....but wanted it at the restaurant I would not have any dessert at....
This is the entire reason I wasn't ever interested in a full out cake while at WDW.
Don't get me wrong, the cakes are beautiful and I'm sure quite yummy...but there are SO many outstanding choices for desserts at all the various WDW restaurants I don't want to limit my dessert choice to cake.
We celebrated ds' 2nd birthday at WDW last year and just had him get the free cupcake at each of our character meals. They made a fuss over him, put a candle in a cupcake and he got Happy Birthday sung to him at four different restaurants (Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare, Hollywood & Vine and Crystal Palace).
The cupcake was MORE than enough for ds and it was just right for celebrating his special day...four times during our trip!
In July, dd and I took a girls only trip for her 7th birthday. I did end up ordering the mini castle cake during our dinner at 1900 Park Fare as well as the chocolate slipper dessert during our early breakfast at CRT.
At Park Fare, the cake was the perfect sized for dd, MIL, and I to each have a taste and then have a sampling of the dessert portion of the buffet. We did end up taking about 1/2 the cake as well as the castle back to the resort that night and noshed on it for breakfast one morning while waiting for rope drop at DHS!
At CRT, dd loved the slipper dessert and since it was the morning of her birthday it was okay for her to have that instead of the preplated breakfast provided!
I can't imagine having had ordered a full out cake (as gorgeous as they are) and then finding out the restaurant we are at has a creme brulee special the night we are dining there!
FWIW... I had a HORRIBLE time w/ the person who took our order for the mini castle cake when I called about a week before our trip.
She tried to steer me towards a generic cake and when I insisted I knew exactly what I wanted she sighed and put me on hold for 3-4 minutes before coming back and taking my order. She was about to hang up on me when I reminded her that this was for my dd's birthday and I wanted the dessert personalized for her and I was told that it would be impossible to write anything on the cake. When I shared that I had seen photos where they wrote on the plate I got another sigh and she took the info after explaining to me that she couldn't promise that they would "have room for it on the plate."
It was definitely a less than magical phone conversation.
