Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

I've finally decided on costumes:). 5k will be Anna to go with DD6's obvious Elsa choice. My mom will be Olaf. 10k will be Maleficent, the half will be Princess Leia. I was Ariel for 10k and Aurora for the half last year, so wanted to go in different directions. My costumes are more themed running gear with an accessory or two than all out costumes. I still worry about comfort level because I'm still relatively new to running.

My sister is looking at being Princess Leia for the 10k, Lilo for the half. A functional costume is priority number one for me.

I love hearing about everyone's costumes! I just got a $50 victorias secret reward card so I am using it to get my race gear! I keep going back and forth between tights or shorts. I know Feb. is kind of unpredictable. So my best guess so far is shorts and tank are the way to go. But from what I can find (and remember from this thread), race weather the last couple of years was around 65-70 and humid?

It is harder with planning a "costume" with the chance the weather throws a curveball in that weird time of year. So, while I am pretty sure the answer here is a yes, I should be able to pick up some running sleeves/tall socks at the expo that would more or less match in the event of a weather surprise, yes? I haven't really looked for much other than sweaty bands and copious amounts of biofreeze at other expos :rotfl: And I am going down a week early so a lot of time for weather to change after I pack and arrive.

BTW - if anyone needs one of my zillion individual packets of said biofreeze, be sure to stop the girl in all bright pepto pink clothing with Rapunzel length bright red hair. I share!

I live in FL so I am used to this ever changing weather we have. For arm warmers, I buy knee high socks at Walmart ($4) to match my outfit and cut off the foot. I use them if its chilly to start and don't care if I have to throw them down if I get too hot. Girls tights work too, and they are available in bunches of colors. ;)
I also have 3 pair of compression calf sleeves and 2 pair of compression socks that I take and use whichever matches best if its going to be colder than 55-66 degrees. I have a really hard time running in tights, I don't like it at all :upsidedow

The upside of training in New England is no matter how "cold" it is in Florida, it likely will feel warm to me. Takes a bit of guessing out of the costume planning. Tank and shorts or skirt will be my goto. I ran 8 in 7 degrees the other day. And it will only get colder. 40s would feel balmy to me;). Worst case scenario is a throwaway top.

On the other hand, this years 65 and 100% for the half and 70 with 100% humidity for the 10k (per my garmin) felt like a sauna. So all my planning focuses on staying cool:) I do run indoors once a week in my oddly warm gym, so I don't forget how to cope with warmer temps on the run entirely.

Your ideas all are great for any last minute additions I need. I'll be with family for 3 days before heading to WDW for the race, so if I need to run and get something to add to my costume last second due to extremely cold conditions these tips will be very helpful. Wouldn't want to spend a ton at the expo for stuff I'd likely get little use out of.

I live in California, but I get so hot when I run! I have run in below freezing weather in short sleeves. I wore a short-sleeved shirt and capris. I packed throwaway sweats but didn't even bring them to the race. It was so hot!

I thought running in 30 degrees was bad! I will use you for inspiration when I am running! I was also assuming that the actual race can't be colder than what I am training in!

By the way for those looking for running clothes, so many sites are having clearances right now. I got 2 long sleeve running shirts at Sierra trading post for $10 each.

Yes, but Feb. is TOTALLY unpredictable until maybe a week out, and even then it's iffy! 70 and humid is likely, but so is 30 and dry. What you wear mostly depends on how your body handles various temps - my advice is always to think about what you would wear in temps ranging from 25-80 and plan layers that can accommodate anything in that range.

Hee hee, FL gal here, too, and I do the same thing! :thumbsup2

:faint: I ran in long sleeves and capris the other night and was okay while actively running, but got badly chilled on my cool-down walk... it was 58*. :rotfl: I'm not quite acclimated to 95* anymore, but I'm definitely not acclimated to lower than 65 yet, either. ;)

It's almost time to make our fp reservations, so we are attempting to plan out our days. Will there be buses from the parks to wws to pick up the race packets? To/from all the resorts?
.

I'm pretty sure it is just the hotels.

Just resorts..not the parks. Although there used to be a bus that traveled between HS and WWSC..you would have to check as I haven't used it for a couple of years.
But if you were visiting the MK you could take the monorail to one of the monorail resorts pretty quickly and catch a bus to WWSC.

I just bought the first piece of my costume! I am NOT going as my avatar, lol. Going as my fave princess, Ariel. I just bought mermaid leggings, trying to decide if I am ballsy enough to do a purple crop for the top or if I want to wear a real shirt. I'm probably going to do a red hair scarf rather than a full wig, just for running ease.

Now I just need to complete my training so I can actually run the darn thing!! hahaha

My sister and I are working on our costumes now too!

Although I'm run down with a cold, so no running for me this weekend. My knee is just starting to get better and now I have a cold! I'm not usually one to have such bad luck :(

I might get out for a walk around the block at least today, the sun is shining here.

I received the first piece of my costume over the weekend...plus, I ran 10 miles on Saturday. That's the furthest I've gone since high school cross country! 65 days to go!

Wow, that's fantastic! 10 is going to be a big milestone for me, I know. I was doing so much better in the fall, and made it to 9, but I've been really slacking lately!! Haven't run yet this week, but need to get back on track. Hopefully once the holidays are over, I'll be more consistent :thumbsup2

I'm excited for PHM Weekend! I'm doing the 5k & 10k and really wish I signed up for the HM for the GSC, but there's always next year. Now that we're getting closer, I can't wait to touch base with all of you to see how we progress in the last 60 days!:)

Hey all! I hope everyone's training and plan is going well!

I have a quick question about the buses for the 5K -
I know buses pick up at the hotel and I assume they drop you off somewhere near the start corrals. Where do buses pick up after the race? Is it near where they dropped you off? Closer to the finish line? Or do you just take the regular resort buses back to your hotel?

This is my first RunDisney race (my first race at all since I was like 8), so any guidance on the logistics would be greatly appreciated.

For the 5K, the start and finish is all in the same parking lot. I don't remember if buses drop off and pick up in exactly the same place, but it's all in the same area - which is not the usual EP bus area. A large chunk of EPs far parking lots is turned over to the start/finish/staging area for the weekend's races and everything race-related happens in there.

Thank you!! I knew that start and finish were both Epcot parking lots, I wasn't sure if it's the same lot - I think that will make it easier for me to not get lost (I'm a little bit navigationally-impaired). I'm sure there will be plenty of signs once I get there, but it's nice to have the information in advance. Thanks!
