Sounds like Paula is doing all the entertaining! ;)

Yeah, so much so that DH kept asking me "what's she on"? I think he finally concluded that she probably had vodka in her coke cup.

Paula! She is such a spaz. Has anyone noticed that clap of hers? It's like she's two years old and just learning how to make her hands clap.

You know I've been thinking how weird her baby clap thing is, too and I just remembered that she had a terrible staph infection from a bad manicure. So maybe she has pain in her fingers? :confused3

She's clapped like that since the first season. She's afraid to use her palms.

I didn't get to watch and forgot to tape. Does anyone remember the songs that everyone sung?

Scott - The Impossible Dream from Man of LaMancha
Constantine - My Funny Valentine from Babes in Arms
Carrie - Hello Young Lovers from The King and I
Bo - Corner of the Sky from Pippin
Nadia - As Long as He Needs Me from Oliver
Nikko - One Hand One Heart from West Side Story
Vonzell - People from Funny Girl
Anthony - Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music
Anwar - If Ever I Would Leave You from Camelot

Haven't read all the posts about last night, yet, but here are my impressions (and, keep in mind, I'm "into" musicals, as is DW, so we know what all of those songs are supposed to sound like ;) ) : (and thanks to phisigprincess since I don't have to write all of these out now :teeth: )

Scott - The Impossible Dream from Man of LaMancha - :earseek: HORRID !!! HORRENDOUS !!! AUDITORY TORTURE !!! Would have gotten him voted off even before the news arrived about the domestic violence thing.

Constantine - My Funny Valentine from Babes in Arms - I expected he would do really well when they announced the "theme", and wasn't dissappointed. Not a huge fan, but he's definitely getting better each week.

Carrie - Hello Young Lovers from The King and I - I know there are those here that don't like her, but I'm sorry, this girl is a superstar in the making. After hearing this performance, I had to go back to what Simon said a few weeks ago: she will not only win the competition, she'll sell more records on her initial album (I added that part, since Kelly has been so successful with her new album) than any other Idol winner to date (and probably DOUBLE what the last two have sold).

Bo - Corner of the Sky from Pippin Ok, I know Simon didn't like it, and I usually make it a point not to disagree with him, since he's usually right. Not this time. Bo was out of his element with this theme, but he came through with flying colors. Probably my second favorite of the night (and the competition) behind Carrie.

Nadia - As Long as He Needs Me from Oliver Ok, this was a pretty good performance, but she does not have the power in her voice to really belt that song out the way it is supposed to be sung. It showed at the end when she 1) changed the final line to shorten the words, and 2) didn't sustain the final note. Good, but hardly "great".

Nikko - One Hand One Heart from West Side Story Sorry, I hate hip-hop, and ruining a decent song by "updating" it doesn't impress me much.

Vonzell - People from Funny Girl Pretty good performance from Vonzell. I'm not over-the-moon about her the way some people seem to be, but she's definitely better than most of the rest of the competition.

Anthony - Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music Yeah...no. He's definitely ready for a turn in some crappy boy-band though. Definitely got "that look" about him these days.

Anwar - If Ever I Would Leave You from Camelot Sorry, I'm just not on the Anwar bandwagon. And Paula saying he had the best voice in the competition just goes to show why people should NOT take drugs recreationally ;) Seriously, he wasn't "bad", but he wasn't "good" either.

All in all, an enjoyable night for a fan of Broadway music. Personally, I think Scott is going home, and Anwar and Anthony should be in the bottom three with him.

Thanks!

I can't imagine anyone singing this but Julie Andrews.

I think it was the mother superior that sang this one to Maria....

Yes, Mother Superior. One of my favorite movies of all time. I'm still in shock as to what he did to the song.

Who was the best last night: Constantine!!!!

Who is going home tonight: Scott

Yeah, I have to admit Constantine was very good last night (and he's not one of my favorites).

I was so thinking about you last night when he was singing. ;) He was honestly the best to me too, but I voted for Anwar and Vonzell, who I also loved. I figure Constantine was pretty safe with the votes already - no need. ;)

Carrie didn't do so well last night but I still think she is the next ai. I would prefer the other blond headed that got voted off last night( can't remember her name right now). :cool1:

Last night was the first night that I've ever voted for anyone on AI EVER!!!

I always heard that it was hard to get through but last night I got through on the first call, is it ever hard to get through to vote?

I'm really torn with this AI thing - I don't USUALLY like AI, not my cup of tea and I'm not sure if I want Constantine to win or not - I'd rather see him do well, in the top 5 then go back to his band and tour or do more musicals!!!

Here's my rankings...........

Constantine - did the best, imho I do love the "look in the camera" thing, but I think the other contestants were doing it on purpose or hoping to connect in that way. It certainly didn't look natural for anyone else.

Bo, Carrie, Vonzell - second best of the night -
Bo and Carrie - could've chosen better but maybe there wasn't much to choose from

Vonzell - I actually think she sang this better than Streisand and was very bold to attempt it. (disclaimer - I'm not a BS fan at all so I know my opinion probably isn't shared by many) I think she took Simon's advice weeks ago to distinguish herself from the "middle of the pack"

Anwar, Nikko, Anthony and Scott - definitely the bottom of the group

I think I'm still in shock over Anthony's song choice - weird is the only way I can describe the arrangement. It sort of reminded me of how some singers have to rework their songs when they can no longer hit the high notes. I think Rogers and Hammerstein were wearing earplugs in heaven for that one. LOL

Anwar - seems stunned when he gets a Paula compliment and always thinks Simon is complimenting him. His smile is genuine, but his time is limited on the show. I expected greater things from him at the beginning of the season though.

Scott - I think this is his week to go. The last few weeks have been bad. I don't think his voice is holding up as well as it did in the beginning.

I do want to say though, that all of the finalists this year are all very talented and will find their niches after the show. (record deals, theatre, cabaret, etc.)

I too think Carrie should win AI - I think she fits the AI model, if you know what I mean and has a GREAT voice.

She just needs to relax a little more on stage, she's looks scared to death.

It's hit or miss. Sometimes you get a busy signal for a while, and sometimes you get in right away. I've never waited more than 5 minutes to get through.

I still say if he doesn't become the AI or cut his own album, he'll be the next detective on CSI or one of those shows. He's got that street cop undercover look - someone's gonna snap him up. ;)

I agree that someone is going to snap him up to do something. Oh yea, I haven't thought about that. Undercover street cop - remember Johnny Depp in 21 Jump Street??? I loved that show.

Okay, I'm not trying to dog Constantine (well, maybe I am), but am I the only one that thinks he has a chicken face? He has a small chin with that big cleft in it and it looks bizarre to me. I like his singing, but can do without his theatrics. I mean who didn't think it was cheesy when he did the karate kick during the group song last week? It was "Everything is Beautiful" by Ray Stevens, for goodness sake. He was one of my favorites in the beginning even though I didn't find him remotely attracting (long hair isn't my thing), but now, he is just ooging me out.

It is getting much harder to choose some over others to stay. That being said, Anthony DEFINITELY needs to go home. Of all of the performances, his was definitely the weakest (and for that matter, the most cheesy!). I also didn't like the choice of song that Carrie picked. With all of the beautiful ballads in musical theatre for a woman with a voice like hers, why she picked that I will never understand! She didn't even stay in tempo with the accompaniment! They were my bottom 2 for the week.

Constantine was fantastic. He is probably the most versitile of all of the performers up there. He has truly grown on me more every week. He definitely gets my vote. (Besides, he looks like Gary Sinese, and that isn't bad AT ALL!)

Nadia was fantastic w/ her performance of "As Long As He Needs Me". It suited her voice perfectly, and was very well done. Vonzell is another who seems to get better by the week. I was VERY impressed w/ her rendition of "People".

Anwar... this is definitely one of his stronger weeks. His voice is very much suited to songs in this genre. I could just see him on stage playing Lancelot!

I wasn't impressed w/ Nikko this week. He did not do any justice to his song at all.

Bo could have done so many other good selections, but choose to sing something from Pippin. "Corner of the Sky" is boring at best, and I couldn't understand his lyrics. He would have been better suited to something from Jesus Christ Superstar or Hair. His voice would have been a better fit.

Scott did a good job with "The Impossible Dream", but I don't know it is was enough to put him above Constantine, Nadia, Vonzell or Anwar.

My picks from top to bottom:
Constantine
Nadia
Anwar
Vonzell
Scott
Bo
Nikko
Carrie
Anthony
