BTW you're awesome at what you do for us cake lovers here on the DIS!!!

Ordering and eating all these cakes is a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it! :rotfl:

Has anyone ordered a mini cake for AKL yet? I guess they now offer a vanilla/vanilla or chocolate/chocolate one. I would like to see what they look like before I make the decision to order for Feb.

I'm not sure where you saw that, but I just ordered a custom cake from AKL last week and was told they do not have the ability to make mini cakes. I went with a 6-inch cake instead. I have edited the AKL info on my DisneyTravelBabble site and the second post of this thread to reflect that... :thumbsup2

Is there still no mini cake option available for AKL? There's only two of us and we will only be staying at WDW for 2 full days before we go on our cruise on the Dream. I can't fathom eating a 6 or 8 inch cake all by ourselves. The sugar rush will be killer!

OK, it turns out AKL now offers a simple one-tier mini cake in chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream or vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, covered in chocolate ganache. They also now want 5-7 days' notice for custom cakes, but it sounds like the mini may be considered a standard cake.

:) I had asked earlier in the thread and I guess there were mini cakes offered at that time? It's a bummer to hear that they don't offer that option now. Can't eat a big cake with just the two of us in AKL for two days before hopping on the Dream. Thank you for all your help!

Yeah, that's weird... Last week they told me they didn't have the "equipment" to make mini cakes, but since they once did make them, then... what happened to the equipment? :confused3 :rotfl:

Hello! I reached out to the contemp on the cake below. It's such a fantastic cake and I saw it pictured here on the boards a couple of years ago. The cake team contacted me within hours and quoted 195 for an 8". I asked to see if the price could be lowered. They offered an 8" in with the fondant and mickey but not the mad hatter style for $121.... this quote is more in my range :). Does anyone have any other ideas that may make the cake exciting?

I just ordered my cake for our late September trip. Chef Brian & I decided on recreating our "Wishes"cake he made 2 years ago, but with the Fab 5 in front of the castle. I cannot wait to see what he comes up with! Of course I will post pics! Cannot wait!pixiedust:

Oooo if you ordered yours for late Sept I need to get on mine for my parent's anniversary!!

What did your Wishes cake look like?? I'm kind of at a loss of how to decorate it and it's a big anniversary (40 years!!!). Anyone have good anniversary cake pics??

I'm new to this....seriously had no idea you could even get cakes at WDW. We are going to be at All Star Sports in November for my youngest son's birthday. He will be 8. I would love to get a sports theme cake (he plays baseball, football, and basketball) maybe with a few characters playing the sports. How would I even get started trying to make this cake a reality?

Call the phone number for the All-Stars listed in Post #2. If you can create a mockup of the design you want, that helps too. :thumbsup2

The animals must've gotten to them. Hopefully next time I go to WDW for a longer stay, I can get a cake. Was really hoping I could've done it this time since it will be my fiance's birthday on the day we check in. Or I'm thinking of calling in January to see if the equipment magically appeared again! :cool2:

I spoke to Pat Anderson at the GF yesterday and ordered a mini two tier for our anniversary. Initially, I spoke to someone else but when I asked If I could have Mickey heads on it, they told me that would be considered as a custom cake and directed me to call Pat. When I spoke to her she told me it was no problem. I was also able to add a half dozen chocolate strawberries through her as well. Can't wait to see it!

How long ago did they tell you that? I've heard of people recently getting Star Wars themed cakes outside of HS

You can get Star Wars themed cakes from the Contemporary bakery. We had one in July at the Wilderness Lodge. It was a Storm Tropper screen printed on a piece of chocolate on top of the cake. I checked with Sci-Fi Dine-In also but they wanted more so I went with the Contemporary.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I've just been told that if you want a non-standard image on a cake, they require a minimum 30 days notice to do the cake.

This is after sending an e-mail to the Magic Kingdom cakes e-mail addy from the 1st page.

I am wanting to order a cake to celebrate my DS 16th birthday, my daughter and son-in-laws 3rd anniversary and my 27th anniversary. I was thinking maybe a nice celebration cake to cover all three.

In 2009 I ordered a birthday cake for my DS and we had it delivered to Sci-Fi.

It was $85 and was a good cake, but I want something different this time. I don't want to spend a fortune on a cake, but I do want a nice cake that tastes good!

In 2008 we ordered a cake to be delivered to The Plaza for my DD and oldest DS birthday.

It was the WORST cake I have ever tasted, and that is all I did was taste it. The cake was so dry it was inedible. We didn't eat it at the restaurant as we had already had dessert. Since we were leaving the park after eating we had them box it up and we took it back to our room. Later that evening we cut the cake and after ONE bite the cake went in the garbage, so needless to say we do not want to order one of these.

I would love to see any pictures of cake ideas for this multi purpose celebration.

Oh goodness, now I'm thinking that if we want a great tasting cake, we may have to spend more than planned. We planned to get a standard 6" cake but it seems as if those don't taste as well:confused3 I've heard the custom cakes taste better but we don't want to spend over $50.

I'm wondering what the cheapest "good tasting" cake I could get would be...any ideas?

The only cakes that are made way ahead are the 6-inch "podium cakes" that you get when you ask the hostess at check in. If you order a custom cake, no matter what size or decoration style, they will make it fresh. Occasionally you hear horror stories about stale cake, but the number of these has gone way down in the last few years.

We are celebrating my son's sixth birthday at WDW. He is also having a party with all of his friends at home. He has requested a Titanic cake. I'm trying to decide A) If a Titanic cake is appropriate for a 6 year old. B) Whe they to have the Contemporary do it (if they can) our have it at his birthday party. Thoughts?

That makes me feel better then! I was scared we may have to pay a minimum of $60 or $70 for a tasty cake. We just want a simple 6" cake with Happy Birthday on it and maybe some little painted on Mickey ears around it - nothing extravagant since the cakes are more than they cost here of course, but something to celebrate a Disney birthday!

Thanks for all your help!

I really think it's the luck of the draw. We ordered our DS a cake at Epcot 4 yrs. ago. At the time, the options were limited. I chose the most expensive option available & ordered a chocolate cake with a screen print on top. When it arrived, I was very disappointed. We each ate one bite & left it there. No one wanted to take it to eat later. It was supposed to be made fresh, but it was horrible. Some people have success others don't. It seems the more you spend the greater your odds for a fantastic cake. Also, being specific about details seems to increase your chances of a good cake.
