Cake info - My order form says "8 inch vanilla cake filled with custard and fresh strawberries, pink buttercream icing, Minnie Mouse themed."

Also, I was told that 8 inch cakes cannot be custom decorated, but the lady that actually took my order offered it, so I accepted!

Custom cakes are so worth it, even if they are a bit expensive.

Well, well, how funny, the main reason I decided against ordering a cake is because they said I had to order a 10" to get it customized. Only thing I really wanted special was the filling. Just wanted something different than the usual chocolate or vanilla.

Awesome idea! Where is that picture from?

It's from someone's Flickr. It's from DLRP. Isn't it great?

I was going crazy trying to find a good picture of that hat, and I think that's the best one I could find. It's super creepy, too!

Yes, super creepy. That was the first thing my husband pointed out. He said they really got into character. He knew right off it wasn't taken at WDW. I've trained him so well. ;) He's only been once so far too!

You have an awesome idea! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Has anyone ordered a birthday cake at Chefs de France?...Where did you call, and what were your choices?

Any pics?

TIA:flower3:

Date: 7/19/2009
Location: Narcoossee's at GF
Price: $62
Description: 8" chocolate cake with mocha mousse filling and chocolate ganache. For decoration, I requested something coffee themed, because my mother loves coffee, and to incorporate something to do with Rome or Italy, because my mother took herself to Rome for a special 50th birthday vacation. This cake was so beautiful and exceeded my expectations! It was also very delicious--there were four of us, and we finished half of the cake the first night (it was just that good!). The "postcards" on top were white chocolate, and there was mocha mousse and whipped cream inside the chocolate cup.

Wow, that cake is beautiful! And it looks delish. Love the way they did the coffee cup on top and the flowers and butterfly are very pretty.

Hmmmmm. so the GF bakery IS custom decorating 8 inch cakes. I may need to rethink getting one for our group dinner at Citrico's. I'd love to see what they'd do for a DCL "Bon Voyage" cake!

($60 something is way better the $140 something for the decorated 10 inch)

Just thought of this question.

Is the price of the cake on your dining bill, or do you pay for it at some other time? If it's on your dining bill total, does a TITW discount apply, or would they compute that before adding the cake. And, does the automatic gratuity for your large group apply to the cake.

Just checked out Citrico's desserts...they're all $8...makes that 8 inch cake look like not such a splurge now......:scratchin

I'm going to figure out how to post a picture, I swear...we had a 6 inch custom cake delivered to our dinner at 1900 Park Fare. It was for my mom's retirement celebration, with the theme of a Jolly Holiday from Mary Poppins, my daughter's favorite movie. I wasn't very specific when I talked to Pat...just gave her that and said for the pastry chef to do whatever with it. It turned out amazing! It was a carousel, complete with individually decorated chocolate carousel horses, with a sign saying to have a jolly holiday in retirement. I couldn't believe the detail. Price was $81.00. Completely worth it.

ETA: To answer the question about the TiW card...I used that on our meal and it took the 20% off everything, including the cake, but the gratuity applied to the whole bill, including the cake. It still worked out well for us to use it (pre TiW card, it was like $245 and I would have to add tip...post TiW, it was $250, including tip), but the tip was on the total with cake, so the tip was like $48 or something. Without the cake, the bill would've been about $165, with tip of $33. I suppose I could've insisted it be separated or something, but I wasn't going to make a huge deal out of it.

Thanks, this is the answer I was hoping for. The cake on the bill, gratuity and discount applied to it along with the meal, just as if you had ordered individual desserts. :thumbsup2

Here's how OCD I am....I just cut a piece of paper into an 8 inch circle to see what size the slices would be. Turns out perfect for a rich dessert after a big meal.

As much as I'd personally love a chocolate ganache I think white buttercream or whipped cream frosting would work better with a nautical theme....whadday ya think?

Anyone know if they offer more Alice themed cakes other than the mad hatter hat?

With the exception of wedding cakes, Disney's bakeries have no standard designs to choose from like you would see in a book at a supermarket bakery. Each cake is unique, which means you can send them a picture or just describe what you want and see what they come up with. :thumbsup2

You should be able to feed 20 people with a 10-inch cake. Use the Cake Hotline number on the first page of this thread to contact both Crystal Palace and Ohana and see which one gives you more options for flavors, decoration, etc. (Follow the prompts on the recording to get to Crystal Palace and speak with someone. Then call back and follow the prompts to get to Ohana.)

Well today is 2 weeks prior to dining at CRT for us and I want to order 2 slipper desserts for mom and cousin and already I got the voicemail system. :lmao: I just have to keep calling back because it seems like no one ever gets a call back on here!

So im hoping they will custom make an 8inch cake...anyway i have finally decided what to do lol
We will be celebrating DD's 4thday at 1900PF....im just going to request a cinderella cake with or without prince charming and the carriage. no edible images i prefer the white choc cutouts and leave everything up to the bakers.

Yep, she even offered me a 6" custom for $52. But I figured if I was paying that much anyway I might as well take more cake for just $10 more.

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knew if the mini chocolate castle would fit on top of mini wedding cake? I can't decide between the mini wedding cake or the other cake with one layer that has the castle on the top. If the topper fits on the cake I thought that would be cute.

Thanks for any replies. :)

We're going to be in The World for my birthday this year. This is my first time ordering a cake and I've decided that I want the one from GF that has the strawberries & custard on the inside. I have to figure out how small they can do it, since there's only 4 or us (two of us will be under 6). I've heard that the lady at the GF is not very helpful/easy to deal with so here's a couple questions that I probably could get answered if I searched hard enough... but I figured that I'd try here first ;)
**is there always a $75 delivery charge if they deliver outside the hotel? (I want to have mine at The Crystal Palace for lunch on my bday)
** I know what I want on the inside, but I don't know what my options are for the outside? Do I pretty much give them an idea of what I want and they'll just do it?
** Will they do toppers that are plastic and not sugar? I'm not an icing/sugar girl, so I'd rather have a little figurine that I can bring home with me and keep.

TIA!

the mini castle only fits on the single tier mini cake. The top tier of a mini wedding cake is only 1 1/4" in diameter, and the mini castle is a bit over 2"
