Official Breast Feeding Support Thread for WDW Parks

As a Doula I can tell you that the AAP and WHO recommend nursing for two years. AND exclusively for 6 months. I don't know a two year old who can't walk. ;-) (obviously there are exceptions to the walking statement)
:cutie:

The lactation consultant at my hospital asked if I would lead a breast feeding support group to help encourage new moms to consider and stick to nursing. There just isn't much encouragement these days.

And that you SHOULD! I am also considering starting one for my community.
What I would have given for one 16 years ago with my first.

And as to nursing in Disney, it was easy. I got very few looks even when my daughter was almost 2.

Good luck to all of you. You will do awesome! Well, heck! You already have.

I'm seriously considering it! Everyone keeps telling me to supplement with formula, and I refuse. I'm having issues with low supply. I had the same problem with my son and ended up formula feeding him because he had other health issues and my supply just wasn't enough BUT I know better than to supplement this time around. I know that giving LO formula will hurt my supply more. I'm waiting for my Domperidone to come and hopefully it will be the answer to my prayers!

As far as BF in Disney, I do it anywhere anytime so I'm not concerned about doing it at Disney. I say if people have a problem with me nursing my child it's exactly that, THEIIR problem. I don't know when it became so much more socially acceptable to give your child a synthetic version of something you can give them naturally. :confused3

I know you are probably not looking for advice...but two things stand out to me.
One is 90% of the time, low milk production is a result of a not so perfect latch.
OR Thyroid problems. (a lot of those go under the radar..where a dr. will say you are "normal" but really are not. A very small supplement of thyroid med will usually fix the problem with in days..)
Just two things to consider sweetie.

I'm always open to advice! I had a LC check latch and that doesn't seem to be a problem but I never heard of thyroid being a cause! I'm definitely going to have my doctor check it at my 6 week checkup. Thank you so much!

I have nursed my baby almost every time I have ridden POTC. I pretty much nurse wherever, but this ride has been pretty constant for us.

:rotfl: I just don't understand how something so natural is such a taboo issue, especially in today's society. Unless you watch LO latch on, I'm no more exposed than the 18 year old with her cleavage hanging out. Why is it any different?

AMEN SISTER!!! :thumbsup2

You all probably don't want to hear my opinion on this but sometimes it's the man's job to let the child grow up. Sometimes I think if it was possible mom's would be sending milk to their kids in college. Nature makes you want to keep feeding the kid so just as crazy it is for you to stop... it is for you to to not stop.

You are free to express your opinion. Your opinion seems to be that we should ignore the recommendations of organizations like WHO and listen to the "man." :lmao: Thanks for the laugh. I think you will feel more at home on the community board.

For those of you who understand that this is a thread about supporting breastfeeding, please join us. Others may feel free to join us in the 21st century.........:goodvibes

I re-read the first post and I missed the "it's not a place for debate." So I'm just going to drop it. I just read the last part were it said: Originally Posted by december

Sorry, but the LAW says I can whip out a **** and feed and my child. If I'm legally allowed to, then I will sure as heck do it. It's the most natural thing in the world. I've never felt uncomfortable when women have nursed their children in public at any point in my life.

I wholeheartedly agree! :D

I'm trying to make it to 2 years (my little on is 20 months), but I am pregnant with my second and it hurts like hell when I nurse now.

I usually don't care about nursing in public, but I do worry about small children walking by who aren't familiar w/ nursing (shame, I think) and their moms and dads giving me the evil eye...:sad1:

I highly doubt any kid would even notice you nursing, there's so much more to see in Disney. And who cares what their parents think, you'll never see them again. :thumbsup2

This. Also, all that has to be said is that a mommy is feeding her baby. I haven't explained the full bit about birds and bees to DS7 and he's still totally accepting of the fact that I'm feeding his sister and doesn't question things any further.

One time I was getting a pedicure when DD was only about 4 months old. My DD had been out with my husband but was desperate to nurse! The nail salon had two little boys (sons of the owner) who were there and they were so sweet - they just watched me nurse her and wanted to know if she was getting milk "from my body". They were probably like ages 3 and 5 or 6...and they were SO not offended at all!

I will be there soon and will be nursing my 26 month old...watch out!:lmao:

Thanks for the apology in the PM. All is well! Yes, it is sad that there has to be a support thread:sad1:
