Official Cake Chatter Thread

The above poster is correct...the Mad Hatter cake is only done at the Grand Floridian. You must be eating at one of the GF restaurants to get it...they do not allow you to pick up cakes. Last I heard the Mad Hatter cake was going for about $160 so it's definitely pricey. It's also huge so if it's just the two of you there would be a whole lot of leftovers. Check out the "Cake Chatters" thread for more info on what cakes are available and pricing information.

As for breakfast in the castle, you'll want to get on that ASAP. It tends to book up well in advance and reservations have been open for your date for about a month now. Keep in mind that this breakfast is a character meal with the Disney princesses.

I had called Narcoossee's direct line a couple of days ago. I was debating about a cake. So the phone rings today and it is WDW. She says so you are trying for a reservation for Sept. 22? No, we have a reservation, I was just wondering if you still do the menus for an Anniversary. She said yes. They do them automatically. So we got that set up and I asked if they do anything special or should I order a small cake. She said she could help me with that. I said I thought I had to talk to a Pat, and she said that was her. So I don't know if she does all the stuff for Narcoossee's or all the GF restaurants. But I would give her a call. We went last year and nothing was done, so I don't know if I had not told them it was our Anniversary last year,or it just got over looked. I wanted to make sure it was done this year. I am excited about the cake. and the menu's. They will just add the cake to our bill.:cool1::yay:When I called it said 1900 Park Fare. So I checked my number and they are all the same. So leave a message as to what resturant you are talking about.407-8242978

Wife and I are coming down for MNSSHP as well as wifes BDAY...wondering how to order Mad Hatter Cake and have it sent to Mama Melrses and how much $$$$$....also heard a rumor you can arrange Breakfast in Castle...wife would love that on BDay...how to do it...thanks in advance for all info...only 59 days....to our 2nd ever trip to WDW...first was in 2007 and we were mid 50's...:goodvibes

Just wanted to say hi from another local Diser!!! Have a great trip!!

Just ordered my daughter's 4th Birthday celebration cake for Chef Mickey's...easy as pie (or cake) to order. Can't wait to see it, now lets hope she doesn't change her mind 20 more times about what kind of cake she wants ;)

8" Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Buttercream tinted Purple
Ariel Screened on White Chololate
TONS of Sprinkles (she would eat them for dinner if we let her)
$57

I'll post pictures when we get back...mid-Sept.
I sure hope you get exactly what you want!

I had issues with Chef Mickey's. I ordered a white cake, white buttercream frosting, with Snow White screen printed on white chocolate. I was very specific in stating that I did not want an edible image, and asked several times if they were sure they could do the white chocolate screen print like the GF Bakery. I was assured they could. The cake was supposed to say "Happy Birthday Emilee."

I got an edible image. It was of Snow White, but she was 'cropped' out of an image of all the princesses and you could see bits and pieces of the other princesses around the edges (like an arm, or part of a face). There was also no Happy Birthday written on the cake or the cake board.

It was pretty, but it wasn't what I ordered. :headache:

DD wants to celebrate her birthday at Chef Mickey's again, but I'm hesitant to order another cake from them. I don't like edible images, not the look but the texture. I can scrape it off my piece if I have to, but I'd rather get what I order.

ETA: My cake was from two years ago, so it could have changed and maybe the do have the screen printed white chocolate now, or maybe the person who took my order was clueless and they had it even then.

That cake with the sparkle Mickey head is fantastic!

I also wanted to thank everyone for their great advice on this thread and I hope in about a month to have my own pictures to post. We have a cake being delivered to the room at the CR with a monorail theme...Sally and Cakemanbri were a great help. Pat at the GF was also a big help as I ordered a mad hatter "over the hill" cake and I can't wait to see what they come up with.

tarheelmjfan - if it makes you feel any better, I share your opinion of Epcot cakes. I've had their podium cake and a special-event sheet cake, and.... :(

I'm glad I'm not alone. I hate to be a downer, but I definitely wouldn't order a cake from them again or recommend anyone I know to do so. Ours gave me flashbacks of my Easy Bake Oven masterpieces. ;) It was by far the worst cake my DS has had in 17 yrs of birthdays. Honestly, they should be embarrassed to serve a cake like we got. The frozen Pepperidge Farms cakes are better. I hate sharing our experience, because it sounds like I'm exaggerating & being too critical. I wish I were.

PS: It looks like Tutto Italia may make their own cakes. I've seen a couple from them that looked good. I'd be curious to know if any of the other Epcot restaurants make their own.

This thread is amazing! I had no idea that all of this could be done! I didn't read through all of the pages but was wondering if someone could tell me if a cake could be delivered on a tour? I'm planning on scheduling the Keys to the Kingdom tour for my husband and I to do and it's a surprise. I know they do lunch at CHH and was wondering if they would deliver a cake there for that? All of our other meals will be with the rest of our party(8 people!) and this is the only time we'll be alone for our whole 10th anniversary trip :lovestruc:rotfl2: If not I'll have to take a look at our ressies that I'm going to make and see which restaurant I'd want to do it at. And 2 weeks is enough time?? Thanks a bunch!

I am the cake decorator @ the Contemporary Resort. I do all the cakes for Cal Grill, Wave and Chef Mickey's.
Ah! Then you are just the man I am looking for, no?

I was not so happy with the last Chef Mickey's cake I got. It looked pretty and it tasted okay enough, it just wasn't what I ordered. DD wants another birthday cake at Chef Mickey's but I've been hesitant to order since I didn't have such a good experience last time. It would be for breakfast this time around, on Wednesday 9/16. Would you be the one decorating my cake if I order? Would I need to call you directly to place the order? (I think that's where my problem might have been last time, not with the decorator but with the woman who took my order).

Thanks for any advice you might be able to give me! :goodvibes

The fondant cakes are so pretty. I want to order a cake for my son's birthday in November, but I have one question....what does fondant taste like? It looks a bit like play-doh, I hope it tastes better!

My DS insisted on eating the fondant until he had one bite :rotfl: I told him not to do it ;)
As others have posted, it separates easily.

Well hopefully CakeManBri will come through for both of us....my Ariel (white chocolate screen printed ;)) w/ sprinkles cake was ordered for Sept 16th as well :cake:

Who did you talk to? I have been emailing back and forth with Jessi about cake for my daughter at Chef Mickey for Nov 29th, mostly thanks to lurking on this tread and seeing all the great cakes. She sent me several pictures to look at and we finally settled on a six inch round with white fondant, red dots and a red bow a la minnie mouse. She quoted me a price of $55. She seemed very detailed. I called Contemporary private dining to place the order, told them I had already talked to Jessi, and gave them a description. Does that sound right to those who have ordered before?? I plan to follow up about a week before our trip.

I don't know for sure, but my guess is Brian wasn't the cake decorator 2 years ago. Contemporary's cakes have improved drastically in the last year (or less). Of course, I don't know Brian or anyone that works there, so I could be wrong.

That is really great to hear! I am really looking forward to our custom cake now.

Cakeman- I just saw the awesome Haunetd mansion cake you did for someone over on the cake gallery thread! That is just too cool!!! Hope you get my order for Chef Mickey on Nov 29th!!

I am under the same assumption as well...just thought it was funny she needs a cake the same day I do :upsidedow

I would assume so, but i didn't expect it after what I read here. We are going to the park after lunch, and don't want to carry around cake! Jessi was very helpful. She sent me pics of some of their standard cakes that sounded close to what I was looking for,and after about 3 email back and forth we got settled on what I wanted. I suggested the size and she said that they could do that.

I don't know, sorry. She may not even be there any more. She was a very nice woman, but she didn't seem to be able to answer any of my questions without putting me on hold and consulting someone else. I should probably have called back at another time and talked to someone different. It's just that by the end I thought we had come to an agreement about what they could do. I even left my phone number and cell number and asked that she note if that at any time they didn't think they could make the cake as I wanted it that I be called. I never got a call. I wasn't charged the quoted price either. I was charged what was, at the time, the price for a cake with an edible image. The cake I had ordered, at the time, cost a good bit more with the decorations I requested. So at least I wasn't charged for what I didn't get. ;)

No, I doubt he was. I never saw anything come out of there looking like the Haunted Mansion cake photos posted here, back then! I'm sure he could have made the cake I wanted. The thing was, I had it ordered at the GF, to be delivered to 1900 PF that trip. DD didn't really want to celebrate her birthday at 1900 PF, but at Chef M's. That's why I called to inquire if they could make a similar cake. If they couldn't I would have kept the GF cake and ADR. After being assured they could make the same, or a similar, cake, I cancelled the GF cake.

Hi everyone!! :grouphug:

We're taking a trip to disney this december, a late anniversary trip and I would love to get a cake made that looks the same as the top layer of our disney wedding cake that was made by the GF bakery.

Can the cakes only be delivered during a meal? Or can you pick it up from somewhere or have it delivered to your hotel room?

Has anyone walked up to the boardwalk and ordered a cake for pick up 2 days later? We were thinking of doing this in Oct? We just really want a small cake like the 2 tier cake but have some pizaz too it. Like Orange and black and 3 chocolate covered strawberries on it .
Lexi

I have. It was simple. This was a couple years ago for a friends bday while we were all at the BW. Just went in and they had a simple order form
