Alek and Lindsay are doing Jailhouse Rock.
Alexa and Mark are doing I'm a Slave For You (I didn't know that was considered iconic).
Andy and Allison are doing Good Mornin' from Singing In the Rain.
Carlos and Whitney are dancing to Pony from Magic Mike.
Hayes and Emma have You're the One That I Want from Grease.
Nick and Sharna have You Should Be Dancing from Saturday Night Fever.
Paula and Louis are going to Vogue.
Tamar and Val have Rythmn Nation (another that I didn't realize was considered iconic).

I'm a Slave 4 U peaked at 27th on the Billboard 100 and I have never heard the song before I googled it. It did make #4 in the UK, so perhaps the producers are British? At least Rhythm Nation made it all the way up to #2 *and* I've heard it before! But yeah, I don't consider either one to be "iconic".

Which one? I'm a Slave For You came out when I was in high school but I don't really remember the dance being that big of a deal. I don't remember the Janet Jackson song at all.

Yes slave. I was in jr high I think I'd have to see the year. I think that's better then what Carlos has that's for sure.

Agree that Carlos doesn't seem to have a very good one. As a big fan of Singing In the Rain I'm a little disappointed that Andy and Allison got that. I was hoping a pro who was a big more... accomplished would have gotten that one.

Agreed! I feel for Andy. Sharna is apparently disco trained so I'll be curious to see how creative she gets.

I think the producers picked these two dances, not because they are iconic, but because theses two stars are of the most conservative of the group. The producers are probably hoping for some drama during the rehearsals.

If Tamar had gotten "Slave" she wouldn't have batted an eye. Not saying she's slutty or anything, but she's probably not uncomfortable doing a very sexy dance.


I think Rhythm Nation was picked more because it was the a dance Janet did that was the closest to brother's Michael style than anything else she's done. Someone did Thriller (which IS iconic) last season or the season before so the show couldn't do that one again.

Lifts are allowed during certain dances, like contemporary & jazz. So, I doubt that she "missed" the lifts, as she's quite OCD on the seeing them in the dances that do NOT allow any lifts.

Yup. Gotta stir up that conservative Christian drama for good ratings. FWIW, I don't think Pony is at all iconic either. That's one nasty little song .

I'm a Slave 4 U is the Spears song, Rhythm Nation is the Jackson song. Interesting factoid, Slave was offered to Jackson but she declined.
