Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Anyone else get an email from runDisney and have their stomach flip??? Of course it was just an email to say the Event Guide is available. (as if we didn't know already) :D

yep, got a few hours ago. I am waiting for this thread to blow up when waivers come out...'cause the email waiver will probable be a couple of days after.
guess we will get another email about the igiftbag??

Hey guys! Here's to hoping that we get our bib numbers and corrals today. I just thought of something about the waivers though. If I'm doing the 5k and the GSC will I need to print out two copies?

Yes. If they do it like last year, two separate waivers, two separate spots to pick up bibs and two separate areas for shirts.

I still cannot download the event guide. It's telling me the file is corrupted. I've tried with three different browsers and none are working. :badpc:

Just caught up on everything, getting exciting now!!

Where can I view the igiftbag please?

You guys! I have been stalking this thread like mad over the past week. This is my first runDisney & half marathon, so I am excited & a little apprehensive -- but I know it will be magical. Question for those who have done this before: In the event guide email and other places, they discourage the use of headphones. I want to enjoy the course and the entertainment, but are there lots of lulls with nothing? Should I bring a play list/headphones for the boring bits?

The reason they discourage the use of headphones is because there are audio cues for hazards coming up (speed bumps, course narrows, etc). If you're planning on listening to music, I highly advise that you use the one-in-one-out method of wearing them. That being said, I've brought headphones with me for every PHM I've run, but have never actually used them, lol. The backwoods stretch between miles 7-9 can be a bit of a lull, but I like the quiet there because it's so peaceful.

I've done Disneyland 5k and Half, Jingle Jungle 5K and Wine & Dine and then all four races for Dopey. The full marathon was the ONLY race I haven't worn headphones for, but that's because I was running with two people AND I was pretty burnt on my playlist. I would bring them and at minimum keep one ear in, just in case.

I submitted my PoT back in early November, but I'm right on the cusp of finishing times, so I'm interested to see where I'll place in the corrals. I was in E last year, and I'll be happy in E again, but I kinda would like an earlier corral.

I agree with the above, bring them for the boring parts. This course there are not too many audio warnings, but there are a couple. The speed bumps is the one that makes me giggle. I always wear mine, but I think both years I did not actually turn the music on until after passing the Grand Floridian around mile 7-8. The early part is just sort of crowded enough that I want to hear whats going on around me. Don't need them in the park, and then theres usually good crowd support near GF. But wow, that stretch of highway headed back to epcot, need my music there.

I use headphones for all my runs and couldn't imagine going 13.1 miles without them - but I replaced the noise-cancelling earbuds with safsounds- they make a kind of tip with channels in it, so it allows sound ambient sound in (safer if you're like me and run on roads in a busy city). I figured that way I will still be able to hear audio cues, but won't have to give up my music/running app during the race. From the look of the course, that's a whole lotta highway between the Magic Kingdom and the finish line. I expect I'll need something to listen to!

Thanks, guys! I'm going to bring the headphones and be prepared just in case. I usually run with one in/one out for safety reasons, regardless.

Since we are all waiting for corrals -- what are your favorite Disney songs for your running play list? I have some Disney dance/house mix CDs that I haven't listened to in years. I might need to review those for inspiration!

Last year was my first PHM weekend and I thought the same in regards to needing music when I ran. However, somehow having the earbuds in really threw me off in that I could hear more extraneous noise (sweatshirt zipper, bib rubbing against sparkleskirt, etc.) that really drove me crazy. I didn't wear them the next day and just used the sights/sounds/atmosphere around me, and I found I almost preferred that. Mind you when I train and run by myself I NEED music but for Disney races, I'm going without. Obviously it's always a personal preference. You may find music works perfect or it bothers you too much. If you're doing the 5k, it's a good race to test stuff out with.
