That would be interesting but I think Brooke should do Jolene. I think he should put his spin on the Dolly/Brad Paisley song "When I Get Where I'm Going".

I think Brooke will do something like Me and Bobby McGee. Something more folksy.

I read the EW.com interview with Chikezie. He was planning to sing 9-5 next week

Here is a great article regarding Chris Cornell on DC performance this week:

Entertainment Weekly recently interviewed Chris Cornell on David Cook and his Top 10 performance of “Billie Jean” Here’s what he told EW:

Were you flattered by the performance?
Very much. It was clear to me [that] he was a big fan as he followed my arrangement down to the T, including the most subtle vocal nuances. I think he did a great job at pulling it off.

Can you tell us a bit about how this cover came to be?
It was a complete reinvention of a song that no one thought would work until they saw me play it in Stockholm acoustically. It received such an enormous reaction that it prompted me to do a studio recording. It ended up on my second solo album, Carry On.

In general, do you find anything disingenuous about Idol contestants doing covers of covers?
This song is a special case, but in general, I don’t think it should be an issue to cover a cover, as long as it’s clear who the creator and/or interpretor of that piece is. I think David’s performance was great and I want to thank all my fans for their dedication!

I like DC's version of it better. Simply because I don't really care for Chris Cornell's voice much.

 (just kidding) Personally, I think Chris Cornell has one of the best voices in rock EVER!! Love, love, love Soundgarden and Audioslave.

Haha. Yeah. Sorry. Just never a big fan.

Chris Cornell needs to get over himself. :rolleyes2

The arrangement, yes. But the "vocal nuances"?? I just listed to both studio versions side by side, line by line, and there are plenty of differences.

I like Chris Cornell. But on this song DC's version has it ALL over CC's!

I though CC was being very nice - he wasn't dissing DC.

I thought he sounded a bit full of himself -- like DC's version "only sounded so great because he followed ME (Chris) so well". (which he really didn't if you actually listen to them side by side). I mean the vocals - not arrangement overall. Obviously this IS Cornell's version. I just do not think they are carbon copies of each other.

He certainly has the right to voice his opionion. And so do I.

I DO like Chris Cornell. But I have to say listening to his voice next to David's like that -- Chris sounds really abrasive. He does more of the rocker scream thing and DC is more subtle. DC's screaming just sounds better. :rotfl:

ETA -- don't you hate when people quote you before you can edit your post? :) dturner, I'm deleting your words from my post -- but I'm still leaving my comments even if they might not make much sense now. :)

Instead of explaining, you can just watch. Start around 3:45 in. I just wanted to give DC a hug after this!

watch this asap. Mandy is right, freemantle is pulling these videos. Off to copy these to my computer so they are not lost forever!

wow, I just watched this and almost don't remember it... except that remark about "no charisma". I actually believed it back then.. :scared1:

I thought the same thing when I read what Chris Cornell said.

I think he was being... for lack of a better term from the original Word Nerd... SNARKY...

Extremely subtle but nasty nonetheless.

He should be on his knees thanking DC and AI for giving him exposure he NEVER could've gotten on his own.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

ETA:

Cornell's version of BJ is #46 on iTunes.

Didn't they say something on AI that the AI singles were not allowed to chart? I wish we could see where their downloads rank among the rest of the music on there.

I thought that Chris Cornell took the high road on this one. (unlike Doxology for Eleanor Rigby) He could've slammed DC for even being on Idol but instead realized that it could be a win win for everyone. I thought it was very classy to post the video on his website. I bet a lot more people are listening to Chris Cornell's music as a result. I am not familiar with him or his other bands but maybe there are songs of his that I have heard and just don't know it.

I do like DC's voice better than Cornell's for this song and like most people, had never heard Billie Jean done by anyone other than MJ. But, I will definitely give huge props though to the originator of this cover.

Hey - thanks for posting all that eye candy last night. Also, Mandy and Kristy - your idol pics were great too!

Who have I liked over the years?

Season 1 and 2 - didn't watch but was vaguely familiar with the concept because my sister mentioned it a few times. I eventually downloaded Kelly's Breakaway because it reminded me of me! :)

Season 3 - did not like Fantasia and thought LaToya was the best but also liked George and Diana.

Season 4 - I loved Bo(wanted him to win) and Carrie and Constantine. His BoRhap was phenomenal. I downloaded a lot of their performance mp3s but did not buy any of their music. This is when I first started really liking Idol.

Season 5 - I loved Taylor because he was so entertaining and wanted him to win. I liked Chris D and thought it should've been a Taylor/Chris finale. For the most part, I liked everyone but Kat, Kevin and Paris. I downloaded some of the mp3s and agree with Dan that Levon was great. I did not buy any music but when Daughtry comes on the radio, I fight with my daughter over the station. She doesn't feel the love. Ace was the only one I had a slight crush on but knew he wouldn't win.

Season 6 - weakest of all the seasons I have watched. I didn't really care who won at all. I liked Blake's originality but would never buy any of his music. It's just not my thang Dawgs. I thought Phil had a good voice but he did not do bald well. If I was home I watched last year, but if not, then I didn't record it. I did not watch Idol Gives Back but I might've been in Disney though. Good excuse, right?

Season 7 - I caught some/not all of the audition shows but other than recognizing faces and some back stories, I didn't really form any opinions. I decided I wasn't going to love anyone unless they made it to the TOP 24. Fast forward to Tuesday, February 19. My daughter and I were on a Jetblue flight and waited on the Tarmac at JFK airport for at least an hour before we took off for home. (quick college visit to NYCity) Luckily, Jetblue has tv's so I was able to watch the entire show except for a few minutes at the beginning. It was the performance of Happy Together and his introductory video that started my love for all things DC. Thanks to youtube, I was able to go back and really look at all the auditons and Hollywood week. The clip where David makes it to the Top 24 is one of my favorites. I long to hear the rest of his final audition from Hollywood (I'll Be) where Simon said it was terrific. I would also like to see DC wear those pants again. :woohoo: I don't even mind his hair because my dh and boys have very fine hair like that and I actually thought it looked better than it did in Hollywood. And, the rest, as they say is history.

Other than KLC, I don't mind anyone there but know that DC should be in the finals this year. If not, then I will be extremely disappointed. I will buy his music and have downloaded one of his songs from when he was in Axium. I haven't had the time to really listen to his Analog Heart cd but since I'm not working this weekend, I think it will be on my agenda. ;)

Since everyone loves DC right now let's all take a guess at what Dolly Parton song he will sing next week.

I choose the White Stripes version of Jolene. ;)
That sounds like a perfect pick but I'd bet that there will be quite a bit of competition among the contestants for the right to sing Jolene. Let's see who wins it!

I'd like to put my two cents in for my favorite idols. I only started watching AI in Season 4 so I really can't comment on S1-S3 other than to say that I really like Kelly Clarkson and have several of her recordings.

Season 4 - Bo Bice was definitely my favorite. I liked Carrie Underwood a lot too. A voted for both of them through most of the competition but when it came down to Bo vs. Carrie, I voted for Bo. I loved Vonzell Solomon that year also. In fact, they were my favorite top three. I liked Nadia Turner too.

Season 5 - This was easily my overall favorite season. I voted for so many of these kids; I didn't want any of them to go home! Chris Daughtry became my overall favorite but I started out loving Mandisa and Lisa Tucker. During that season I also voted for Bucky, Ace, Kellie, Paris, Elliott and Taylor! I absolutely HATED Katherine McPhee.

Season 6 - LaKisha was far and away my favorite. I also loved Chris Sligh but I had a soft spot for Stephanie Edwards as she's local to my area. She went home way too soon. :(

Overall my favorite idol was Bo Bice.
