Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

Well I have to come all the way from Vancouver, and there aren't any direct flights from there, only from Seattle and very few from there! It looks like we'll be able to get there for under $500 though, anyone have a preference between American and US Airways? My training is going well, I'm trying not to burn myself out over the next 6 months though! I don't want to end up hating running  Ran 10k on the weekend, and 5k yesterday, mostly feeling pretty good. I'd like to work on my pace a bit, but I think it's probably more important for me to work on my distance!

It has been my experience that if you work on the distance, the speed will come. I worry a lot more about endurance.

Curious to know if anyone has had family try and grab breakfast at GF, Poly, or Chef Mickeys at 7am while the race is going on. I figured they could ride the monorail over to MK to see me run down main street, then go to one of the resorts to grab breakfast, then monorail back to Epcot for the finish? I'll be finishing the race around 8:15 If things start on time. Is that enough time?

Arrived back from CSR late Saturday night. My family would stay there again. Especially, if there is a convention going on. The conventioneers aren't on the buses, so buses are empty going to the parks. The feeling of the resort is very laid back. More families were coming toward the end of our stay, so buses were busier.

I'm looking for a race for my sister in NY. Can someone post the link to check if a race qualifies. Thanks. I don't know if it was shown in this thread or another.

I have not been to PHM weekend, but for what it's worth, from what I have read online the monorail is very busy around race time with spectators trying to see their family and friends at different stops. Most blogs said around a 30 min wait. They could maybe do a quick service breakfast and take it with them? I would say definite no to character breakfasts though.

Edited as I found the thread explaining that starting with the 2015 Princess 5k there is a minimum age requirement of 5 years old.

Thanks

Lisa

What is everyone thinking they'll be able to accomplish after the run? I was thinking we'd head back to our resort til noon or so to nap and/or lay by the pool and eat (yay, smoothies at AoA!) But I'm hoping we'll have the energy for some touring time in the afternoon, I was thinking Epcot, mostly Future World. Thoughts?

Quick snack at AOA while everyone showers or takes a mini-ice bath, then hit a park (probably Epcot) for an early lunch and rides. Early dinner at our favorite restaurant. Definitely a post race cupcake in the mix.:thumbsup2

This year, I went back to the hotel, took a shower and an ice bath, and took a nap. Then I went to Epcot, wandered in World Showcase for a little bit, and ate dinner. Then I went to DTD to check out the party and got my discounted cupcake at Babycakes!

I did a cool dip in the bath, showered, changed and ate lunch at Raglan Road around 1pm. Then hit Hollywood Studios. I needed to keep moving but didn't want to be in Norway and have to make my way all the way around the showcase if I needed to leave the park. The kids rode rides at DHS while I just kept moving. Sitting and then getting back up was the hardest, my legs would stiffen up big time.
Personally if I had laid down to take a nap I probably would not have been able to get out of bed.

I had to go back to my FB time line to see what I did this year, lol!

Okay, post-5K, I went back to my room to shower and change, planning to hit a ride or 2 at MK... but after my shower, I sat down on the bed to rest a few minutes and wound up taking a nap! Got myself up after a couple hours, had lunch, went to a running group meet-up at the Poly, and grabbed an early dinner there after.

Post-10K, I showered and changed, rested a bit, then went to EP for lunch and a little strolling; nothing too crazy. An early dinner again, and in bed by 7pm.

Post-half was NUTS! I had RR, so I went there first to eat, stretch, relax a bit. Then back to my room for the fastest shower I've ever taken, and a speedy drive to MK for medal pics I think my turn around from leaving RR to arriving at the MK gate was about 45 mins, lol! I was BEAT after that and from 3 days of early mornings: went back to my hotel, enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch there, then wandered over to DHS for a couple rides. I didn't last long, and was in bed early.

I felt pretty good the next day, after about 12 hours of sleep. :thumbsup2 Tackled a few rides at AK before driving home.

It was a LOT of down time, and that's how I planned it. I know how lack of adequate sleep affects me, so I wanted to take things easy. I spent a lot of time in my room each day, stretching, rolling, getting things ready for the next race. The times I did go to the parks were limited to a couple hours.

Hey! Sounds like we're on the same track :) Race you to the smoothie bar :thumbsup2 We weren't sure if we should book a celebratory dinner the night of the race or if we'd be too wiped out to enjoy it, so I think we'll do it the next night instead. Was thinking of maybe walking up to Tutto Gusto that night instead so we're not tied to a reservation anywhere!

DISCOUNTED CUPCAKES?!?! Why did I not know about this? :rotfl2: Ok, I will try to get a cupcake too.

That's why I was thinking of avoiding World Showcase, I feel trapped on the far side at the best of times!

Good ol' facebook! Okay, so since you're a superstar doing all three races, I will assume I'll feel the same way you felt after the half, even though that'll be my only race. I'm not good on not much sleep either, usually makes me feel a bit ill. So I don't think I'll try to race to MK, although pics with our medals in the MK does sound like a really good idea!

Thanks everyone, thinking I'll be able to handle my plan :goodvibes

The discounted cupcake info was in that virtual gift bag, or whatever that thing was called.

So, I am in need of advice again. The doctor says I am experiencing occasional muscle cramping due to muscle fatigue. I am still trying to figure out the cause, but I know it isn't overtraining. I need to get moving, because sitting still isn't good either, but what do I do? Has anyone dealt with this issue before?

Hi Everyone! I thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce myself and jump in and join the conversation!

My name is Kat and I am registered for the Glass Slipper Challenge and could not be more excited! I am also registered for the Rebel Challenge in Disneyland in January, so I am thrilled to get my C2C in Florida this February!!! Bring on the 7 medals (and aches and pains to go along with that).

A little background on myself. I have completed the Disneyland 5K in 2012, the DL 10K in 2013 and the Tinkerbell Half Marathon this past January. I am doing the Disneyland 10K again in just a few short weeks. My only goal with this race is to get a good enough time to not be in the last corral at the Star Wars weekend and PHM. :goodvibes

As for the running itself, I consider myself more of a "shuffler" than a runner. I am by no means fast, still pacing at about 12:30-13/mile with anything longer than a 5K.

I just reserved my room at Port Orleans Riverside and I am soooo excited to start trip planning. I will be going to Florida (I live in Northern California) by myself on the Thursday before the festivities and then I have a friend flying in on Saturday evening. As of now, our plan is to do the World Showcase post PHM. I know it's a lot of walking, but it's hard to resist all the food around (not to mention some celebratory cocktails!). We then plan to have a girls' week at WDW. My husband is bummed not to be able to join us, so I am trying not to constantly talk about it - like I would like! hehe :laughing:

Welcome! You can constantly talk about it here! That is what we do. :)

Btw, 12-13 min/mile is a great pace! If you submit a time, you should stay well ahead of the balloon ladies!

After the 10K we went back the the resort and napped, then went to an early dinner in Downtown Disney and hit the runner store to grab some needed things. After the half we did the same thing, except it was more of me hobbling to the resort because I did damage to my knee and it was wrapped and iced. After a nap and treating my knee (sitting in a tub of cold water brrrr!) we grabbed dinner at Chef Mickey's. We weren't concerned with the parks because we spent the week after the races in the parks, which is out plan for this time around as well,

I also spent the following week in the parks. I highly recommend it if possible.
