Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

Well, none of the 3XK episodes have ended with a happy scene, but that one was the most chilling yet.

As to the computer, I'm sure Rick used a computer he didn't care about.

Lots of speculation on the internet about that episode. Some of it is pretty interesting too.

My question is, is there something about that song in particular that meant something to Kate? I can't remember it turning up in a previous context, but I haven't gone back to search, so please, someone refresh my memory if there is a context I'm missing here.

The reaction Kate had seemed more than just a realization that Castle was right and Jerry was probably alive; she looked terrified, and she has never actually been afraid of the man before -- furious with and frustrated by, yes, but not afraid of him, even when he went after Castle.

I don't buy that the night watchman killed Pam. There was no one else in the area, so why go to all the trouble of speaking to the corpse for so long to warn her off? The man was being paid off in some sort of way by Jerry, that much is clear, but I don't think that he knew what the greater plan was until after he found her body. (Which makes sense if you think about it; too much chance that he might turn on Jerry and turn informant if he knew the plan before all the evidence was in place to make him a viable suspect.)

I agree on the laptop; I think it was an old spare. There were only about 3 icons on the screen, which made it look like it wasn't being actively used.

They have never mentioned the song before. I've read some speculation:
1. played at her mom's funeral
2. a favorite song of her mom & dad
3. a connection to the end of Dr. Strangelove (I've never seen it, so I have no idea how true that is)

Yes, it is the end theme of Dr. Strangelove, but even though Kate is a movie buff, I just can't see 3XK threatening global mutual destruction -- who would be left to kill? That can't be what caused her to stand there shaking like that.

If I had to accept one of those ideas, I'd say it has something to do with her mom. To inspire that much fear, though, it would have to have been something that she has never told anyone about; something like Lanie's tattoo. Castle didn't seem to react so much to the song itself as to her reaction to the song, so I don't think it is something that is special to the two of them. Or, here's a thought, her father's favorite song -- something that would indicate that Jerry is stalking her Dad. (The prospect of having her father murdered as well would definitely terrify her.)

(BTW, I thought the roofie scenario w/ Lanie was overkill; a woman could just as well have caught a surreptitious photo of it at a gym, or more typically for a stalker, he could have put a hidden camera in her home. Besides that, what doctor would have an experience like that and fail to drug-test herself, especially after only 2 drinks? :confused3)

More speculation:

1. It's not Tyson at all, but Bracken.
2. The doctor is really Tyson with some plastic surgery
3. The homeless guy that Carl moves along in the opening scene is really Tyson
4. Carl is Tyson with plastic surgery

I'd say a LOT of plastic surgery, LOL.

I did think that the homeless man was possibly Tyson, there to see if his guy was doing what he was supposed to do.

One of the more ridiculous theories that I've seen is that Tyson might have plastic surgery to make himself look like Castle, and then take Castle hostage so that he can take his place with Beckett. I don't think so: not only has Tyson already done a Castle frame-up, but unless Luke Reichle can do miracles with elevator shoes, it would be a pretty neat trick to make the 5'10" Michael Mosley stand up equal to the 6'2" Nathan Fillion. (Not to mention that Kate would know immediately the minute she touched him; plastic surgery cannot fool a lover.)

Also, with the Carl=Tyson theory, again the height gets in the way. Wm. Mapother is 6'1" (I guess he got the tall gene in the Mapother family, a big contrast to Tom Cruise, which is why he never could function as Cruise's stand-in, even though they look very much alike when their hair is styled identically.)

As to the Bracken theory, all I can think of to say is, what was that person smoking?

I like the homeless man theory. Why else would he be in the show?

And someone mentioned the homeless guy was in another scene. I don't know if that's true, but I plan to watch on the HD TV soon.

Looks like it will be very funny (I'm wondering if they will have another BF joke in there. Based on Lanie's comment, they are giving formula to a BF baby, and that tends to make for a bit of misery on everyone's part).. However, I'm sensing that we are in for another round of angsty-Kate, and that really doesn't appeal to me so much. The woman over-thinks EVERYTHING <sigh>

Poor Ryan -- I think he has always admired what a good dad Castle is, and he is determined to be that kind of dad, too. (I know he can do it -- eventually.)

As to Kate's attitude about the baby, no worries. There are many women in the world, me included, who don't get gushy or always want to hold other people's babies. My own kids, absolutely, but I love them; babies in general don't do it for me so much. The trick for people like us is to marry SuperDad if all all possible -- let me tell you, it takes the pressure off.

PS: An interesting question is, did Rick volunteer to babysit with a vague idea of testing Kate's reaction in the back of his mind, or was it just that he couldn't resist getting his mitts on a cute baby for a bit of nostalgia now that his own baby has left the nest?

Well, this won't be a "happy recap" (as the late great Bob Murphy would say after the Mets won a game) but all in all, Disciple was a really good episode.

There were a few lighthearted moments:

the breakfast scene between Rick & Kate & the discussion of the honeymoon:
"Castle, are you using our honeymoon as an excuse to go and tour Middle Earth?" (after he mentions New Zealand)

and Rick to Kate:
"I love when you get angry. I mean at other people, besides me."

(which is kind of an echo of something he said to her in Season 4, Once Upon A Crime - "You're cute when you're angry. But not when you're angry at me.")

and then right before he brings up 3XK:
Beckett: "Since when do you ask for permission?"
Castle: "Touche."

and when they first talk to the plastic surgeon:
Dr. Nieman: "Can I just say you have an amazing face, detective?"
Castle: "And what about my face?"
Dr. Nieman: "Uh. amazing potential."

Carl: "You broke three of my ribs."
Castle: "I'm sorry, I was going for double digits."

and then a few more serious moments:
Lanie: "What if this is just the beginning?"
Espo: "It's going to be okay, I promise. I'm not going to let anything happen to you.
Lanie: "What if something happens to you?

Espo, to Ryan after Ryan is trying to get Espo to say how he feels:
"All right, fine. I want to find this piece of garbage, string him up and see how he likes it. There, I shared a feeling. Happy now?"

Beckett: "Nobody could survive that fall."
Castle: "Jerry Tyson could."

Beckett: "When Tyson escaped, he outsmarted all of us, but you've always blamed yourself."
Castle: "Because I'm to blame!"

I haven't had a chance to rewatch so I can't confirm if the homeless guy shows up again in the episode.

I have no problem believing that Carl did both murders, even if he did overdo it at the beginning.

I also have a feeling that Kelly & Tyson have been working together for a while. There's a part of me that wonders if she's the alpha in their relationship. Doesn't happen often, but female serial killers do exist. She gave off a creepy vibe from the beginning - I really thought she was the killer.

My thoughts on the song/ending/the look on Kate's face? Well, I keep changing my mind. First I thought the song had something to do with her mom. Then I thought it was nothing more than a creepy message to them. But then I thought it might be a message to her. Maybe when she was recovering after being shot (remember she spent months in her dad's cabin, cut off from everyone) she may have listened to that song or even that Dr. Strangelove is one of her favorite movies and she watched it while staying there. But whatever it was, she may have been alone when she did it and has never shared that with anyone. So it's a bit scary that he/she/they used it. And yeah, Kate's a badass detective who's not afraid of anyone, but things are different now. She's engaged, she's becoming part of a family, she may be thinking of having kids, and the thought of Tyson coming after her and killing her isn't so easily brushed aside. Plus it's possible that her PTSD kicked in. After all, Tyson framed Castle and she almost lost him last year.

No matter what, I have a feeling we won't know for a while what it meant. But that was a really good episode.

And I am really looking forward to next week's episode. It's the last new one of 2013.

I watched it again last night. I was so caught up in it I didn't notice if the homeless guy showed up again. And I think that Kate's reaction to the song isn't anything simple - she looked on the verge of a panic attack - it was intense.

And I forgot: the tattoo wasn't the only thing 'they' learned about when roofie-ing Lanie - they also found out about her hair products, makeup, nail polish, etc. And isn't cell phone picture taking frowned on in gyms? They may have been afraid of being caught doing it too. Tyson already did the cameras in the home thing so he/they may have been looking for something different. And I'm sure he/they loved the idea of getting close enough to drug her and the terror of that act can't be downplayed. And as to why she didn't drug test herself, why would she? She was home, nothing seemed wrong, and she probably just forgot about it later.
