We're meeting friends at Via Napoli. It's our last night with them and I wanted to order a small cake for thanking them for our time with them. Can someone recommend something small for 4 people?

Via Napoli only offers a limited selection of cakes. You can see descriptions in the second post of this thread.

Ok, I just confirmed with Yacht & Beach Club private dining.
6 in chocolate cake with peanut butter and chocolate ganache filling.
Indiana Jones theme with edible decorations (e.g., a hat and whip of fondant)
The price was $65 plus tax, delivered to Yachtsman
Is this too cheap or does it sound right?
Now I'm worried the cake will be lame because I was thinking it would cost $85-100
The size is fine with me as there are only 5 of us, so I don't care if it isn't huge.

I'll admit that price does sound low for Yacht & Beach Club. You might just confirm that all the items will be 3D and not standing screen prints.

I am trying to get a Indiana jones cake too. I have emailed and left voicemails at Floridian and haven't heard anything. I'm going to try and call her again tomorrow. First I called Poly and they gave me a phone number and email of someone named Pat.

She is the Private Dining contact who takes custom cake orders. She may be on vacation or off on these days. How soon do you need it?

Do you have a photo of the boba cake? We will be there next weekend for SWW for my DH birthday and trying to decide on cake to order. I'm wanting mini or 6 inch.

I'd love to see the Boba Fett cake too!! I want to do a star wars cake for our trip in October.

Her cake was a 10" with a screen print of Boba Fett. (She sent me a photo in a PM)BobaFettCake.JPG

I have talked to the Contemporary and Magic Kingdom cakes about a Boba Fett cake (I also wanted a 6"). They insisted they could not do one and did not have the rights to all Star Wars characters, including Fett. (I wanted the cake decorated like his helmet.) They also ignored me when I showed them the photo of the cake above. So I settled for the Chewy Cake.

I do! I'll PM you the photo. :)

Thanks for posting a picture! I wonder why? Maybe the chef got in trouble for making that. These star wars cakes seem more trouble.....I think I might be switching my idea to pirate mickey. My ideas (my sons favorites) are star wars (any character but darth vadar - he doesn't like him as much. he likes r2d2 and the ewoks best), jack skellington, wall-e and pirates. Pirates seem to be the only doable. I think someone else got shot down asking for a jack skellington theme.

I had asked about a Nightmare before Christmas theme - (one layer decorated like Jack (pinstripes) and one like Sally (Patchwork) ) with a sculpted mountain with moon on top. They'd need to do a 6" and 8" cake for that and it would cost $240. With 6" 1 layer and a mountain it would cost $149. They have done cakes with Jack's face on top though.

They sent me this photo as something they could do for Jack:

Now that is so weird, when I ordered my cake from Y&B private dining they told me 6in was NOT an option! (and I was prepared to go with plain chocolate or plain vanilla! lol) My 2D decoration I believe is going to cost me $30 - truly, I didn't write it down, I just asked for under $100, and I wanted 6in because there are 3 of us! :confused3 I believe it ended up being $65, but I'm sure thats not including the delivery and tax charge that Lurkyloo confirmed was going to cost us.

SO, now I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and have it delivered to a restaurant? (the choices at Y&BC are limiting)

(and good for you thinking Indiana Jones! I gave up and went with Stitch!)

So odd that they won't do the cake this year! I wonder why? Such a bummer, though. :(

LOL I had two different people RECOMMEND the 6inch. Honestly, I was willing to do an 8 inch. I'm still debating if I care. I wanted a 6 inch because there are 5 of us (but 2 of us are toddlers). I would have spent around $100. When she told me $65, I had her confirm there would be candy/fondant decorations like a hat, whip, etc.
I'm not sure whether I should be a pain about it and ask to send inspiration picture OR if I should just not worry about it and be happy for my savings and buy something else with the other $35. I mean it won't be as cool if it is just a cake with a screen print of Indiana Jones, but at $65 as long as it tastes good and it's "fun," I think I'll be okay.

Oooohh!! Thanks!!! I love that Jack Skellington cake! Did they happen to say how much that one would cost?

The person I ordered with said I could call back and make changes - so I thought I would call back to confirm the order, and just see if I didn't make any mistakes, and maybe change to have it delivered to Yacht Club Grille Restaurant - still debating tho. I also asked if they would decorate the sides of the cake - Chef's choice would be great, throw some candy on it, etc and she said she'd note it on the ticket

but like everyone else, the process makes us "over planners' (? hate that title!) a bit nervous!

I'm thinking something like $100-115. The 1 tier $149 cake would have had that design but with sculpted chocolate like the mountain. Probably $100 for just the cake, and it seems they charge $15 for the white chocolate screen prints?

Thanks Felipe4! My budget is around $100 so that could work!

I was told tonight when I called that they really can't do Indiana jones because if rights and the best they can do is a mini cake 3" with rope on it and gold coins for $80. I really want a hat on it. :(

Now I'm wondering if I should call back and just do a Mickey chocolate ganache cake. Why would my 6 inch be less than a mini cake and why wouldn't they tell me about the hat?
And how is a brown Fedora copyrighted/trademarked anyhow?

That's what I don't understand, I don't get why they can't make a hat. I thought $80 was steep for a mini with a rope and coins. I have not called back to finalize it. I asked if I could think on it.

Glad I came here first. I sent a sketch and a detailed description asking for an estimate. Got a one line reply. What is your budget? If I hadnt read through all these posts I wouldnt have known what to expect. Let's see what happens now.....

Nooooooooo! You gotta keep it so we can all see how it turns out, and then @Teamanderson can show them your photo and say, "See! You *can* do an Indy cake!" :hyper:

Ok, so I'm a bit hesitant about ordering a cake this year. I ordered a cake as always from the the contemporary and always worked with Brian. They have always been wonderful. This time we didn't work with him, not my choice. I ordered a 6" in buttercream w/ vanilla cake and vanilla buttercream in a Star Wars theme. I was told they could do 8" and to pick which star wars character I would like in 2D. The price was quoted at $65. I thought that sounded about right b/c we got a 6" haunted mansion cake a few yrs ago for about that price. I said they could do what they wanted, but I wanted Star Wars and buttercream (to keep the cost down). Then I got this that you see. Umm, it's a straight up NOT costume cake w/ a topper and some plain white stars on it. Not sure why this cost so much and it was kind of dry. To make matters worse I paid closer to $90 for it. We had to cancel our reservation and instead of telling me I could just pick it up at the restaurant, it was delivered to our room for all that extra charge. The pink fondant covered prince cake that was just posted a page or 2 back was so nice and the same price. I really want to try again b/c all of our other experiences have been great. I would like to order a 6" cake w/ a tropical feel w/ maybe the light up castle. It's our 15 yr anniversary and we were married at the Polynesian w/ the castle across the lake. I'm afraid they'll want arm and leg if I go in w/ that compared to what I got last year! Can I really just pick it up at a restaurant in the Contemporary? I would prefer that since I think we are canceling our Chef Mickey's reservation.2014cake.jpg

Just back from a wonderful trip to Animal Kingdom Lodge. I had asked chef Amanda for a 6" Lion King or Animal Kingdom looking cake. This was a 6"almond cake, with chocolate mousse filling, and fondant. I was quoted $40 ($53 after delivery / tax / tip). The cake was good and moist, and delivered to our room the first day. I only wish they would have left a box, or some wrap to properly wrap up the cake that was still remaining. IMAG1767.jpg

Wow... that is not a $90 cake.... I'd probably talk to someone about that and see if I could get some money back. And for your next cake, you should be able to have them send it to the Wave for you to pick up.
