Does anyone know if we can request a birthday cake during a BOG lunch? Hoping to get a FP for this. Thanks!

Yes. You can either ask for one of the pre-made all-vanilla or all-chocolate cakes when you check arrive at the restaurant, or you can order a custom cake ahead by using the contact info in Post #2.

Just wondering if I need to call the Contemporary for them to give me his email as in the past. I still have the old one from past cakes I've ordered. Does anyone know if the Contemporary has ever done any kind of Star Wars cake? Thanks!

i just realized i never posted 'real' camera pics of our cake from feb. it's not the most exciting cake, but it was exactly what we ordered and it was cute and delicious.

it was a hit! :lovestruc

a two-tier mini cake covered in fondant with yellow cake, white fondant, vanilla buttercream under the fondant and chocolate mousse filling between the layers. the number and the stripes were different shades of teal and the white part of the cake had really pretty iridescent edible glitter on it. it was made by chef brian at the contemporary and it cost $35 before tax/delivery/gratuity.

so now for what brought me back to this thread- we somehow ended up booking a trip for baby's second birthday....so i guess we will need another cake! this time we are staying at the boardwalk...i'm a little sad we wont get another great chef brian creation, but i have faith the BWB will do a great job. that being said, does anybody know all the different available color combos of mickey head sprinkles at resort bakeries?

Just ordered my Elsa cake for my dd!! i will take lots of pictures! thanks for all the help!

If I need a cake for a meal at 'OHana I should call the Polynesian number directly, right?

I was thinking for our room, but would be even better to have it in a restaurant.

Sorry can I clarify, would I be able to take the cake in and give it to someone and have it brought out to us at the end of the meal? Thank you Carrie for all your help xx

HI, me again. After reading dozens of pages of cake chatter, I think I have a better idea of the process, and of what I want to do. I have some more-specific questions that I hope someone can answer; I am especially curious about what can be customized. The cake is for DD's 21st birthday, and there will be 3 of us, staying 5 nights at BWV. While I don't mind some leftover cake, we don't want to be eating cake for breakfast and bedtime snack EVERY day, so I am leaning towards the smaller cakes.

ORDERING DETAILS:
Staying at Boardwalk Villas, I "assume" I'd order through the phone number listed for the Boardwalk Inn, and the cake will be made by the Boardwalk Bakery. Yes? I'd like the cake to be IN our room on the evening of arrival day (NOT in the room when we arrive). Can I ask the bakery (or note on the order) to please deliver between 8pm and 10pm? Will I need to contact them post-arrival and give them our room number, or will BWI/BWV make sure the cake gets to the right place?

CAKE:
Mini cakes: How big? It looks like a 2" round on top of a 3.5" round, but how tall are they?
>I know the cake has 2 tiers, but does each tier have multiple layers?
>How flexible is BW Bakery about cake flavors and filling? (I think DD would like a vanilla cake with strawberry filling and white buttercream frosting). Also, how flexible with decorations? I am thinking white frosting with bright pink or green mickey heads on the side, maybe a flower or decoration on top.

2-tier small cake: I saw that Lurkyloo had one of these, with a 3" round atop a 5" round. Will BW Bakery MAKE a cake of this size? Once again, how flexible is BW Bakery about cake flavors, filling, and decorations for this style cake? Any idea of the price range for a cake like this, with the "simple" decorations described above? Also, did each tier of this cake have multiple layers?

6" round cake: Will Boardwalk Bakery customize the flavors and fillings on this size cake, or am I stuck with vanilla/white or chocolate/chocolate? Are these multi-layer cakes or one layer? Price range? I am not looking for elaborate decoration, chocolate figurines or 2-Ds, just a pretty birthday cake for my DD!
(If I was going all-out, I'd want the Epcot decorations from the old Epcot napkins- or my trip ticker- around the sides of the cake with decoration or writing on top- but I don't' want a huge, $100+ cake! My budget is more in the $50 range...)

I know there are a lot of questions, and I'd be best served by calling directly, but (a) our trip isn't until October, and (b) it sounds like those who get the closest cake to what they want are the ones who go into ordering with lots of information and who know what the bakery will do. Any information is welcomed… thanks for your help!

I am so excited! I ordered three cakes for our celebrations for next week.

Chef Brian and Carol at the Contemporary were so helpful and easy to to work with.

I hope to post pictures when we get back. Thank you for all the great information posted on this thread. :thanks:

Hi! No, unfortunately, the restaurant will not store a cake in its fridge unless the cake was made by Disney. It's a health code violation.

If I need a cake for a meal at 'OHana I should call the Polynesian number directly, right?

Yep!

i just realized i never posted 'real' camera pics of our cake from feb. it's not the most exciting cake, but it was exactly what we ordered and it was cute and delicious. that being said, does anybody know all the different available color combos of mickey head sprinkles at resort bakeries?

Thanks for posting your cake! I think you'll need to contact the BW pastry team directly to find out what your sprinkle color options are. I've never seen them posted here.

Just wondering if I need to call the Contemporary for them to give me his email as in the past. I still have the old one from past cakes I've ordered.

Use the email in Post #2 of this thread but call to follow up if you don't hear anything within about a week.

As long as you are checked in, they can deliver at a time you specify. But 9pm may be the latest time offered. They will know what room number to deliver to based on your name.

Here's what the inside of a 2-tier from BoardWalk Bakery looks like:

They are more like 1 1/2-inch atop a 3-inch.

>How flexible is BW Bakery about cake flavors and filling? (I think DD would like a vanilla cake with strawberry filling and white buttercream frosting). Also, how flexible with decorations? Neither of those should be a problem for BWB, but you can't get fresh fruit fillings (i.e., chunks) inside a minicake, just fruit-flavor fillings.

2-tier small cake: I saw that Lurkyloo had one of these, with a 3" round atop a 5" round. Will BW Bakery MAKE a cake of this size?

Hard to say. They don't seem as flexible as the Contemporary, where I got mine, but it never hurts to ask.

6" round cake: Will Boardwalk Bakery customize the flavors and fillings on this size cake, or am I stuck with vanilla/white or chocolate/chocolate? Are these multi-layer cakes or one layer? Price range?

Supposedly they won't, but, again, it never hurts to ask. It's a one-tier cake with multiple layers inside. Prices ranges are in Post #2 of this thread, but it really depends on how elaborate you want to go, fondant, etc. You can also give them a budget and ask what they can do for that.

Thank you, lurkyloo, for your infinite patience with my, and everyone else's, questions! I so appreciate the help and info! :woohoo:

My newest thought was to see if I could get a tie-dyed cheesecake- a whole one- like they serve at POP, but I guess they aren't making "real" cheesecakes with red velvet cake crust anymore  - just multi-colored goop in a plastic cup. Do you have any idea why the stopped making the cheesecake? I get it, money, of course, but POP was KNOWN for its tie-dye cheesecake! Bummer… back to the drawing board!

Thanks again for your help! :flower3:

So if I want a cake to be brought out at Ohana's-that is more than just a regular cake, I order through Grand Floridian bakery?

Dang! I hadn't heard that. What a dumb way to cut costs! :rolleyes2

Right—if you want fondant or anything fancy, call the GF directly to place your order.

We will be in wdw for Granddaughters 3rd bday in November. Looking for pics of either Sophia the first or Ariel cake. I have looked through some of the pages but I haven't been able to find one. We will be having dinner at Ohana on her bday so I will order from GF.

So how would I be able to take it in with us? Just keep it on the table with us? Would they really be ok with that? Think in room might be a better solution.

Sorry if this is answered already or not allowed. I was wondering if anyone knew of any places to get a cake off property and possibly have it delivered. Tia

I just started ordering my parent's Surprise 20th anniversary cake this morning. Last year we ordered my little sister a specialty sweet 16 cake so I'm basically following the same process as last year. Instead of calling the hotline I'm using the magickingdomcakes email address so I can send them the sketch that I made of the cake that I want. Last year they were very accommodating and made the exact cake that I designed. I know that the email only works for restaurants inside the park but i find it easier to communicate exactly what i want. Hopefully I will have the same luck this year. Fingers crossed!
