Official Dancing With the Stars, season 16 thread

I don't think it's fair when they put a ringer in there. Zendaya is a trained dancer on a show about professional dancers. Yes, ballroom is different, but she has the fundamentals, and the experience memorizing routines quickly.

Aly, as a gymnast, has had some dance experience so that will help her too. But not as much as Zendaya.

In the Gymnastics world, Aly isn't considered a dancer, at all. She's greatly criticized for her lack of "artistry". I hope she can improve!

Commenting without reading what everyone else says...

1. I only knew 5 of the "stars": Wynonna Judd, Zendaya Coleman, Jacoby Jones, Aly Raisman & Dorothy Hamill. I know of Victor Ortiz but I have no clue about the other 5.

2. Poor Tony. No winner this year, but plenty of whiner I'm sure!

3. Poor us. Mark pulled the gymnast. His dances are going to look like more of a cheer competition than a dance competition.

I agree. She is not a "dancey" gymnast. But someone, somewhere tried to teach her, which could theoretically give her an advantage.

Not a bad cast, should be some entertaining routines, and some entertainment behind the scenes.

Wondering if Kellie Pickler has any dance ability at all, and surprised to see Derek. But pleased!

The Disney girl looked taller than Val, that should be interesting. She's only 16, Val will need to keep his shirt on.

And I have to admire Dorothy Hamill's guts. She's 56, has had joint replacements, has arthritis, has battled depression, and is a breast cancer survivor. She still skates, so hopefully this will not be too hard. But I do see why her partner is patient, sweet Tristan.

I so hope that Tony does not try to pick up Wynona. And I've seen rumors that Mak's absence was not his choice. Oh, and I saw the Bachelor rumor too.

I guess his brother-in-law-to-be, Ryan Seacrest, couldn't rustle him up a reality show or acting gig.

I doubt it was really about an injury. He just wanted to follow in Julianne's footsteps.

Dorothy Hamill had ballet years ago when she was competing. She had said that it builds up different muscles than skating. Hopefully that will help her.

Jane Seymour had ballet training too, and she was able to make it quite far. But, being older, she couldn't out do the younger competitors. I think Dorothy may have the same fate.

I wonder if Wynona will be the Kirstie Alley of this season? (I mean that in a nice way!) I loved Wy's statement on GMA this morning when she told Tom her reason for changing her mind and finally agreeing to the show (they've been asking her for 6 years)..........

She said "I am hoping to get back to my original weight of 8 lbs 15 ozs"!!!


Still, I am worried for Tony.

I'm surprised he didn't get a better dancer since he WON last season. The producers act as though it hadn't happened.

. . . Although, it could be that Wynonna wanted him because he won, and Maks is gone this season. I think she is the most recognizable "star" this season, so she probably had first choice.

Ugh! Not again!!! We'll see a rehash of all the dances he did with Shawn.

At least not so much shimmying this season then!

I'm going to state a few facts right now, so we can be clear that I am in the minority and I know it. And it is all in fun, so I don't care anyhow.

I like Mark. And I like Derek. And I MUCH prefer dances that are athletic with tricks and flips and gymnastics-style moves. That's why freestyle nights are always my favorite nights, and I much prefer Latin-style over Ballroom.

SO. Aly and Mark are my picks this season, and will be getting my personal votes.

Also, I am dreading watching Wynonna dance. Something about that woman is SO off-putting to me. Maybe it's the eyebrows...

Anyhow, to each their own, that's what makes it fun, right? But the Mark-bashing (and the smaller amount of Derek-bashing) will NOT be universal on this thread - I gotta stick up for my boys.

PS: I adored Shawn too... she got all of my votes on both of her seasons.

I like this cast (mostly). I'm excite to see Aly and Mark. I like most of the "Stars." Should be a fun season to watch.

They had me at Ingo Rademacher!!! He is SUCH a hottie!!! *swoon* I have had a crush on him since I was 17!!!! I think I will actually watch! Though I am sad to see Andy Dick on there. Here is hoping he stays sober and goes home at the end of the first week.

I haven't watched in years because I got so disenfranchised about the fact that it was supposed to be a show about dancing ability, but wound up being a show based upon popularity. They will get me to tune in this season just for Ingo Rademacher. I was lucky enough to meet him once and he is as beautiful a person on the inside as he is on the outside!
