Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

Hi everyone! This will be my first half marathon. I put 3:30 for how long it will take me. I know ill run it faster but since its my first one I thought that i was supposed to put that. Should I have put 3:16 to be not placed in the last corral or since I haven't run will it not matter. i hope I'm not in the last one now :(

Well you have a couple of months to do a 10k and get an offical time and submit it. I don't think they care what you put if you submit a time later.

I submitted a 3:15 time. I did one 10k but it won't bring me up much (it was hot and I forgot my gel pack so I ran it in 13:30.) I'm doing another one next month hoping for less hot, and better prep my running bag.

I'm also looking for a turkey trot 10k that is timed.

Yep! That's the one! :) I'm in Central PA, but have family in the 'burgh, so it was an easy choice. There aren't many 10k certified races around that time of year! I haven't done it before, but have read great things about it. I'm hoping its a fast course. My DH is going to run with me and try to push/drag me along to go as fast as I can! I'm probably going to be ready to slug him by the end!

When is this race? Do you know how much fees are? We have family North of the city and if this is a fast course it may be better than the 10k I was planning on

Did I read this right that you walked through Epcot back to the Boardwalk hotels after the 10K?

I was hoping to do that next year, but it looks like the park doesn't open until 9. With a 5:30 start time, I expect to be done before 8. Did they let you in with a park ticket before opening? Thanks -- Suzanne

No took the bus for the 10K, and was able to walk from the finish to the hotel for the 1/2.

They will spread people out in the last few, if they do it like last year. I estimated 3:15 when I registered last year, without proof of time, and was placed in M. I believe the corrals stopped at P. So, I would assume that a 3:30 time would put you toward the back.

I was in M too, with no proof of time. But I have completed races before, including one Disney race. That may have made a difference.

When did they start this?

I believe it was when they opened Wine and Dine or Avengers for registration, just a few months ago.

After half an hour yesterday dealing with Active I finally signed up for my first half and first RunDisney race! I'm soooo excited ... And nervous!

Only half an hour? You lucked out! Don't be nervous! You have plenty of time to prepare!

It's September 28th, fees are $33/person. That's a bargain compared to the $181 we dropped yesterday! ;) Sign up soon if you're going to - I read yesterday on their Facebook page that there were less than 2,000 spots open. I think they accept 16,000(?). I am hoping for good weather and a quick course!

Good luck if you decide to run!

I'm already working on costumes. Any non princessy suggestions?

Awesome! That's so cool - really is a small world :goodvibes

I just did the 5K last year, but it was a great course - just one slight uphill. Lots of energy in the race too. My main concern is weather - last year was perfect, low 60s, no humidity. But Pittsburgh weather is always iffy!

Best of luck to you :thumbsup2

A gal in my running club on FB just posted this tee, and I thought y'all would like it, lol:

I found a really cool Pocahontas running outfit on Etsy, but it's a bit pricey. Normally I just wear a running tank & running skirt with a tutu over it (in my Princess' theme), but I may just spring for a complete running outfit that's designed for a specific princess this time around. Not sure if it'll make me sad to run tutu-less, though, since I've rocked a tutu at 3 past PHMs.

I am so updet that this sold out so quickly. I've been planning on this being my first 13.1 and now I don't know what to do. Does it normally sell out this fast? Is there any chance this is a glitch and they will add more registrations? I have lost all my motivation to keep running since this is what I was training for.
Not a glitch - races in general, and Disney races in particular, are VERY popular and sell out fast these days. There are spots available through charities and travel agents, though - don't give up!! (see below...)

Get with Jim stone at Acclaim! He is a Disney travel agent. I bet he still has spots!!

I know others will disagree, but... I strongly suggest entering what you think you'll actually run. Entering a time faster than that could seed you with folks who really will run it faster, creating frustration for both you and them.

That said, you have lots of time to pick up some speed and to race a 10K to submit for proof of time. If you do go that route, submit your proof with a note explaining that you'd like to submit a new estimated finish time, too.

My friends who are doing the gsc asked what princess I picked and there wasn't an option for me to pick one, is that just for the 1/2?? I'm only running the 10K. Thanks!
The past 2 (maybe more) years, we were asked to select a princess during registration. Not this year, so it looks like they'll be doing something different with bibs.

I am so with you!!! I have had this in my calendar as a reminder and looked at it yesterday, but between work and school, didnt look at it again until this morning... I am just heartbroken. My daughter and I had a blast last year, and i was stepping up for the glass slipper challenge....
Try travel agents and charities - don't write it off yet!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: So.... you're in, I gather? ;)

I've been waffling all over the place, but think I'm going with:
Fireside Girl - 5K
Minnie - 10K
Ariel - half

These could change 20 more times before Feb, of course.

I'm not really a costume person. I prefer to wear some kind of cute shirt with words on it and brightly colored pants, with my Team Sparkle tiara visor. I have the pants. Now the hunt begins for shirts!

I have more of a general running question: I started using the Galloway app last week and around that time I began to get very, very sore. Not just in my legs, which I expected, but pain in my ankles, hips, and back too. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm pretty new to running so I really don't know if this is normal or not.

Another question! I have severe social anxiety and though I'm determined to do do the race even though I know there are some crazy crowds, I want to be prepared. Could anyone fill me in on what the crowds are like during, before, and after the race? I've never run a half marathon before either so I'm wondering if I'll be okay during the race. I'm very nervous about people seeing me when I'm running. There isn't a big cloud of judgement hanging over the runners, is there? These probably sound like dumb questions but any information could be really helpful in my avoiding a panic attack.

Oh, and I really want to get pictures with some characters during the run! Meeting them is wry quick, right? A picture and then you're on your way?

What kind of shoes are you in? How old are your shoes? Were you fitted for running shoes at your local running store (the Athlete's Foot, Point2, etc), or are they shoes you purchased on your own from a sporting goods store (Dick's, Sport Authority, etc)?

No one is judging everyone is focused on what they are doing.

Not to worry you but you'll be in a corral with about 2k other people just milling around till it's your time to leave, when it's time everyone kinda "packs up" to the front. But until then it's like a outdoor music festival, they have music playing, and there are people sitting and stretching, and people psyching themselves up and groups chatting...

Getting pictures is something I've never managed. The queues for the characters can get long, and I really can't stop wait in a queue, get a picture taken and then start running again get back up to speed, rinse repeat. I even try to run though the water stops.. by passing the first line (for some reason there is always a line of people at the head end of the water stop) if you go down 2-3 volunteers they are generally just standing there with water. Grab one and keep running...

What kind of discounts can you usually get booking a travel package with a TA for Princess Half weekend? Are we talking 30% off rack rate, or are the savings usually based on combining tickets with room?

I've booked a good rate with the Dolphin, but I'm curious if I could get a comparable rate at one of the Epcot resorts, which would then allow for the use of ME.

Hi all! I just realized that when I registered the other day I somehow picked the wrong shirt size for myself. Am I able to change that? How?
