What??? The whole reason we were going on the 22nd was because of amEMH!!! It's our only day there so I wanted to make sure we would be able to get all the big ones done (EE, Dinosaur, Safari) first thing before it got too crowded. And with all the Earth Day stuff it's going to be extra-crowded anyway. I wonder if there's anyway I could still change ADRs around at this point and go on the 21st...hmmm. But DH really wanted to be there on Earth Day. WHY do they do this to us????

Anyway, on a more serious note, I am so sorry for your loss. We have a 13-year old Lhaso Apso who is really showing her age these last few months and I get emotional just thinking about it. But it sounds like your dog lived and long and full life, and was very loved. What more could a pet ask for? Hopefully your vacation will give you a much needed reprieve!

Thanks about the dog. We are still tearful today.

Just copied this from the main DIS site:

* 8:40 am - Opening ceremony at the Tree of Life. Speakers will include Josh D'Amaro, Vice President of Disney's Animal Kingdom; Dr. Jackie Ogden, Vice President of Animals, Science and Environment; and Joe Rohde, Senior Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering Creative.

If the park doesn't open until 9:00, then I have to assume that this event is not open to the public? I guess I am going to ask when we are at the park earlier in our trip. I'd kind of like to sit in on something special like this.

It was about a 15 min wait, lane #6. Order of resort drop offs for this shuttle is Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, Art of Animation, Animal Kingdom Lodge. Grr.was hoping for my AoA first

I have to be up at 4am...and I cannot sleep ..ugh!!! Flight leaves at 8:05am....excited doesn't begin to describe my feelings!

I LOVE that feeling!!!! One year, we decided to drive to Disney (from NY). We had to get up early in the morning to hit the road and avoid traffic. We were way too excited to even sleep so we decided at around midnight since we were too excited to sleep, that we could be driving all this time! So thats what we did! We got out of bed, packed the car, and took off in the middle of the night! LOL!

Anybody else dying to try the beet pop?
No! I saw a pic of it and thought it looked delish but then read there was beet in there so I lost interest!

With being in the state of limbo for the last few months, we put our dog down yesterday, and I should be packing now. I couldn't let myself pack as long as I still felt the trip could be canceled, but now we are for sure going, and I am having a hard time gathering my thoughts and my stuff to begin the packing process. I am "Miss Organization" and right now you would never know it!

We had to make the decision to put one of my dogs down last fall, and it was the hardest decision we ever made, so I understand what you're going through. We didn't want to say goodbye, but sometimes choosing to end your pet's suffering is the final act of love you can perform for them. I hope you and your family are doing okay :grouphug:

On a planning note, we're down to 17 days now, and it's hard for me to focus on the exams I should be studying for when I have so much packing and planning and organizing to do! Gah!

Just 10 days now until our 5 day trip without the kids :) Who knew 10 days could feel like such a long time??

I expect it will be a similar situation as they have with Rope Drop. They'll let everyone through the turnstiles, and rope off past there until later. I never actually made it to rope drop at AK when they still did an opening ceremony, so I'm not sure how far they used to let people in.
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for them to make the info public if they weren't going to have it open to at least a sub-group of people.

4 days til we hit the road, 5 days til we arrive.

I was checking easywdw yesterday and Josh said that the crowds have thinned. Yay!

So sorry about your pup. I remember how much less stressed out we were after we had to put each of our old girls down. Heartbroken, but a certain relief as well. Here is a book we found extremely helpful - for the kids and grownups alike. It is a beautiful book (even if it makes me cry just thinking about it) http://www.amazon.com/Dog-Heaven-Cynthia-Rylant/dp/0590417010

On a happier note - vacation is almost here! Hooray for thinning crowds.

So, I have all my laundry done! :laundy: (except the random box I found that didn't get unpacked when we moved, but we're going to pretend it doesn't exist for the time being....:rolleyes1)

I managed to fit all mine and DS's clothes AND a twin size air mattress into a single suitcase, and it's weighing in at 39#. Now I just have to decide which other suitcase I want to bring along. I might wait until DH finishes his packing tonight, because if he has lots of extra space, then we might not need a third for the rest of the stuff I have to pack and for souvenirs on the way back.
We get free bags, so we won't pay more either way.

I'm also trying to decide about diapers. Originally I was planning on just buying some while we have the rental car. I was planning on a grocery stop anyways, so I figured I could pick up diapers too. I'm worried that we'll have to pack the leftovers on the way back, so it may end up being pointless to not just go ahead and pack what we'll need now, especially since we have the space.

Ugh, diapers. It just occurred to me this morning that I'm going to need to pack quite a few. For some reason, that wasn't included in my mental picture of what our suitcases would be like. I was trying to calculate how many, and realized I don't have a good idea of how many DS goes through in a day... which is strange because I'm always the one who changes him, loL! I just don't really think about it. Guess I need to pay attention for the next few days. They will probably fill up most of a small suitcase, but I suppose that will give us plenty of room for souvenirs coming home.

EMH CHANGE FOR AK

Josh also said the morning EMH for AK on the 22nd has been canceled and will be on the 21st instead. So anyone planning to go for the special activities on the 22nd, just be aware that there is no EMH that day now. I based all my morning plans on which park has EMH but I'm not going to change anything at this point. I'll still go to AK. The TA calendar is not showing this change but I do see it when I go to My Disney Experience.

So sorry about your puppy. We had to put our dog down a couple of months before our trip in 2007. It was so hard but Disney is good therapy.
Have a safe trip driving. We leave 3 am Saturday! Woohoo!! :)

I use to snowmobile in Bangor now we drive by it to get to Jackman Maine. You suppose to get snow this weekend too?[/QUOTE]

Supposed to get a tiny bit, won't amount to anything. Just sloppy.
