Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

So I ran 6.2 this evening on the treadmill in 71:40. Not terrible! Gonna see how crappy I feel tomorrow. Plan on running at least 9. BUT my knees started hurting around mile 5 or so. Will depend but getting in at least 4. Grrr! Wish we had longer but wish it would get here faster.....if that makes any sense! Lol!!

Thanks!! I appreciate the leads!! My DH looked at me like I needed to be admitted to a psych hospital when I told him my goal for the year! Now I just have to prove him wrong!!!
I told mine and his response was "why does that require a credit card?"

Ariel, I wanted to let you know that I read all of the tips that Dave posted. Thank you so much. They have really helped. The tip to look up and straight ahead is keeping my back from hurting. I used to look down, just out of habit. The Chi walking info helped a lot too. So, thank you very much!! It's amazing how a few simple changes can make such a big difference.

Well, I didn't

Well this morning was the first that I doubted I could do this. I know it is mostly nerves but I barely finished 3 with a sever case of side stitch that I think was caused by pushing too hard on time last night and not focusing on my breathing. But anyways. My goal of at least 4 was more than what the training plan called for so I am not too mad at myself. Tomorrow is a rest day and then hit it again Tuesday.

Oh boy 45 days to go!
Got an email from the TA yesterday to finalize my transportation , park tickets etc. Also to open a Disney Account to put in hotel confirmation. Everything is in order now!
Went out at 7 this morning very icy, walked to the dyke to find gravel path ran 5 mIles. I'm doing Hal Higdon training plan running 4 times a week. I'm on week#6 this week the mileage cuts but I'm supposed to do a 5 km race. I'm thinking of changing this week to mileage instead maybe long run 14.50 km because I want to do a longer taper. I'm doing spin classes interval training and pace lines , 3 a week. And one short run a week is speed intervals. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I have a bad cold I just can't shake it has been since beginning of Nov and the thought of a 5 race it so hard. I hate changing training programs around. My husband said suck it up Buttercup! He has been great helping me through my training runs. Normally I do Galloway plans but wanted a shorter plan. Hope this will be enough for the GS

Well ladies...I'm thinking I'm going to defer the 10K. It breaks my heart to have to do it, but I just don't think I'll be up to 6 miles comfortably by then with all of setbacks I'm having. Last year was so painful, I don't want to start that way again this year.

So has anyone made their own running skirt? If so, any online websites you found helpful would be great to share.

Oh no! Remind me where you are with your training? But you have to listen to your body and decide what is best for you!

I would just go to Pinterest and look for diy running skirts. There are loads of tutorials there. Good luck!

I know you have to listen to your body but such sad news. Are you sure the energy of the people could not help you get through. The smiles of others is very powerful and the encouragement from passers-byer. Hope you will give it a second thought. But totally understand .

I am at just about 2 miles, and it's a hard 2 miles. Sometimes I can run it and sometimes I can't. The pain is just so unpredictable right now, I don't think it would be a good idea. I have races that I had to miss this year because of this injury, and I don't want to do it again.

I'm not worry about whether I can do it mentally. I finished the GSC in 2015 on adrenaline in 2015, when I probably shouldn't have and I have been paying for it ever since.

Aw Keah, I'm so sorry. But with this year you've had, you know what you can and can't do.

I did. It's not that hard. Easier if you have a sewing machine but doable without one. I used this tutorial and it came out pretty well. There's a bit of a learning curve so if you plan on making more than one start with the one you care least about first.

Keah I would say that it is best to defer. If pushing last year has given you an injury you are still dealing with, then pushing this year could put you out for a long time.

I'm just a wee bit behind in my training, thanks to a chest cold I started to come down with on New Year's Eve. Today is the first day I woke up without any throat scratchiness, so it's looking like I'm starting to kick it out of my system. Went for a great 6-miler yesterday, it was sunny and brisk and just a great run. I didn't get to do 3 miles on Saturday to start my back-to-back runs, though, but that's ok, because I can work that into my miles for this weekend.

I ordered the last components for my race outfits over the weekend, yay! Scored this Ariel running skirt for the PHM: https://www.etsy.com/listing/198226511/running-circle-skirt-princess-disney?ref=shop_home_active_4

Now all that's left to order is my fiance's costume stuff for the 5K (Wreck It Ralph) & 10K (Captain Hook).

Thanks. That's what I'm thinking. I want to have a lot of years left to run and I still have many races on my bucket list. I want to nip this in the bud now.

I have not run since my half on December 12th. Here is what I am thinking about to jump back into training. Please feel free to comment and give me your opinions!

1/09/16 4 miles
1/16/16 6 miles
1/23/16 5 miles
1/30/16 8 miles
2/06/16 6 miles
2/13/16 10 miles
2/21/16 Princess Half

I don't want to do too much, too fast and re injure myself!

ETA: I plan on doing the 30 minute runs on Tuesday and Thursdays too!
