@Dis_Yoda - which race do you recommend more for stopping and taking pictures, the 10k or half? (if you're only planning on stopping for one of the races)

Saw Rogue One last night, and no spoilers, I'm pleased with my Jyn Erso race costume for the 10K. Hope you all get a chance to enjoy it soon, if you haven't already!

Watching it tomorrow night! Hope it's good because I've got tickets for Tuesday too!

Rogue One was so amazing!!! No spoilers but everyone has to see it! Even more excited about the light side now - they better have some Rogue One stuff out there!!!

Hi all!

I'm doing the half and my wife is doing the 10K next month. This will be our second runDisney event (we did the Wine and Dine half/10k last month).

Any ideas when we might get our corrals? I presume it must be in the next week or two?

Also, for those that have done races in both Florida and California, how does the atmosphere differ? We loved the energy and excitement of the Wine and Dine. I noticed this thread seems a fair bit quieter, but I'm hoping race day atmosphere is the same? The route last year looks like it went through some residential areas - was there enough going on to keep motivated?

Thanks!

Probably not until 10 days before the event - I'd be shocked if it was before then. RunDisney is a bit slower than other race organizations in getting information out there (ie: medals, course, merch, etc).

I got confirmation that my race shirts shipped and will be here in time for the Big Event! Now I just need to order the rest of my costume - calf sleeves and Sparkle Athletic skirt. So much to do and so little time (and money). Really wish Xmas wasn't next weekend :P

I wanna see!

Okay @dis_or_dat -- here's what I am wearing:

For one of the races - White tank, Sparkly Soul silver headband, white Sparkle Skirt, and white sleeves. Suppose to feel Leia Inspired.

And then for the other race, I felt that I would go with something a little funny since I am trained (16 halfs in 2016!) - but I loved the shirt :P
Raw Threads "Lack of Training" racer back, Sparkly Soul black headband, black Sparkle skirt, and black sleeves.

I'm on the fence of which race will be which - I'm thinking black for the 10K and the white for the half since it'll be better for the sun exposure. Plus Leia is on the medal and why not be "Leia" for the "I DID IT" pics with the medal to match.

I did Tink last year at DL but no WDW races. The atmosphere was awesome at Tink! I had done a RnR race the month before (first race ever) and there was almost no atmosphere at all due to sound ordinances etc and I sort of regretted signing up for Tink. However, Tink was so fun (Purple Hat ladies, lots and lots of spectators, high school bands, dance troups...) and I think 501st legion and Rebel Legion will be at Light Side. There were definitely parts with nothing through the residential sections and my pace suffered, but it wasn't too bad. I'm not sure why this thread is so quiet, even Tink's and Dark Side's threads are popping more. I think this board skews more WDW in general.

Here's a youtube video link to 501st at Disneyland last year. They had R2D2s!!!!!! So excited! I really hope they're there this year. I'll be taking All The Pictures!

LOVE them!!!! I just have a simple black tank that says "Star Wars" for the 10k and a R2D2 hoodie tank for the half.

I love the R2D2 for the half. So cuuuuuuuuuuute. :)

I've mentioned this a few times: I want to be comfortable when I run (no fairy wings, ever). So everything will be a running item that's themed. I love that you do this too!

True (no wings for me either!) - I have so much respect for anyone running in full costume or full make up like a twi'lek. I run too hot.

We get our corrals/waivers usually a week after marathon weekend does. As they got theirs yesterday - I expect to see ours next week at some point!

Race Day Atmosphere has a lot of energy and excitement but what I love about Disneyland races is that I can 'sleep' in a little more. As all the hotels are within walking distance, you don't have to wake up at 2:30AM/3:00AM and take a bus to get to the corrals. Yes, we still get to the corrals when they open (4AMish) but I can wake up at 3:30 for that. When the race is over, its much easier to just get back to the room and get cleaned up.

The route between year 1 and 2 were almost the same, except for some routing in the parks being different. When you leave Disneyland Property, its actually pretty awesome as well. There are school groups and bands playing along Harbor. You get to run by Walt Disney's original Studio and there is the 501st set up for a quarter mile stretch which is also really nice. You actually see more support at Disneyland along the course than you do at WDW races because of the routes. (I do a trip report each year)

@Dis_Yoda - which race do you recommend more for stopping and taking pictures, the 10k or half? (if you're only planning on stopping for one of the races)

This is going to be dependent on your corral and pace. I recommend 5K for photos usually as pace doesn't matter there as much. The 10K has less places for sweeping though so if you are on the slow side you can get away with more stops but if you are on the fast side - the half is good as a lot of people don't stop if they did multiple races. The 10K and Half have almost the same amount of characters in the Disneyland portion - but the Half gets the 501st in the park which is awesome! So much creativity and the lines are nonexistent because there are so many of them.

Love your outfits! Since this is my first ever race, I think I'm going to mix the Rey costume and just go with a tee shirt. Been looking at a few options. Where are your tees from? Are these regular or sport tees? I really like a design from a company but they are just regular 100% cotton tees. Wondering if that'll be fine for the race?

@94bruin - most of my running shirts are from Raw Threads. (Leia is not). I like their shirts because they don't hold moisture and odors, and feel super comfy when running!! I checked the tags and saw that one of my shirts is: 55% cotton, 40% bamboo, and 5% elastane for stretch. They move when you move and are hands down my favorite shirt to run in. They come in tanks, racers, short sleeve and long sleeve. Never been disappointed with s design or fit!! :)
