Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

Something just struck my DH and I...

What doctor in NY is going to order a blood panel including Dengue Fever???

"OK...let's order the usual CBC, tox screen, drug panel, Ebola, Dengue Fever."

We used to love this show, but I think we're done.

Lanie asked the doctor to do that, after Kate asked her.

Well, at least he didn't wake up in the hospital, look at Kate and say, "Who are you?" They didn't quite go that far down the cheesy-soap-road, but it was close. I'll give it a couple more episodes, but I might finally be done.

It feels like there's a shark in the water, circling, and they're just revving up the boat and getting the ramp in place to jump it.

Well, that was ... interesting. I sat there and said to myself, OK, that was a very impressive drama class exercise. Lousy entertainment, really, but as a staging exercise, rather well done.

I think it was actually what it was meant to be, a showrunner audition of sorts for Amann. It was like an exam question: "You are the producer of a long-running television series. Your characters have gone down a dead end that may lead to ratings fatigue. Create a story arc that gives you leeway to back them out of the corner and restore tension to the ensemble."

Problem is, in real life very few people actually wanted them backed out of that corner, and I'm pretty sure that the actors thought the script itself was ridiculous. Fillion, especially, appeared to be phoning in his performance. it was obvious that they just were not having the kind of fun that they usually have making this show.

What I've been saying for awhile now is that Castle needs to get back to it's style roots. Castle and Beckett can love one another and even be married, but they have to keep bickering, and for God's sake, give Castle his mojo back. Give back his own friends, and his charming but defensive snark with people he doesn't know, and his loopy research exercises, like having Alexis tie him to a chair and leave. He has been turned entirely into Beckett's tame sidekick, and that is getting darned dull.

I was disappointed last night. I think there may be trouble ahead because they're up against Blacklist and this year, NCIS, Los Angeles. I may be watching NCIS next week.

I didn't love the episode either. I think they can do the fun mysteries and cases with Castle and Beckett married. Why didn't she mention the key to Castle or the Dengue fever or the healed bullet wound?

No mention of Sen Bracken and a passing mention of 3xk. Why not contact Castle's spy father? So many plot holes that I hope will be cleared up.

I guessed you missed that Kate mentioned Bracken first. And they mentioned 3XK more than once. But the evidence they had didn't point to them, it pointed to Rick doing this himself. As to the other points, we're going to find out more in the next episode, and it may continue for a while. If you remember, we got the story of Kate's mom's murder in bits and pieces too. He 'profiled' Kate in episode 1, but we didn't hear the story until episode 5. We found out more in episode 10, and on and on. So they're not giving everything up in an episode.

And they have said over and over they are getting married this year. I know a lot of people really thought it was going to happen in that last episode but I was never convinced. (for a few goofy reasons - one being that Scott Paulin, who plays Kate's dad, was never mentioned as being in the cast.) I hoped I was wrong but.....

And a little something I posted a few days ago may have given away whether they are getting married sooner rather than later.

For us, too, the rearranging of shows is bringing the recorder into play. I had to record Castle and DH hasn't seen it yet. If it doesn't get better than that (the other night) they will lose DH. I will hang in a little longer and hope for better.

I was disappointed in Monday's episode. I guess I've got high expectations of "Castle". I fully expected Castle not to recognize Beckett when she walked into his hospital room, but I'm glad they didn't take it that far.

I feel kind of like I waited for fireworks that didn't happen. You know, you light the fuse, watch it burn down, and you're waiting-not really even breathing-for the explosion and then...nothing.

ETA: I was glad that they didn't immediately time-jump ahead 2-3 months, and we actually got to see what happened right after Beckett got to the crash site.

I never heard anything about Bracken and I was looking for that. I did hear the 3XK doppleganger discussion but thought it was dropped really quickly.

I'll be honest, my least favorite part of the show are these long term mysteries. Her mothers murder, 3XK, Bracken, Castle's dad.

I know they weren't going to give it all up and solve it in one episode but there was just SO little. I'll be irritated and probably give up if this drags on all season. I like the campy fun. I like when Nathan gets to be silly.

The Bracken and 3XK references were part of the scene with Esposito bringing her the coffee.

That scene had a continuity error in it, too. Kate picked up a fairly thick file on 3XK with Tyson's mugshot on the cover, but all of those files were supposedly stolen, including the electronic backups. Did she write the whole file herself from memory or something?

I saw the scene. I remember them talking about 3Xk for like a nano second. I just thought both possibilities were discounted too quickly for my tastes. Bracken was so quick I didn't even hear it. There was a passing mention of Castle's dad but you would think he'd be contacted since he's like a CIA agent.

I just didn't like the episode. Sorry.

It just seemed out of character for me.

No need to apologize to me ... I didn't much like it, either. ;)

I think that the decision to release a sneak the very next morning indicates that the network is well aware that the ep. was weak. Normally you don't get a official sneak until Thursday.

I will say that not contacting Castle's father wasn't an issue for me; that feeling came from other plot points (or lack thereof). All indications from his past appearances give the impression that no one knows how to contact Castle's father, except perhaps his Paris handler, and only Castle knew who that was. Of course, Dad probably did hear about the situation in the press, but presumably was not in position to surface at that time ... at least not that we currently know of.
