Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

We're staying at the Desert Palms, and are not familiar with DL/DCA area. Looking at the map, will we be walking up S. Harbor Blvd. and walk between DL and DCA, past DTD to get to the start? Or will we be walking along Katella Ave and up W. West Street? Would it be best for DH to give DD and I a ride to someplace close? Also, we will be checking into DGC the day of the marathon. I'm planning for DH to do the paperwork while I'm doing the marathon - maybe after he drops us off somewhere for the marathon start. I'm asking for late check-out at the DP, however, because I know our villa won't be ready until much later and I will be in pain, I'm sure. I haven't been training much at all for this. :rolleyes1 I just hope I can finish!!! I want that C2C!! :goodvibes Thanks for any advice!

It sounds like your renting a car so my advice is going like your renting one. Morning of the half go to the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure to park. It's right next to the start and your DH will still be able to get out with the road closures. Plus they give you a ticket for the day so he can come back later to park again when you guys are finishing. (start and finish are in the same general vicinity) When I did the Disneyland Half I bypassed the busses and walking entirely since we had a car with my parents parking in the structure before I made a beeline to the corrals.

The biggest problem with the DGC plan is accessing it. The start goes right by the hotel so the road in front of it is going to be closed for at least an hour. If he parked at the parking structure he should be able to walk to it. But he probably won't be able to drive up to it for a while.

Thanks, StarGirl! Actually, we may or may not be renting a car...I just remembered  My DS lives in L.A., but I want him to stay at his own apartment the night before the marathon, so we may not have access to a car that a.m. unless we rent and we are deciding when it's closer.

Okay, so if we walk, what's the best way and how far is it (miles?)?

Sorry for the vagueness of my question!

I've stayed at Desert Palms before and it's definitely walking distance (less than a mile). In my opinion, driving would be a greater hassle than it's worth. I would walk along Katella ad then up Disneyland drive, since you end up backtracking just a little bit if you go up Harbor instead. There will be plenty of runners walking that way, so just follow the crowds! :)

Thanks for this!! :thumbsup2

Welcome. Hope you had a good time at the ToT. I would love to hear your comments about the Avengers course.

Does anyone know what the link is or where I can find it?
Do they wait for the Bib numbers to be announced?

How did it work for the Disneyland Half?

TIA - Tarin

Have you looked for the link to the igiftbag? I see info there for wine&dine and new balance.

At DL half it looked like you could just walk up, honestly. Could be wrong.

Prob obvious, but the bib you receive at the expo dictates your corral. (Your letter will be on the bib)

For the most part, if you're submitted time is below 2:30 then you'll be in the front half of the corrals.

There will be a link pop up later to print your 'personalized' waiver which will have your bib number. (At least there was last year)

Hope this helps

There was a website that you could sign up for your return time; you had to enter your bib number. It only opened at 6 a.m. on the days of the expo. Walk-ups were only taken on the last day of the Expo. It was really a great process and hopefully they keep it. The website address will be in either the iGift bag or the program. I can't recall which.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was wondering :-) I saw something on facebook before the DL half but didn't look into it!

This is the website that it'll be on. It probably won't update until closer to the event. I used this for the Princess half and it was an easy system to use- truly the hardest part was the 6 am wake up to sign up!

Thank you! Bookmarked!

I really want to line up early at the Expo and then go straight to the Disney Run Merch area right away - being the inaugural I want to get unique items! I was there for Dopey and it was a mad house with stuff selling out within an hour of opening!

With this I can focus on that and get a later time to go get my shoes :cool1:

I love those Cinderella sneakers but don't know if I can justify the money for them when I know they wouldn't be sneakers I'd wear to run or workout in! I wear new balances but neither of the models they sell.

I guess I have till the link becomes active to decide.

I have the Cindy shoes and they are AWESOME! I don't use them to run or workout in as I have transitioned to a barefoot running style in a maximalist shoe. I wear them to walk around at work on casual Friday's to work them in and I will wear them to walk around in the parks. They are great walking shoes and I love them.

I plan to try on the Minnie's and if they are not too much of a difference in heel to toe elevation or too heavy I will buy them plus a second pair of Cindy's for when the other ones wear out - I love them that much.

I'm from Canada and $120 US for a pair of running shoes is a good price even with the exchage :-)

You can try on the New Balance 890v4 at any running store. That is the model they use for the Cindy shoes. That's what I did!

I will probably try on the model to see if I like them for just every day use. I have worn the new balance minimalist line for a few years and they really work for me. I also get them from the new balance outlet so I normally don't pay close to $120. But the Cindy shoes are so pretty so I think I just need to go for it.

This will be my first 1/2 and wanted to know how early festivities start for a 530am race start. I loved the atmosphere for ToT having to wait from 8pm to the 10pm start, but that was a night time race. Are things similar for a.m. start? do they still have the one guy who warms up the crowd with dance moves? If so would arriving at 330am be my target arrival time??

I think 3:30 is good if you want. It might start at 3, but not 100% on that. It's similar to what they have at TOT. There's the DJ and some people dancing. Usually they have the green army men from Toy Story walking around as well.

Please add me to the 5K list - CynthiaC925. I was able to get a bib through one of the Charity providers - hooray!
Thanks!
