** Official August 2024 Thread **

We told our kids about vaca today and they are super excited. Even though we have our plane tix bouncing around the idea of driving so need to get that debate settled but now that the cat is out of the bag I can start organizing stuff to pack out in the open.
I am starting to get together “the list” of what will go in each bag and figuring out what’s left to buy for the trip… I’m half tempted to have toiletries, sunscreen, etc. sent right to the resort for us so it’s there when we arrive and we don’t have to worry about lugging it down and back….

Happy packing and planning!!

We’ve done that the last couple trips. I pack a travel sized tube in case we want to hit the pool or springs on arrival then the sunscreen and snacks come later via Instacart. If memory serves I ended up needed two deliveries last time as we went through a lot of sunscreen and bottled water! If you don’t need a very specific brand for health reasons it makes life way easier.

That's what I do, too! And I always buy a roll of paper towels and a bottle of liquid hand soap, too!

What is everyone looking forward to the most on their trip?
We are looking forward to our first stay (second time at Universal) at the Hard Rock Hotel. Looking forward to the express passes and short walk into the parks! We are also looking forward to experiencing the deluxe extended evening hours at MK and Epcot. We are staying at our favourite resort, Beach Club, but we've never been there for extended evening hours - really hoping on some short lines. I also am looking forward to trying the Regal Eagle quick service, Trattoria al Forno (new to use) and riding our favourite 'GOTG' ride!!!

Thank you! Appreciate it. I feel like I check for the hours every day, just hoping ... I'm headed to Disney on the 18th (Universal on the 14th), so maybe I'll have my hours by about August 2nd? I am guessing that they'll be pretty similar for the whole month of August.

Yes, if the pattern holds, Friday Aug 2nd should the be hours update you need. But, I'm not sure if July 24th will yield an update to hours. I think they need to have hours out to Aug 13th on July 24th -- people who check in on July 31st for a 14 night stay should be able to book through Aug 13th.

I am most interested in MK hours on MNSSHP days ... I think MK opens at 8am on MNSSHP days, but last year I didn't go to early entry at MK on my party dates, so I can't tell from my photos.

I'm also interested in AK hours. I really miss evening hours at AK. Some of my favorite disney memories are from AK at night. Although I think there is <1% chance of evening hours at AK in August.

Good point about hours needing to be posted 2 weeks in advance for LLMS selections for those with 2 week long trips. I hadn't thought of that. I really miss the evening hours at AK too. Especially since we always travel in the heat of August, the evening hours were more enjoyable. I loved how things looked there in the dark. I am guessing that the August hours will be very similar to the July hours, except for the party days at MK in August.

We all know it's going to be hotter than the surface of the sun. :sunny:

Ladies - what are you packing to wear?
Answering my own question. Normally - even in August - I wear Disney themed tshirts/tanks and denim shorts, and sometimes "milk silk" dresses and shirts from an online boutique. I live in Wisconsin so even in January, Orlando is hot to me  Obviously cotton and denim are not great fabrics for the heat and I sweat like crazy!

This trip, I refuse to be uncomfortable for the sake of looking cute for Disney, so I bought a ton of Lululemon knock offs at Target and will just wear ears for Disney flair. I'm 46 and chubby and I've already warned my daughter. Haha!

I don't do shorts, but I find Lululemon studio pants to be lightweight, along with Disney tanks.
A lot of lightweight dresses with bike shorts.
Birkenstocks and my Lululemon slides (so comfortable).
It will be so hot! We do afternoon breaks with swims and/or showers.

Quick dry black capri length pants. They feel like wearing nothing and weigh nothing. Quick dry tops. 9 days worth, plus an extra pair of pants and a few tops. I'm not doing laundry. Ankle compression socks, 2 pairs of sneakers.

No matching outfits for us, but I do try to make sure that our outfits are complementary. I shudder when I look at our photos from the first trip. It's almost like I tried to put us in the worst possible combinations -- daughter in pink plaid, son 1 in olive green, son 2 in neon yellow. Ever since then, I have made sure that doesn't happen.

Oh yes - Birks for me, too. I usually bring Birks, comfy Crocs and a pair of sneakers.

And we do afternoon breaks back at POP too - we started doing that a few years back during an August trip, but now we do that all the time. :)

I might even change clothes after the break. We don't mind doing laundry on our trips (we just do it while we're in the pool as there are often laundry machines in the pool areas), so we can pack light to save cost of too much checked baggage at airport. You've got me thinking about packing now, lol. We are 27 days out, so maybe I will start today!

I have two outfits a day planned

I have athletic style shorts, biker shorts, denim shorts with fancy sports bras and themed Disney shirts from Etsy. I’ve done the absolute most on my wardrobe. :cutie:

Travel day and Disney Springs: Forky shirt that says “Vacation Mode”
AK: tank top that is UP themed
DHS: one day tank with Toy Story characters with the Mickey balloons
DHS AH: Star Wars… haven’t fully decided yet!
MK: … omg, I have 15 favorites and can’t pick. Do I want Alice in Wonderland or Belle?!?!
Epcot: torn between Tiny Chef and Here for the Snacks!!

Not to mention my Halloween costume for MNSSHP!!!!! :rotfl:

Normally we bring two suitcases and I don't do laundry, but this time we are only checking one suitcase so I'll be doing laundry at the Hippy Dippy Pool, too!

We have a reservation for a 1 BR at BWV for Aug. 26 - 28 in hopes of scoring tix to Moonlight Magic at HS. If not DW has reservations about experiencing the surface of the sun.
