Blah. My husband got laid off Wednesday along with hundreds of other people in his company.

He did get 4 and a half months of severance( he had been there 7 years), great references, and head hunters have already started calling, so I'm rather confident he'll be working again shortly. And hopefully this will end up as a bonus where he gets severance plus a salary for a couple months...but BUT our vacation! We're supposed to go Aug 8th.
So silly to be worried about it, and really just getting a job is miles ahead of vacation on my stress scale, LOL, but I still want to gooooo!
Hoping it all works out somehow.

QOTD:

What's your biggest vacation worry? :worried:

Finances? Heat? Hurricanes? (or other weather-related issues) Illness?

Something else? (and if so, name it)

All of the above? :rotfl:

Or .... nothing at all?

Missing the plane is my biggest worry!! Going to love the heat for sure and money well other then food it is all paid for. So if I have to eat PB & J sandwiches for the time we are so be it... Will buy GOOBER Grape with PB...:lmao:

Oh Wow that is terrible It sounds like he will be in demand which is great. Tell them that part of the signing bonus or offer is you have to have a once a year paid vacation to your happy place...;)

I worry about flight delays due to weather, or maintenance or anything at all. DH and I are airline people and sometimes too much knowledge is dangerous! I worry about my bags getting lost! I worry about either one of us being sick! My first time at WDW, on our honeymoon, I was actively fighting my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. For most our trip I was exhausted and in pain. Don't get me wrong, we still had fun, but it want all it could be. Then a few years ago, DH got sick on our 2nd day there and by day 4 we were at Urgent Care. It didn't ruin out vacation, but DH didn't enjoy it like he wanted to...felt like he was dragging himself through the day :( Now we sort of stock up on antibiotics before any vacation and take them with us. Then, the Minute we start to feel ill, we take them.
Oh! I also worry about some sort of family emergency (like a death in the family), that would force us to cancel our trip. The minute we hit the airport, our phones are off! No more phone calls! Once out trip starts, we are totally unavailable.... If something's wrong, well find out when we return!

I hope all goes well this time and I agree about the family emergency. My Mom is 93 this year BUT in better health then all of us but it doesnt' stop us from worry.

I am so sorry  .

Fingers crossed that a job offer comes quickly and that your trip occurs as scheduled.

Fingers crossed, and hope his new job will allow vacation as planned. Sorry to hear about his lay off.

Sending good vibes your way! Hopefully it's just a little bump in the road and everything will be smooth sailings come August!

So sorry, hoping something great comes his way soon.

Sorry about the job loss, I know you can't help but worry. I know when I got laid off last May, the VERY FIRST thing that came to my mind was "Phew! Thank GOD this didn't happen before my WDW/DCL cruise that I just came back from last month!" Followed very quickly by "Oh noes! What about my trip and cruise next April!?!?!" I didn't cancel right away but I did end up cancelling a few months down the road unfortunately. It just wasn't feasible to spend that $ on a big vacation when I still hadn't gotten a job.
(It didn't stop me from still going on my August trip though a couple months later, that was a short little trip just DH and I so wasn't a huge expense. ;) )

Hope he gets a job soon!

Thanks all! This has happened twice before and it ended up for the best, with really not a lot of time between jobs. Less than a month, but we have a friend who has been out of work for FOUR YEARS and that always in the back of my mind. Our friend was very specialized in the medical field, and my husband is a dime a dozen accountant, so I keep telling myself they're two different situations. We shall see-thanks for the support! Now back to happy vacation talk. :)

I hope it is OK to ask this here (don't want to go OT), but when I read shoe/sandal recommendation threads, there are people responding who have gone at different times of the year. When we went during the winter, it was easy- my best supportive sneakers. ( 2 pairs, rotated) But since our last summer trip years ago, I have had back problems and an episode of plantar fasciitis. So I thought, who better to ask for advice than summer trippers? Any recommendations?

I have my Adidas running shoes and my Clark sandals. The key for me is to rotate the shoes every day. If I wear the same shoe two days in a row, my feet will begin to hurt at some point during the second day.

I wear different shoes almost daily. I have a good pair of hiking sandals from our camping store, my nike runners and another pair of sandals too. I learned that lesson the hard way, the rubbing after a couple days in the same shoes nearly ruined our vacay the first August. Also I rotate from morning to after break time too.

Each of us in our travel group bring two pairs of sneakers. My daughter and granddaughters bring at least two pairs of flip flops. I can't wear flip flops so I bring very simple canvas slip ons. But at the parks I only wear sneakers and switch each day.

I also rotate, but sandals only in august for me! I have Keene, Tevas, and Kalso Earths that I rotate a couple of times a day. Works great for me.

I rotate too, and I wear lightweight shoes. I have an amazing pair of lightweight Timberland cork sandals that I bought last year; they're awesome at keeping my feet from being too hot and too swollen. I also have a pair of Croc flipflops, a pair of open flats, and a pair of canvas, Toms style shoes. I rotate between them daily so that my feet don't get too bad.
