Love the Monorail cake! So cute and it looks delish.

I'm so conflicted about what to do because I see pictures of a fantastic cake and be all, "YES! I'm ordering one!" then I read a not-so-great report and I'm all, "I'm saving my money" and the yo-yo'ing continues on and on .

After many calls and thread reading, I came to the decision of ordering a cake for my brother at the Boardwalk Bakery, picking it up after Illuminations on his birthday, going to downtown disney from there, and then boating back to POR lol!! Anyway, my brother will be 18, he LOVES Wall-E, plays guitar and loves 70s classic rock and has a secret obsession with Disney channel shows like Wizards of Waverly place. I'd love to incorporate a music theme to either Wall-E or Wizards, does anyone have experience with the Boardwalk and think they might be able to do this?

I love this monorail cake too. Has anyone tried to order just the monorail with no cake? It looks like it's teal. I wonder if they did that purposely because of monorail teal's debut, or if that's a coincidence.

Yes the roses were chocolate sugar paste - edible but super sweet (kind of tastes like tootsie roll).

I had gone back and forth - my dad ordered one for my birthday in June and it was good but not great - there was also only two of us and we were on the deluxe plan so much of it went to waste. This time we managed to enjoy the cake all week (no dining plan) instead of ordering dessert in the restaurants My only recommendation would be to have it delivered to a restaurant. I don't mind tipping but with having it delivered to the room, a $15 tip for plopping down a cake and 4 plates without a word, it seemed a little much.

The first thing I noticed was the Teal colour and pointed it out to my Dad that it was the new monorail colour. You can order just the monorail but the ones I've seen were plain white (not painted with colours).

This is just my opinion, but I think this cake thing is getting out of hand. We ordered a cake in Sept for our Anniversary. It was very pretty, but we did not eat but a couple of pieces. I won't do it again. It was from GF bakery. I think people are getting carried away with I HAVE TO HAVE A CAKE, and gift baskets and tours and Christmas parties, in order to have a great Disney trip experience. I know I did. On my next trip that I plan, I am going to just go with the flo, make only a couple of ADR's, enjoy the sites and things that are around me, and not worry about the extras. If I want a cake, I will go to MK bakery and get a cupcake. I will buy a bottle of wine from one of the countries and use paper cups to drink it out of. I am sure it will taste the same. I guess I have come to the conclusion that I can have just as much fun at Disney staying off site or at a value and eating counter service most of the time. We spent a lot on extras on our last trip, and I must admit that it did not make the trip any more special, it just cost a lot more.

To each their own. For us, the extras absolutely make the trip a little more special... Cake on a birthday is essential. Those nice restaurants are what make it vacation; we can eat CS type places at home. Relaxing in the hot tub, splurging on the wine pairing with dinner, sitting on the balcony enjoying the FL night.. All of that does make the trip more enjoyable than staying at a value and eating counter service IMO. And even if Pat shares your feeling that the cake situation is out of hand, that's no excuse for poor/rude service or to turn away customers willing to fork over their hard earned money for an expensive extra.

I need some HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are celebrating my daughter's 5th birthday in January and I wanted to do a custom cake for her but I don't know where to have it delivered??

Our ADRs are:

CRT - Lunch
1900 PF - Breakfast
Le Celier - Dinner
Teppen Edo - Dinner
Marrakesh - Dinner

I thought CRT or 1900 PF were my best bets, and I think from what I have seen and read that PF is really the one for custom cakes???

2nd thing I need help with is what I can get for about $50 that would feed 4 people? I think an 8", buttercream icing (pink) with some type of decoration? Any ideas???? She loves princesses, hannah montana, etc. I don't want a "Sugar screen print".

I ordered this one at 1900 Park Faire after seeing the one above with the pink fondant and all the flowers. It had Cinderella's slipper and flowers on top and was 8" yellow cake with white chocolate mousse filling and was $65.00 + tax & gratuity ($35.00 for the cake and $30.00 decorating fee)
It was delicious!!!

Hey! I'd really love a cake this trip and I'd like to get it on one of our first nights. I'm thinking of eating at Garden Grove to see Rafiki on Monday and wondered if anyone else has had a cake done there?

The pink cake picture is the same picture I emailed to Pat at GF. I told her I wanted it with white ganache instead of pink. It's such a beautiful cake. Everytime I saw it, it made me say "Ooohhh and Aaahhhh"

It came out to the table completely different. Marble ganache, 1 white frosting rose that was already colapsed, and the slipper had condensated so much that it was slimy. It was so ugly!

The cake is so bad, it was inedible not only because of an allergy to milk chocolate but the cake was so dry it crumble when cut. We called the manager and let them know how disorganized Pat was and how irresponsible she was at call backs that we got reimbursed for the cake. I just wasn't going to pay for that monstrosity.

I would have been so happy if it came out as ordered. I should have known by the way Pat was so wishy washy when we spoke that the order would be wrong.

I know that some have posted that they have had the Mickey head cake @ Chef Mickeys and that it was "like the ones at GF" as in the piping of the face... has anyone had one recently?

I was told yesterday that it would have a white choc disc as the face, would be a solid cake with no filling and no icing... I was beyond confused by this person.

I am not sure if it is a matter of "terms" or what because she also told me that the ears were not ganache they were like a fudge?

Why let the folks answer the phone if they dont have a clue what they are talking about? Why can folks not say "I am sorry, I dont know... let me ask."

Anywho- would love to hear about recent Mickey heads @ the CR. Thanks!

So Sorry for you. I had the same problem with PAt taking the order but she is only part of the problem what is going on with the bakery they need to find a way to actually have the cakes taste good. Canceled my order with the GF for nov and reordered at the CR. The whole process was like night and day from ordering at the GF. Too bad the GF can not get the cakes to taste decent and orders written down correctly. I am glad they reimbursed you.

Hhhmmm... Ok, trying to figure out why my cake is going to be $85? I ordered something very similar... 8" with red fondant, flowers and snowflakes in christmas colors and for it to say Happy Disney Holidays. I would think it would be $65 as well? Any thoughts?

This is what we had last November. This is the standard Mickey head cake at CM. It was $48.00 and was chocolate. You are right in saying we did not have a choice of filling. We either got a vanilla with vanilla icing cake or a choc/choc cake. It was REALLY good though!

Not only that, but I had to add the tip to that $100 bringing my total to $120. That cake above is extremely similar to the one we just had Sunday night and cost a whole lot more.

What cake choices (flavors, filllings, ect.) do you have if a cake is ordered at the CR? I was finally able to get a res. for Chef Mickeys and with all the discussion about the GF cakes as of late and not being very tasty I was thinking of switching where I order the cake from. Plus I still havn't heard back again from Pat.

Everyone in our group (7 of us) thought it tasted awful and didn't even finish the slice I cut them. We took it back to the Poly and never ate another bite.

I think I'll be calling Pat too to let her know I was unhappy with the outcome. DH still can't believe I paid $120 total including tip. The funny thing is, I almost ordered a Mickey head cake since people have said it tasted so good but thought I'd do something more special for my DD's b-day. Lesson learned, right?

Well then... according to this... your cake shouldve been somewhere around $80. If I was getting a 3D figure I would be ok with the $85 but I did not ask for one so who knows.
I hope my cake tastes ok. I ordered white cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. I have had the Mickey Head before so I wanted to do something different at a different restaurant.
And yes... I would definitely call Pat and complain.
