Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread

Just a cautionary tale...I had ordered the mickey head cake for my birthday at Narcoosees. Needless to say, when the meal ended, there was no sign of cake. Where was the cake? Well, I called the GF private dining who took the order and they in turn called the bakery. The cake is still there. The folks at Narcoosees never went to pick it up! They didn't even check on it when I was there. All they did was tell me not to worry, I wouldn't have to pay for the dessert they brought me (which I didn't have to anyway b/c of the dining plan)

It was a big disappointment.

If you have a cake delivered to your resort, does the cake come in a box so you can keep it for the week?

Ours did come in a box so we could store it in the fridge- and it fit in there perfectly by the way. I'm sure that if you don't get one thy can easily provide you with one.

I'm just curious if anyone has had any good luck ordering a cake for in-room delivery at the Poly? We ordered one in October, and the lady told me they didn't do custom cakes. Ours actually turned out much better than I thought it would, but I am interested to see other people's. It looked pretty, btu the taste was a little lacking-- and pseudo frozen upon delivery ;)

Does anyone have pictures of cakes with smooth fudge frosting? I would like to do this for my DH

Not exactly smooth fudge frosting, but it was chocolate ganache. It had a nice smooth look to it.

That is beautiful. Where is that from? And what does ganache taste like?

I started to post, but it "disappeared" so I'll try again. If this winds up being a double post, I apologize!

The cake is from Whispering Canyon Cafe April 2007. I had never had chocolate ganache before and I didn't really like it. It tastes like dark chocolate and had somewhat of an "after taste" to it. My youngest dd though who loves dark chocolate loved the cake!

Hi Everyone, these are photos of the cake I ordered to celebrate my DD's birthday and her two cousins. The cake was an 8 inch marble with white buttercream icing and white chocolate centre. It was $40.00 for both the cake ( $25.00 ) and the topper ( $15.00 ). The cake was very good and they managed to get all three girls names on it. There was more than enough for our party of seven and we had leftovers for the rest of the week. I have to say it was a bit anti-climatic having the cake. There was so much going on at this dinner since it was with Cinderella, Prince Charming, the Stepmother and sisters. Both DD and her cousin were asked to dance with Cinderella and the food at the buffet was great.

I don't think I would order a cake again. It was nice and I was happy to do it, but it cost a lot at an already expensive meal. Not much to the "marble" part of it either.

Ganache is dark chocolate with cream mixed in to make it spread better - also butter, I think...

It's good....

(but then... I'm a chocoholic...)

Thank You so much that is what I was looking for. I am assuming you got that at the Poly I think it will be perfect for our Anniversery. I wonder if they will put raspberry or strawberry cream in it for me? Well I have 2 months to get things together.

This cake looks absolutely delicious. Maybe we will do something like that to celebrate our arrival to Disney. Can you tell me about the other cakes they offer? And what size cake this actually is? We have a family of 5 and our oldest son is a big eater, and the thinest thing going. I sure wish I had his metabolism.

Thank you very much.

All I was looking for was chocolate/chocolate, so I really don't remember exactly. But, I seem to remember they were like the "nice", specialty cakes that you could get at a grocery store or bakery. Maybe a strawberry filling, a coconut... The woman that I talked to had a very heavy accent, and was hard to understand at times. But I trusted the order she took and everything turned out fine.

It was an 8" cake. I would think if you cut it into 9 pieces (3x3) that it would be a very nice helping.

It was from the bakery at Wilderness Lodge. We had it at Whispering Canyon Cafe in April 2007.

I'm having a cake delivered to our villa at WL on Sunday. Do they automatically put the tip on the bill?

Hate to be a pest, but I really need an answer to my question. Does anyone know what kinds of birthday cakes Crystal Palace does, if any? I'm up the creek without a paddle right now; we'll be staying at Wilderness Lodge, but based on this thread they only make cakes with basic decoration (i.e. flowers). CP is where I'm having my birthday dinner, but I'm wondering if getting a cake here is a good idea. If anyone has any other suggestions, that would be SO appreciated. Thanks all! :wizard:

Just wanted to let you know that I ordered a cake for our ADR at CP in 2 weeks. Seems that they do the standard cakes that have already been posted about. I got a 10 inch cake (there's a huge group of us and I wanted to make sure we had some left overs) and was given the standard choices of vanilla, chocolate, or marble cake. Filling was chocolate, white choc mousse, or vanilla buttercreme, and the icing was vanilla or choc buttecreme. I was also given the option of getting a design on it ($8 extra). The request was added to my ADR and she said we would get charged for it there. I didn't need to leave a CC number. HTH
