Love the Monorail cake! So cute and it looks delish.
I'm so conflicted about what to do because I see pictures of a fantastic cake and be all, "YES! I'm ordering one!" then I read a not-so-great report and I'm all, "I'm saving my money" and the yo-yo'ing continues on and on

For us, the extras absolutely make the trip a little more special... Cake on a birthday is essential. Those nice restaurants are what make it vacation; we can eat CS type places at home. Relaxing in the hot tub, splurging on the wine pairing with dinner, sitting on the balcony enjoying the FL night.. All of that does make the trip more enjoyable than staying at a value and eating counter service IMO. And even if Pat shares your feeling that the cake situation is out of hand, that's no excuse for poor/rude service or to turn away customers willing to fork over their hard earned money for an expensive extra.
That cake above is extremely similar to the one we just had Sunday night and cost a whole lot more.
