Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Only thought here is if you had a friend who already had Memory Maker, why would you buy it as they could download photos for you and no need for you to buy...

This is the same for Enchanted Tales with Belle... you can download your friends (and even strangers) photos as well. In fact, I think if you are connected with friends and family through MDE, you can share any of your photos from Disney, and only one person really needs the Memory Maker package.

They may find a way to make it more individualized with bib numbers, but if so, they would still need some way of allowing people to search for their photos since bib recognition is not 100% accurate.

They already use facial recognition software for pics on their cruises. It can't be that big of a leap to think they'll do it in the park too... eventually. Lol

I'm so anxious for more information about this race weekend, especially for the event guide to be posted. I've got my sights set on going next year and can't wait to see the course maps. :) So I may not be going this year, but I look forward to hearing about everyone's experiences.

I am following the Galloway Dark Side Challenge training plan, but had to move everything up a week as I have commitments that fell on all the back to back running weekends. I completed 4 on Saturday and 11 on Sunday. Looks like I might be taking the next two weeks off, however. I am experiencing a piriformis syndrome flare up and it is just not getting better. Gonna just take it easy, walk to get some exercise, and lots of stretching and strengthening exercises.

I am doing the same, and having the SAME PIRIFORMIS problem... have you found anything that has worked? All I can do is take Advil before and after the run. I've done some of the exercises they suggest online, but haven't found anything that works really well. I did switch up my shoes, which has helped some, but it's not gone completely. I have never had Piriformis issues before.... it seems like each time I do one of these rundisney events, I find a new running injury to experience.

Ok, I'm trying to plan a costume for the 10k/half but the weather has me greatly concerned about what my realistic options are for these races. First on my list for the 10k was Matt, the Radar technician but I suspect it might be way too hot to run in that... What are people thinking costume wise?

Has anyone seen any travel agents/groups with bibs still available (without a hotel stay)? Thanks!

Acclaim travel sent an email yesterday saying they have bibs and their website says all their hotel rooms are booked so I think they have just bibs. They also said registration closes tonight.

Thanks for the info, Momma! I just checked it out and they have the challenge, 10K, and 5k available. But not the half. :sad2: After doing GSC, I'm not sure I can handle another challenge!

Funny enough, I'm planning on Matt for the a half and R2 for the 10k!

But with sparkle skirts. Because they make a girl run faster. It's scientifically proven ;)

I don't want to sound alarmist but DO NOT TAKE ADVIL BEFORE A RUN. After a run take it once you've urinated at least once, but I would avoid it then too, take Tylenol instead - that is safe. It can do major damage to kidneys taking NSAIDS for running.

Wow. I had no idea. I just read some articles on that. Very scary! I knew if affected the kidneys, but didn't think about the deyhydration factor. Thanks!

I got injured with piriformis syndrome in November before Dopey....I had to turn all my training into run/walks, avoid hills, cut way back on miles and get deep tissue massages. The deep tissue massages were awful but it worked it out (you don't want that muscle to shorten as it heals so the massage helps keep it stretched out if that makes sense)...sadly I would like to say I'm healed now, but it still flares up some when I sit or run hills causing major sciatic pain in my lower back/hip (which is like a secondary issue to it all). All through Dopey I used lots of tiger balm, it wasn't terrible then and I thought it was all gone by mid-January, but it's still a nagging issue. I try to get in extra walks all day to help stretch out too and avoid sitting so much. Good luck with yours, but yeah Advil isn't good to take for running as said above.

If it weren't for Deep Tissue Massages and regular yoga, I doubt I could keep running.

I just wish my husband would listen to me on the benefits for it! (He did a 16.1 mile run yesterday and is feeling it bad in his knee today!)

So I know some of us have talked about where we are eating the night before the race, but what about after? I typically don't feel like eating a big meal right after a long run, but am thinking I should splurge for dinner. Anyone else? Anyone planning to go to the parks the day of the race?

We will be going to Cali Grill for a nice brunch after then headed to Epcot with dinner at Rose n crown to relax and watch illuminations.

Obviously, people should follow their own doctors' advice, etc etc.

I take Advil on a regular basis for neck issues -- helps the problem (Tylenol does nothing) -- and is safer than alternatives to address this pain.

I do avoid taking Advil BEFORE OR DURING a run, especially long runs. Per my doctors (and research I've done -- always do my own as a Biochem major!), the same worry does not exist in taking it AFTER a run.

And FYI, as a general principle, risk of liver toxicity from Tylenol is far greater than kidney impacts from Advil, from what I can tell from related research.

I'm assuming it'll be the usual warm, humid weather we always have here in mid-April, so I'll be keeping it simple and light, for sure.
