****OFFICIAL August, 2012 (PART 2)****

We got those fans. They seem fine, all work, I checked. I made straps to carry them
Mire easily but I have stroller do I can throw them in basket. I have extra batteries too

I know I shouldn't do it.. But I just checked the weather forecast for our first day in Disney on the 25th.. And it's a 72% chance of thunderstorms. I know I shouldn't look and I know it will change 100 times before we get down there. But it is still quite aggravating! :)

Don't bother checking again. You can't control it, and it won't be accurate anyway.

I'm right there with ya :thumbsup2 .

I just made our "need to buy before we go" list and its soooooo short :cool1: . I want to start packing so badly. Its taking everything I have to leave all the stuff in the closet.

I may have to haul out a few items tonight to satisfy my urges :rotfl: . Wonder if my neighbours would think I'm crazy if a brought out a misty fan to "practice" with on my evening walk? :rotfl2:

What Misty fan do YOU use?? :scratchin

We leave Friday and in the last week, % of rain has changed multiple times per day! Its way too early for you to get accurate forecast. It's hardly accurate the same day honestly:)

FDA Proposed Regulations, Data Requests, and a Draft Guidance

In addition to the final regulations, in June 2011 FDA proposed a regulation that would require sunscreen products that have SPF values higher than 50 to be labeled as “SPF 50+.” FDA does not have adequate data demonstrating that products with SPF values higher than 50 provide additional protection compared to products with SPF values of 50.

FDA also requested data and information on different dosage forms of sunscreen products. The agency currently considers sunscreens in the form of oils, creams, lotions, gels, butters, pastes, ointments, sticks, and sprays to be eligible for potential inclusion in the OTC sunscreen monograph – meaning that they can be marketed without individual product approvals.

For sunscreen spray products, the agency requested additional data to establish effectiveness and to determine whether they present a safety concern if inhaled unintentionally. These requests arose because sprays are applied differently from other sunscreen dosage forms, such as lotions and sticks.

Anything over a 50 pretty much does not really give you any extra protection. Applying and reapplying is the key. If at all possible put sunscreen on at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun and reapply every couple of hours. For fair skinned folks, you might want to reapply more often.

Also, be careful with those high SPF sunscreens if you have sensitive skin. The chemicals can actually be the ones burning your skin not the sun.

Both of my kids have allergies to most sunscreens. The only one they can use right now is Blue Lizard for sensitive skin and has an SPF of 30.

Wearing hats is great to protect your scalp and your face.

I am hoping everyone has a great trip this month and are safe in the sun.

Thanks Taylor. I knew anything over 50 wasn't a big difference but the more the better. lol However I do have sensitive skin so that's something to consider too.

Also with my husband's psoriasis I am debating on getting HIM a lotion and me a spray. I am afraid the alcohols in the sprays will make his skin worse. He uses cetaphil cream daily all over and I put it on him when he's hurting so that would be nothing new for me (putting lotion on him) but me I hate feeling all lotiony and sticky in heat so I definitely want a spray.

You are most welcome. I take the sun seriously and there is nothing worse than a bad sunburn.

Just make sure you don't inhale the spray. Have you ever tried Bullfrog Gel? My husband is extremely pale and hates the feel of regular sunscreen. He has found the Bullfrog gel 36 SPF works great for him. He does have to reapply often.

Gina, if I was your neighbour I would totally support your misty fan test walk. I'd join you and yell "We're going on vacation!!" all through the neighbourhood:rotfl2:

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Sure you don't want to zip down the 401 and meet me around 8-ish? ;)

I honestly don't know what brand they are.....we picked them up at a local discount department store. Tried them out and they work pretty well. Not huge but not small.....somewhere in the middle, size-wise.

I can take a pic later (when I get home....I am supposed to be working :rotfl: but I can't concentrate :lmao:) and upload it, if that would help :goodvibes.

Haven't needed misty fans on previous trips, as we have always gone in January. So this will be a first for us.

Where did you get it? I checked at Walmart and Walgreens but haven't tried anywhere else. I figured online would be easier.

I should be working too. :rotfl2: But I have Disney brain. This sunscreen thing has my attention. Talked to DH he definitely needs a lotion not a spray. But the lotions all come in such small amounts 2-4 ounces for the sensitive skin/baby stuff and you're supposed to use 1 ounce per application and DH is a big guy so likely more. Ugh. I want to prevent him from burning and overheating and overall I just want him to be a happy healthy camper. I am too used to him feeling badly and I dont want him to get sick on vacation. I should probably just go get generic but again I want something that definitely works and is okay for his skin. :scratchin

We got them at a small Ontario chain retailer called Giant Tiger. Won't be one of those near you in Iowa, though :headache: .

I love the "Disney brain" diagnosis :thumbsup2 . I am going to have to use that one. It is the perfect explanation to almost everything these days!!!

I get the same thing but mine is from rosacea. I get red cheeks and chin and blochy hives all when I'm overheated (or just hot) and when I'm upset. I have a few other things that trigger it that I just try to avoid instead of being on any medication for it. It goes away once I cool down.

I should probably just wear a hat. I am just not very fond of hats on me.

I used to HATE hats, too, but have grown to at least tolerate them, because a burnt scalp is painful! There are some cute ones out there that you can even squish up to pack and when you put them on, they look decent. The only problem is, when I take off my hat (for a ride or going inside or something) then I have "hat hair". Sigh. Just can't win.
BTW - 16 days for us!!!!

I totally agree with this and feel the same way. As someone who is in the sun almost every day (hence my name), I am psycho about reapplying sunscreen. I slather it on my boys at least every hour. Also, I buy wide cloth headbands to cover my scalp at the beach.

I actually find that a little goes a long way. I had a bottle for two summers that I just finished, and, like I said, I am a serial reapplier. I just checked what I use for the boys- it's a kids, sensitive skin banana boat 8 oz bottle that has lasted three boys all summer. Maybe grab a bottle that size? Hope I helped a little.

OH NO!!!!!! I hope she gets better before you leave!

My kids used to do that all the time! Big holiday coming up? They were sick! Vacation? They were sick! Seemed like any time something big was happening they would get sick. Good news is they always got better before the big event actually occurred.

Here's hoping she wakes up tomorrow fever free!

Hope she feels better soon! My son just got over some kind of viral infection that had a high fever for 2 days and then 5 days of a horrible sore throat.

Oh, no, I hope she feels better. My DD used to get these fevers that would last like 12-24 hours, no other symptoms and would just sleep. She would wake up and be completely fine.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. DD is feeling much better today and is fever free. :cheer2: She has gotten mystery fevers before and has had to sleep them offf. Last year she missed a whole week of school because the fever would return in the evening.

Okay, so I am home :) and took the promised picture:
