Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Keah…I am also going to defer the 10K. I diagnosed with cancer on Nov. 13, and I am scheduled to have chemo earlier that week, and there is just no way that my body will be able to race by the weekend, let alone train for the race. It is my hope and prayer that I will be recovered enough to race in 2017.

i understand completely. I am currently in remission from a cancer diagnosis in Sepetmeber 2014 that was misdiagnosed at a benign tumor for 7 months. I know what kind of internal turmoil you are going through! Disney in large part got me through a bulk of the bad. I had issues with my blood pressure prior to surgery and they were gonna cancel. But they told me to go to my happy place and see if it came down. By goodness, I closed my eyes and imagined going down Main Street USA during the run and I brought it down a lot.

Let us know if you ever need anyone to talk to. You aren't alone!!!

So excited!! Here are the close-ups from Facebook:

I'd say they are all pretty predictable (compared to past years) but I still am so excited to actually see them!! :)

Just got home from my run, saw these on Instagram and had a sprint finish to my laptop to see them properly.

Love the colours, green and purple are my favourite :goodvibes

Not sure about the green background on the Glass Slipper medal, but apart from that I really like them.

No masks (at Avengers there were plenty of face covering masks, those I believe will now be out). Clothing dragging the ground is prohibited, not smart at a race anyway. And clothing with multiple layers is subject to search.

I'd also guess running with a fake gun prop, like Princess Leia with a blaster, will be out. But only time will tell.

Rut roh. I have a Princess Leia blaster as part of my 10k costume:

It's super fake looking, but it would still meet the criteria for not being allowed in a park. Has there been any guidance about using such props during a race?

It looks like "toy guns" are specifically excluded in yesterday's runDisney blog post. Well, dang. That was a wasted ten bucks!

Princess Leia will live on, though!
I won't the GUNS,
but at least I'll have the BUNS...

Do you know when deferrals open up? I emailed runDisney back in November and they told me it would be today (Jan. 5) but didn't give me a time.
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis but I'm betting you will be back in 2017 and stronger than ever!

Thanks. I have successfully deferred for next year. I am also registered for the Star Wars 10K in April. Still hoping I can make that one even if I only walk it.

I'm sending you prayers for a speedy return to good health! I'm also doing the Star Wars 10K. See you there!

I was super happy to see the medals posted on facebook this afternoon.

I added all the rest of my training runs to the calendar this morning. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. I've got a lot of miles to put in. Seeing the bling is great motivation for sure.

Here is my plan for the weekends. I'd be happy to hear if anyone has any feedback on this. I do a 4ish mile run on Tuesday nights and a 3ish mile interval run on Thursdays.

Week - Sat/Sun
1 - 3/5
2 - 3/7
3 - 4/9
4 - 5/11
5 - 6/13
6 - 5/0

I'm wondering if I would be better off doing one long run on week two instead of two back to back days. I'm also wondering if I should go all the way to the 6/13 distances week 5 or dial that back a bit.

Kind of bummed with the GSC medal . Gold glass slipper. When I saw last year's at Think I was so excited, really don't care for the gold on this one. The rest at nice .
Hope it looks better in real.
