Official 2020 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend - CANCELED

This should also put a dagger for the parks opening in April as well

That was already there. Today they told CP people due to report before April 20th to "stand by" so even before the CDC announcement they were not thinking april 1 was going to be an opening date.

Cancelled my DVC reservation today - tomorrow is our 31 day mark and I don't want to risk losing the points if DVC decides to be difficult about it (like if the resort is open but the parks aren't so they won't put the points back into the use year). If by some miracle the race is still on, hopefully I can grab a cash reservation somewhere or (gasp) stay off site.

I am rather disappointed in rD for their complete silence on this - I did email them and never heard back, also commented on one of their SW posts on FB and no reply. Even just a "we are currently monitoring the situation and will make a decision by X date" would be something.

I would hope that they would reschedule but the calendar and the Florida heat don't make that easy to do, so I'm not counting on it. :sad2:

rD will likely wait until Disney officially extends the park closure.

I think you are right but would be nice to know sooner rather then later. The uncertainly isn't fun but then for some of us this is the second time through uncertainly with star wars races. lol Though I think this one is going to end the same. :-(

My preferred solution is a night race in october that ends at HS with an afterparty at GE. Not gonna happen I know but would be a ton of fun.

With CDC now saying no gatherings of 50+ for the next 8 weeks (as opposed to 200+ for the next 2) it’s a matter of when not if an extension of the closure will be announced however before I thought it would extend till Monday after Easter (April 13) now I’m thinking 8 weeks from Florida closure brings us to Monday after Mother’s Day (May 11th)

it will be interesting as while I’m not running Star Wars a Local running event was moved from 4/18 to 5/9 with 5/9 already having another local race planned which I’m actually running (mine is a night race in a different venue from the rescheduled one) it will be curious to see if they get rescheduled/canceled from the later date

They published this on the site, that any reservation cancelled would be placed in the current use year, not holding. The one thing they did not address was whether or not banking deadlines would be waived for cancelled reservations and expiring points.

Saw this on Twitter... don’t know if this is real but the posted email had a Rundisney rep’s name. I’m sure this is the generic line they are instructed to give for now.. but I think no response would have been better than this email, if true7C469BF9-3269-4DFE-A64E-F493192B3E32.jpeg

Resort hotels will close at 5:00 PM on March 20. Disney Springs will close beginning March 17.

Only a matter of time before the race gets cancelled.

Disney Stores are closing as well.
I hope it gets postponed instead of cancelled. I have an outfit ordered to wear and really want to wear it for the race.

But when could they postpone too? You don’t want to run a half marathon after April in Florida until mid-October at least and even then it’s terrible.

So, October? I love the night race idea ending in Hollywood Studios @Krandor suggested, but I'm guessing we will hear some options like gift card, deferral, etc.

I personally would prefer it not get rescheduled for October. I already have one marathon rescheduled from April 26th to October 4th, and I am signed up for another marathon October 18th. I had planned on a half Marathon on October 3rd, but since I haven’t signed up yet for it and the marathon got moved to the day after, I’m undecided. I was going to try and use that half as a new POT race. Decisions...

Yes, I have lived in FL since 2004 and have NEVER adjusted. My thought is they could move it to sometime in October or even early December. I don't feel that October is that much different than April, but it's still in Hurricane season. December would be my preference. Or how about the weekend after Wine and Dine, 2 birds with one stone? I am local, so I won't have resort reservations for either one (I signed up for SW 10k and W&D 10k this year).

I'm slowly working through the posts I missed over the weekend, but want to share this:

The state of Florida is basically closing to tourism. I live in an area that is in its peak season, where our local population triples with snowbirds and tourists. Before Disney announced the closing of its resorts, restaurants, and stores, our local attractions had already announced closures: museums, aquariums, zoos, theme parks, etc. I anticipate more non-Disney resort, restaurant and store closures coming very soon.

PSA: please do not come down here to visit! We are basically not open for business. Our stores can't keep up with demand with all the extra visitors hoarding goods. Our healthcare system will be overwhelmed quickly by visitors falling ill, in addition to our residents in need of care. I am far from being an alarmist, as I think you've all seen in this thread, but my state is like a ticking time bomb and we need people to take things seriously, please.

At a personal level, I haven't canceled my resort reservation yet. I don't have airfare or a package or tickets in the mix, so I can afford to wait. I fully anticipate the race being canceled, and if it is, I won't be going to WDW, but I got a really good rate and am loathe to let go of it until I'm 100% certain, lol!

Hang in there, SW friends. More info to come soon, I'm sure.

That would be a disaster for us as my husband works in retail and thus would lose his ability to maintain his legacy status. The weekend of Wine & Dine is generally the last weekend he's allowed to take off until Marathon Weekend. We'll see what happens and adjust accordingly.

I grew up in Florida so I'm used to our heat. My husband also easily adjusted despite being from New England. I just would never recommend running if you aren't adjusted for it as heat stroke is real.
