***Official August 2022 Thread***

We're going 13th to 23rd August staying at Coronado Springs (3rd time lucky, postponed twice due to COVID rules). We've gone from party of 4 to 2, but it's still going to be amazing. I haven't been to any Disney park since 2019 so I know there will be tears of joy when I see the Walt Disney World sign again.

My ADR window opened last Tuesday and was ready with 3 devices open for a Space 220 lounge ADR and managed to book for our 2nd day in Epcot. I wanted 11.30am but snagged 12.40, but 10 minutes later 11.30am was showing so I swapped. Our other ADRs may not have been as popular so didn't have any issues:

Aug 16th - Chefs de France lunch
Aug 17th - GFC dinner
Aug 18th - Boathouse dinner
Aug 19th - Sci-Fi lunch
Aug 20th - GFC dinner (back up)
Aug 21st - Space 220 lounge lunch
Aug 23rd - Sci-Fi lunch (back up)

The rest will be QS and snacks.

We are not buying Genie+ for our upcoming August trip. We are rope drop people and have been going long enough that we don't need multiple rides on things. We enjoy the resort and pool time / Disney Springs / dining as well as the rides. We are doing 8 park days total, so I feel like we will be fine, but then I start to second guess myself. We were really good with FP+, but I just don't feel like Genie+ is for us. Anyone else not getting Genie+? Does it worry you? We will rope drop and have a plan (but a flexible plan). So much has changed since our last, pre-covid visit and I'm a bit nervous.

I am mostly in your same boat with a few exceptions. G+ is $75 a day for our family of five, so we're not looking forward to that expense. My hope is to use a combination of rope drop and deluxe evening hours to do EP and MK without G+. AK we have a RD and an evening planned, again hoping that's enough there. We also have a long trip so we can start loading G+ later in the trip if that plan isn't working. My girls want to have a lot of pool and water park time, so we hope to only be in the parks in the mornings and evenings when lines are lower, anyway.

For HS, I just don't see a pleasant touring experience without G+. There are simply too many rides whose lines build quickly. Without G+, you can RD a ride or two, hop in line at the end of the night for a ride or two, but you've still got a ton of 60+ minute waits in there if you want to do the whole park. As of now (10:15am Wednesday) even AS2 is already at 50 minutes, Star Tours at 35 minutes. That's less than 2 hours of touring (assuming we went in for the 30 minute early entry) and we're at the point where we're only comfortable waiting to meet Olaf or do one of the shows. I mean, I love Muppets 3D, but you can't spend the whole day in there. :-)

I'm assuming we'll leverage G+, RD, ILL for Rise, and evenings to get through HS without getting stuck in lines over 30ish minutes. My eight year olds are also going to be trying a ton of new rides in this park (ToT, RnR, Rise, MFSR, MMRR) and long waits for the thrill rides are just an opportunity for them to psych themselves out.

I'm doing a mix like you.

MK - probably genie + both days? Not 100% sure, I'm sure I'll make a call on that the week of based off of how lines look.
AK - no genie +. Planning to rope drop FOP, but then hoping to get into moonlight magic to hit some of the other rides.
EP - no genie +. Will rope drop and extended evening hours.
HS - genie + I think and pay for Rise. I just don't see how to do the park otherwise.

After reading your thoughts, I think I might get Genie+ just for HS. Everything you're saying makes sense to me. We like rope drop (we are doing rope drop, leisurely afternoons, maybe back in at night, followed by a day off and then repeat). We have park day / day off /park day / day off ... etc. We don't need to do any Star Wars rides, but we must do Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania and try the new Mickey-Minnie Railroad. I like Muppets 3D too, but I hear you!

I'm so happy to see everyone easily getting the reservations they wanted! T minus 2 days till my window opens and our excitement is through the roof!
Ours open next Tuesday and I've also been happy to see the good luck everyone's been having so far!

Not going to lie, I'm a bit disappointed :( I've never had this much difficulty in August before but then again i have never gone with a group of 8.

absolutely no availability for Topolino's breakfast or Rose & crown fireworks dining. - I asked my travel agent to keep an eye out and set up touring plans to notify me of any availability. Fingers crossed!!

Homecomin only had dinner reservations after 9 PM, With 4 kids under 12 that is going to be hard. I plan on walking up to get a table.

Boma breakfast was available for 8 but super early, will keep an eye out for cancelations.

Yak & Yeti had 0 availability for dinner, booked lunch instead.

The Plaza and nine dragons were easy when I split my group of 8 into two tables of 4.

Hope everyone else has better luck!

8 ppl makes it tough. Last year we were a party of 7 and had your same issues. We split alot up into 4/3's. This year it's just 3 of us and was much easier. Hopefully touring plans comes through for you.

I'm sorry, that sucks!

It might be worth it to buy the subscription for Mouse Dining - it sends a text alert when the reservation you want is available, as opposed to an email from touring plans. Is a little faster so you have a leg up.

Thanks! I'll definitely do that!

I believe touring plans has a text alert feature as well?

... Just looked, and there is :)

Can you link your Halloween tickets to your My Disney Experience?

They do! You can do two at a time.

Yes, you can. Link them like how you would link a regular ticket

Thanks! I'll have to figure out how to do that then.

Parking question for you guys, my SiL and her family are driving while my family is flying. Since we are going to have a car, is it more convenient to drive from place to place rather than take the shuttle bus? We will be staying at Port Orleans. And how does parking work? Would we need to pay at each place we go to or does the resort parking cover park parking also?

Resort parking covers park parking, but remember that those parking lots are BIG. We always have a car, but we hate driving to parks. Especially MK, where it’s a parking lot tram to the TTC, then either boat or monorail to the park… instead of the bus which drops you off mere steps from the entrance. I know others feel differently!

Same thing happened to me yesterday. We always go at the end of August. Nothing we wanted was available for our entire trip. I set up dining alerts. Hopefully something becomes available within the next two months. Good luck. We both need some pixie dust!

I'm not sure if anyone in late August was wanting to book the Droid Depot, but Disney just released availability. Just booked for Aug. 26th!

Same here. Didn't have much luck with any of my top choices.
