Official DIS "Change O' Life" Ladies Thread

I threw a temper tantrum on my B'day b/c my husband did not get me what I wanted!!!!! THAT is not me! I take whatever I get smile and say how much I love it( no matter how disgusting). My poor husband and son are still staring at me!! It was like I was having an outer body experience.

I hate the fat too. I could take off weight like no one's business but not now I have to sweat blood just to lose a pound.

luvFlorida,
I have the travel urge too...have been sulking for months because have nothing booked before August...this past year or so have needed a vacation about every 4 months.

I also have the unpredictable "it"...it was bad enough when I had an idea when "it" would arrive...now I get lovely surprises !! And I'm stupid about the whole thing...I'll be totally baffled about bloat, raging hunger, bad skin, cramps, etc...then "it" will arrive...and every single time I'm like "oh, no wonder"...you'd think after 30 years I'd pick up on the clues.

I'm 43 so haven't experienced any other signs.

I have many days like that. 50 year old with raging hormones, 14 year old daughter with raging hormones. Some days both of us can be so irrational it's scary!

Yep, so true. Here I'm 48, have 2 DD's one 12 who cries at the drop of a hat, one 10 who is just starting all the crazy hormonal behavior, and DS is turning 16 and wants me to teach him to drive??!! LOL

Poor DH and DS living with all these wacked out females.. :rotfl:

Ok.....now that I see these other posts.....things are starting to make sense! I am occasionally moody, I could occasionally kill, and I frequently want to travel to some other place than where I am now....some place warm!! :teeth:

I didn't get it! I wondered what was wrong with me!! I got so mad at my DH on Saturday that it carried over into Sunday! He did not come near me either day (perhaps he is getting used to me???) My two teen sons look at me like I have 2 heads when I get mad.....I mean, that once in awhile, out-of-body-experience mad!!!

I could not figure out what was going on with me with all this stuff! I try to control all of it and it just takes over!! And, worse, I only take it out on my family....the ones who are closest to me! :guilty:

Now I know...
Why you shoud have your kids in your 20's and not your 30's. Your Menaposal and your teen is hormonal :earseek:

When I went for my annual in January I had just come off of a three month stint without a period. My doctor said that if I went six months without one, then I was through menopause. I don't trust that though. I've always heard that you have to go at least a year.

My mother went through menopause when she was 51. I'm 47 so I'm looking forward to that age. Last fall from September through the middle of December I went through all the hot flashes and night sweats. In December they went away and my periods came back. They're not too irregular but last for about two weeks now. They can be extremely heavy sometimes. My doctor said that if I could just hold on......

At least I'm not having severe mood swings. I am a little on edge at times but I realize what I'm doing and can keep it under control. I get depressed some also but I can handle it too.

So this is where the non-interest comes from?????

Yep, that's where the non-interest comes from. I went thru menopause while I was pregnant at age 43. Didn't know it at the time, but found out a year after my dd was born. Things were just not going back to normal. Dr. took blood tests and told me I was completely normal for a woman who was thru the change!!! Went on HRT but 4 yrs later when my mom found she had breast cancer, I came off the HRT. Then the mood swings really started and the 'interest' left!!! Hot flashes coming and going...up all night in the bathroom, not sleeping with a 'sleep-aid'. Thank heaven I have a wonderful dh who understands the whole non-interest issue and doesn't make huge demands. And I haven't found anything, to date, that will change me into an 'interested wife'. Anyone out there with the same issue and been able to do something about it??

Sorry, I've got the opposite problem. Seems like I'm ALWAYS interested!!!

Most of my friends my age sound like you, goofy4tink. I must be weird.

I started experiencing perimenopause symptoms about a year and a half ago (I'm 41). My ob/gyn had a perfect solution-a Mirena, an IUD that all but stops the monthly visitor. I might have a very short, light visit for a day or so, but that's it!

I have not found a solution for the non-interest though. I'm sure my hubby wish I would!

Sadly, I have realized that I will need to exercise and eat sensibly to make it through this. Before, I was a big carb lover, eating candy and drinking soda and in my 20's I was still skinny as a rail. Not anymore!

::yes:: I am slowing coming out of denial about this one...**sigh**

Uggg I am going through this now! I am 42 and have been having irregular periods for months some would last 9 days, others 3....went to the Dr and he did a D&C, bled a couple days and then was good for a few weeks....well now I have been bleeding for about 30 darn days! I go to the gyn Wednesday, my regular Dr did bloodwork and said I am anemic but offered nothing other than to follow up with my gyn (I am in the process of now changing regular Drs since I hate the ones I have now)....I am tired all the time, leg cramps, hot flashes....this is NOT fun!! Plus they put me on the pill which I have not taken in 22 years and I am not liking having to take it.....and it is NOT helping me with the bleeding anyway!!

For the past two years, I was going through what I thought was early menopause....hot flashes, nights sweats, irregular heavy periods, migraines, major mood issues, etc.... :earseek:

I'm only 37, but my mom went through the same thing and ended up getting a hysterectomy (for that and other problems). My doctor and I were talking about doing a hysterectomy, but she wanted to put me on hormones first to see if that helped (along with some wellbutrin which totally helped the mood swings. :teeth: ). You know what happened when I went on the hormones? I got pregnant! :earseek: My DH and I are laughing now. :rotfl: I guess I don't need a hysterectomy now! :sunny:

I'm sure that I will be joining you ladies on this thread after the baby comes though. It should be interesting! :teeth:

Carry on....... :goodvibes

Grandma Bear, I gotta ask: did you really join the Dis last month and already have nearly 1500 posts?? :earseek:

Does "starting early" have any bearing on whether you will go through menopause early? I was only 11 and it makes me wonder.

I'm 36 and recently, I have been a couple of days later than normal each month. I am on BC and used to start about 2 days after finishing my last week of pills. Now it's 5 or 6 days and I'm wondering if something is starting to happen? When it's always been like clockwork... it's noticeable when there's a slight change. Is there a point at which my dr will want me to come off BC? I have been on it for 17 years now without any breaks.

I'm also not sure that I don't want another child. I'd like more time to decide :(

Count me in. I'm 46 and have been having symptoms for the past year. Night sweats, sleeplessness, extremely moody and depressed too. There are days when everyone just needs to leave me alone....literally.

I can't wait for "it" to be done. I would say for the past 2 years I have been increasingly resentful that I have to go through it every month. I never used to mind having "it" so much.

I want to know how come we need a medical reason to get rid of our uteruses (uteri maybe? LOL). Dammit....I'm done with mine can't I leave it at the curb with the trash?

I don't think Starting early has anything to do with it. That is what I've been told. I started at 8 and still have it at 53 but I am going through changes now. I don't get it for months at a time and then it shows up. Dr. told me I am normal according to my blood work. He also said 1 year is the timeframe for it to be stopped for it to be over.

Morning All!!

Would love to join this club!! :Pinkbounc

I am 49 years old and have been perimenopausal for more years than I care to remember. Doctor tells me I have a few more years to go

Currently I am on a low dosage birth control pill that keeps me in check emotionally and physically. The "claws" still come out every month but for the most part I can control it. I just warn the family when they should run and HIDE :rotfl: When I am not irritable I tend to cry (very easily).......or I am laughing...........but again I can usually control it.

Physically I am really stuggling to get weight off...........wow wish I had believed them back in my 20's......thought I never had to exercise.

Is anyone else using a birth control pill to manage the effects.

Have not started the irregular months - just ALOT less when it comes........

Thanks for this thread.... I know I am not alone.

Have a magical Disney Day!!

You should talk to your doctor about this one. I know, in the '70's and '80's, BC pills were 'stronger' than they really needed to be and they are 'lighter' now. They used to say you needed to get off once in awhile to give your body a 'break'....I don't know what the thinking is now. So, educating yourself about the situation is due! :teeth: You should also find out how long it would be best to be off the BC pills before getting pregnant.....what other BC method you want to use before planning for baby!

I am obsessed with planning! I was 32 and 36 when I had my sons (second marriage). I used a Basel thermometer to detect ovulation so I could stay off chemical BC to prevent getting pregnant until chemicals had cleared from my body and then used it to detect ovulation to get pregnant both times! I also got a measles booster, as measles was going around the state at the time, to reduce the risk of getting measles while pregnant ~ and you have to wait a certain time before getting pregnant after that booster.....Planning Obsessed!! :confused3
