. But it made me a bit queasy to pay an extra $18 just to have the guy bring a cake to our table.

At CRT if I order a cake, and pay for it there, would we still get an additional gratuity added, or just the cost of the cake, or how does this work for paying for a cake there?

Don't take this the wrong way but. This is DISNEY correct. Where are the elaborate cakes? When I think of ordering a cake from Disney I expect grand and really original and I am just not seeing it. SORRY

Fancy, elaborate cakes come with fancy, elaborate price tax. Most ppl ordering cakes are usually ordering for a small number of people, thus a small cake, small canvas. There's only so much you can put on a 6-8" cake.

I'm hoping I have enough time! Normally we order at least 4 weeks out, but we weren't planning to until our ADR plans changed and we're now only dining at restaurants that are less likely to offer safe (gluten-free/corn-free) dessert options for us. Now I want a cake, for Sept 1st at CRT. Hoping everything works out. My badness level is unusually high, and I need DESSERTS! :stitch2::stitch:

Has anyone ever tried to order chocolate covered strawberries before? I'm planning to order a small two-tier mini cake to be delivered to our room at the Grand Villas and wanted to see if I could add a few chocolate covered strawberries to go along with it (not to be on the cake, just delivered with it). Just wanted to see if anyone else had ever done this.

Not sure about ordering with the cake, UGAFan, but I know you can order the strawberries thru private dining, so I don't see why not - as long as you're ordering from the GF anyway. Good luck!

is there a way to contact Chef Brian directly? I have emailed the Contemporary and gotten Chef Donald who is very nice but I wanted to see if Chef Brian had any ideas. I was also quoted twice as much for a mini-maxi cake than Carrie had paid and mine isn't even fondant. :(

Thanks Lurkyloo!!!!!! I think I'll do it at Trail's End then :) I want something fun/unique :)

BTW you're awesome at what you do for us cake lovers here on the DIS!!!

Has anyone ordered a mini cake for AKL yet? I guess they now offer a vanilla/vanilla or chocolate/chocolate one. I would like to see what they look like before I make the decision to order for Feb.

Has anyone had any luck getting Star Wars themed cakes at GF? We are celebrating my son's 5th birthday while we're there and he is Star Wars OBSESSED. We have a dinner at 1900 PF the first full day we're there and I wanted to have it there.
If not, what are some of the best ideas GF can do for a 5th birthday in your opinion? Probably looking for a 8".
Thanks!!!!

He works Thursday through Monday, try sending an email then. I just ordered a 6 in marble with white chocolate mousse and topped with chocolate buttercup am and covered in fondant with a little mermaid theme. :) He quoted me $98.
