Official August 2007 thread

Thanks, marciemi. Yes, I just signed up with TGM yesterday. Since we will only have three days at the parks I want to be able to make the best of the time we will have. I am anxiously awaiting his suggestions on what to do on the days we will be there. I was planning on going a week later but DDs school calendar just came out and they are starting a week earlier this year so I had to move the days up a week :( . I want to sign up for a character meal but am not sure which one yet.

I'm going to being staying at Pop Century August 13 through the 23rd. I can't wait. This will be our third time going in August and our third time staying at Pop. I love this place.

It is hot, but the crowds weren't that bad.

I didn't book it yet, but I think I will at the end of the month.

We'll be in the World in August, too! :yay:

We're hoping for August 5-11 but if Free Dining is announced, we'll adjust our dates accordingly to take advantage of that. We did the Free Dining last August and it was wonderful for us ~ keeping fingers crossed for it this year! :thumbsup2

That's busy!! Way more than I want to do, that's for sure!! I wish I could spend a few more days than I have for this trip, but I am happy with that as it is better than nothing!!!

After looking into different options, facilities, etc., I have changed my resort from CBR to COR. I think DD will like the pool much better and I like that they have their own bus to and from the parks. Still so far away but I am soooo excited! :yay:

Think that was a good move. We loved Coronado Springs. Although we probably have a biased view towards both of them. We only went to CBR (to check out the hotel for future visits) once for the day when my oldest boys were 1 & 2. While we were in the pool area (not swimming, just looking around), my 1 year old climbed up on a chair, leaned forward, and promptly landed face first on the concrete. He was okay, but tore up the skin on his face and nose pretty good and all the pics from the rest of the week of him don't look very happy!

We went to CSR in Jan 2005 while my husband was there for business. I think it's a great hotel to stay at that still offers a cool pool with slide & hot tub and the direct (rarely crowded) buses (unlike the All-Stars), but it's also so nice and quiet. Since so many people are there for business, it seems like the pools, food court, and buses are so empty compared to other resorts. Granted we were there in January, but we went to MK & Epcot twice and each of the other parks once and NEVER had another person on our bus. I don't believe anyone else was in the pool the one morning we went there either, but that could have been because it was 58 degrees! We can't stay there regularly because we have 3 kids (on the business trip we "bunked" one kid next door with a friend from DH's company), but if DH & I ever went alone or if we went with 2 kids when one's off at college or whatever, it would definitely be our choice.

We're going the 18-25, and renting a house in Windsor Palms. I'm starting to get a little nervous about the crowds, because as a few others have said, some school systems are starting later (including ours). My son goes back 8/27, so we decided to wait until the very end of Aug, hoping to avoid crowds, but now it looks like that might not be the case.

No free dining since we're off site, but we're totally fine with that. Last trip, it felt like we planned our whole trip around ADRs, and wasted hours each day checking in, waiting for tables, waiting for our food, waiting for the check, etc... And we were underwhelmed at nearly every meal.

This time we're just planning three TS meals -- Chef Mickey's the night we arrive, tea at the Grand Floridian on our "rest day", and Hoop Dee Doo that night. I like the contrast of sipping tea and eating daintily from fine china like a proper lady, then gnawing meat off a bone with my bare hands a few hours later. For the other meals, we'll just do CS, or little nibblies around the WS in Epcot.

We'll be there August 18-25 at WL. Booked bounce back during our trip in November. We were lucky enough to travel the second week in September in 2006 and it was absolutely empty (ds's school started 9/20 due to HS construction). We had an unbelievably wonderful time but I don't think that late August will be as empty.

I was considering shifting to the last week (coming home LD weekend) but expected crowds to be bigger and airfare to be higher.

We're also leaving in 3 weeks for a short weekend trip for ds's 9th birthday. Can't wait.

We put our deposit down today for our honeymoon from August 25th to September 3rd at the Pop Century Resort. We are so excited!

Going the last week of August. Papa said he wanted to take all four grandchildren (15 - dgs, 11 - dgs, 7 - dgs, and 7-dgd) to Disney! We will have two rooms at All Star Sports and hoping for free dining - our grandkids have HUGE appetites.

Count us in too!!

I just booked at the Contemporary for 8-25 to 9-3!!

My CRO agent told me to check back for free dining as he was "confident" it would be offered at that time!!!

We haven't been in August since our honeymoon 10 years ago but I still remember the heat like it was yesterday!!!

We plan on taking afternoon breaks at the pool and hitting the water parks a couple of days too!

One other tip that we used back then was to bring one of the small wash clothes from the hotel and soak it in a drinking fountain before getting in a long line. Then we put it on the back of our neck while we waited. It really helped keep us cool. Also, refillable water bottles are an absolute must!!!

I am going to check out some sweat absorbant socks as my blisters always show up when my feet sweat! If I can't find some I like I will probably just live in my sketcher sandals that I got from Victoria's Secret Catalog. They are so cushy on your soles and I won't have to worry about sweat! ;)

I like the idea about the washcloth. I will have to remember that! I also have two of those little battery operated hand-held fans and just bring a fresh bottle of water that I can fill at fountains as it empties. I like to find one with the squirt type caps so I can use that and not worry about losing the lid. As for shoes, I have my trusty crocs and that is all I need!!!! Comfy, let air in and don't care if they get wet.

I keep hearing about free dining but find no references to it on WDW's site. From what I read on TGM it seems to be for those who booked while already at WDW.

I hasn't been offered to the general public yet. So far guest from the UK and those staying on site last December have been able to book free dining for next August-September.

Many of us are hoping that they offer it to everyone else this April.:wizard:
