Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

Does anyone have any further info about the course how and where the runners cross over from DCA to DL? Trying to find out if spectator viewing will be available in the esplanade like at the DL 1/2 ??

Trying to view our "super hero" in a couple different spots while dragging a little "super hero" along too.

I'm even thinking of taking the car and heading out to somewhere in the Garden Grove area. Any ideas???

As far I can tell you'll probably have a chance to see them twice if you time it right. Once when they crossover from DCA to DL which is the exit right next to Soaring (not sure where exactly where were entering in but I'm pretty sure it's a fairly straight shot from there). And then again when exiting the parks since well be coming out of the main gate and into the esplanade before making a right if I'm reading this right.

There are a few bridges (roads with pedestrian walkways maybe? Not sure never been up there only my Mom) that cross the Santa Ana trail at several points. So if you want a spot to catch them where your not fighting a sea of spectators that's a good one since were on the trail for a long time. Of course this may or may not mean missing your runner at Angels depending on how fast they are and how fast you can get from point a to point B. Plus there is the matter of spotting your runner in a sea of humans (and trust me it becomes a sea on the Trail, those two miles on the trail are going to be looong).

Will post anything else if I can think of it.

First timer question - if the 5k starts at 5.30 what time would it all be finished?

My guess would be around 7-7:15 or so. They're pretty lenient with the 5k's and when you figure the waves in, last person starting and the time limit...

Has anyone used the ART shuttle during race weekends? Rundisney.com says the shuttle is complimentary for Disneyland area hotels, but it doesn't say if everyone is free or if you have to show some kind of proof that you are there for the race.

Everyone in your party is free and you don't need proof. Just tell the driver the first time you ride and they'll give you paper passes to show when you ride.

The art shuttle provides transport to the race! (for select hotels)
Is this true!?!? and if so, which hotels do they service (if any one knows).

Also, I have a question about the area of LA and Anaheim.

My husband is running this race for me and I am so grateful for him wanting to go to Disneyland (he's not a big Disney person as I am). But, in LA there is a large record store that my husband would like to go to. (Amoeba Records in LA it's off of Sunset Blvd).

Is travel to LA reasonable from Disneyland (and I don't want to rent a car as traffic scares me :rotfl:.

Is train or a shuttle pay service an option (I have been researching am track and such but the travel time it gives if well of 2 hours to get to the store).

I need HELP!

We tried it for the Half and it was awful.

My brother and son walked back to the hotel after brother and I ran (bc two of us had forgotten the tickets). DH and I went to art. I was a hurting unit after the half. We waited a long long time for a bus to come by for us. And we had the option of two buses! Finally an unnumbered shuttle came by our line and after some discussion he said he was our shuttle. Everyone boarded. He said nothing and let the automated voice speak for him.

Stopped at the rv park and some other motel then headed towards garden walk, which was beyond our hotel from the direction we were going. Other riders called out to the driver and he stuttered and said "next stop". Then he stopped at least a full block before our hotel and there should have been a stop right near the hotel.

Brother and son had been in the room upwards of an hour by the time we got there. And that wait in the full sun is when I got sunburned. Awful.

Won't chance it in the future! We just walked it the rest of the time it was free.

Oh and the official info art gave our hotel said you had to get it at the expo. They had it highlighted. I had forgotten what the PDF final documents said and believed that paper, so we walked to the expo. The. I went to the art people and they said everyone was out of tickets, even the drivers lol. I had to come back to get the tickets or hope a driver had them. (I got them after hitting the expo).

Maybe this race will be better after working out the problems, because there's a rude word I could say about my experience with the free art from the Half, but I'll spare us the actual word lol.

The ART shuttle doesn't actually take you to the race, it takes you to the normal shuttle drop off area for the parks. You still have to walk through the Esplanade and DTD, about a 10 minute walk. So if you're hotel is one of the ones across the street on Harbor it really wont save you many steps.

How are the IT Band and shin splints going?

Shin splints are very very minor. Doing the toe lifts and such to try to chase those away. Not even worried about them!

IT band is decent. I did 4.5 on Sunday yay! Felt some pain but it wasn't constant and it didn't get worse. In fact I almost went for 5 but then decided I need to stick to my plan and not do too much too soon. I'll do 5 this weekend hopefully and if that goes well I'm gonna ask the PT if I can start increasing 1 mile per week rather than just half mile. Cross your fingers for me!

Getting SUPER excited for Avengers! I need to make a sparkle skirt for DD to run in. But aside from that Im ready to go!

Hows your running going?

Thanks you for the info...I booked my hotel based on the race start/stop so I'll probably only be using ART for to and from the park afterward...hopefully that is a little more organized!!

We're staying at the Desert Palms, and are not familiar with DL/DCA area. Looking at the map, will we be walking up S. Harbor Blvd. and walk between DL and DCA, past DTD to get to the start? Or will we be walking along Katella Ave and up W. West Street?

Would it be best for DH to give DD and I a ride to someplace close?

Also, we will be checking into DGC the day of the marathon. I'm planning for DH to do the paperwork while I'm doing the marathon - maybe after he drops us off somewhere for the marathon start.

I'm asking for late check-out at the DP, however, because I know our villa won't be ready until much later and I will be in pain, I'm sure. I haven't been training much at all for this. :rolleyes1 I just hope I can finish!!! I want that C2C!! :goodvibes

Thanks for any advice!
