Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

So jealous! Our FP+/online check-in day is Sunday.

P.S. You wanna know how nerdy I am? I based my disneybounding outfits on what I'm wearing for the races that day, and I based the theme of our mousekeeping tipping envelopes on each of my disneybounding outfits. For instance, I'll be disneybounding as Tink for the 10K and when we go to DHS, so our tip envelope has Tink on it. :)

Super great idea! I'm disneybounding for the first time this trip, and I'm super excited!

So excited to pick out FP! Our finalized plan:

18th: Fly, check in at POP
19th: Expo, AK, dinner at Yaki and Yeti
20th: MK, lunch at BOG, back to resort for rest and dinner
21st: RACE! Nap/shower, EP, dinner at Via Napoli
22nd: HS, dinner at Ohana
23rd: MK until noon, then have to take bus to DME to go home :(

I agree with you. And we pretty much know what the Glass Slipper Challenge medal will be like (they really backed themselves into a corner with the design on that one...).

But yeah, I feel like since it's not an anniversary year for the race, your thoughts on the other medals are exactly what I'm thinking - no big changes this year. The 5K medallion for Disneyland Half Marathon weekend was exactly what they had on the "In Training" cover photo, so I assumed it would be the same for this weekend as well. :confused3

That makes a ton of sense. I think it is just the anticipation though!

Ok! At the risk of sounding like a Disney virgin (which I have been 6 times) what is disneybounding???

Dressing up as a character without a costume per se; using street clothes (color, patterns, etc.) to get across the point of a character without hitting everyone over the head with it. I think it's fun but I've never done it myself.

This will be my first time to DW. So needing some advise. The travel agent has booked the Beach Club for us, he said it was really close to everything. I'm running the GSC my husband just coming for support. My question trying to decide which kind of park ticket to get? We are only there for 4 nights arriving late Wednesday evening, flying out Sunday afternoon. I don't want to walk a whole bunch before my events. My biggest concern is that my husband can see me finish. Will he need a park pass for Epcot. The TA has told me I will have to take a bus to the start line. Can my husband accompany me and get back to the hotel to wait for me to finish the half than go back up? Just trying to decide on a 2 day pass or park hopper. We just like to walk around , we are not ride people. Just finding the whole thing confusing. I watched all kinds of videos on DW it looks so huge. So if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Aw ok! Makes total sense!!

@Panikim @preciouspups In my PTR (which I only posted on twice-- I need to get back to that!), I put up some pics of my disneybounding outfits. So far I have Rapunzel, Ariel, and Snow White. I'm still putting together my Aurora which I will wear the day of PHM (since my running costume will be Aurora as well)http://disboards.com/threads/three-...rks-and-one-half-marathon-a-2-16-ptr.3452328/
Thanks!! Now I am officially obsessing over needing to that now!! Ha! DH says that this will be our last trip to Disney for a while (on our first trip as a family he said before the trip that it was a one time thing and we were only home 24 hours before he declared we would be returning in 2016)! So gotta make the most of it!

Oh goodness! My DH (in this instance may not be darling) just inquired if we had invited a couple to go with us and our two children to Disney for the run. Everyone has done the "oh yall should come along" conversation that is really just a formality and being polite and carrying on conversation. Well thet called my DH(not darling) and wanted to just clarify the dates so they could set up their time share!!!!

Without wanting to sound like a Debbie Downer but I am NOT changing any of my plans that have been worked on for months so they can be included. That doesn't sound unreasonable does it??

You're there for a run. When poeple are doing long runs, they are allowed to be very protective of their time, their feet, and their stomach. You set up your plans based on those things, and you cannot change them.

One of the reasons I didn't sign up for the Half for January's Star Wars or Feb's Princess is because a Half requires me to be REALLY protective of my stomach, and I get really weird and difficult. I didn't want to do that for these trips.

So if you protect yourself, you're just being a runner. And if people don't understand, that's OK. You know why you're there.

People really took casual conversations to mean they should actually go with you? Hmm.

Ha! Yea. I would have been totally fine had it not been the only conversation we have had about it and almost a year ago. If we had all this lined out (again my type A personality) then it wouldn't be an issue because I would have schedule EVERYONEs stuff.

And thanks! You just made me feel a little better! When I refer to myself as a runner, I feel like a bit of a poser or sham. Thanks for validating me!

Oh, I read yesterday on the Disney Parks Blog that Contempo Café will have a special cupcake for PHM weekend. I don't know if they've done that before.
WOO...I am HERE for that. :teeth:

I think I found a picture of the one from last year but the Dis doesn't seem to want to let me post it. :(

Beach Club is definitely an excellent location. You're within walking distance of Epcot (no more than a 10-minute walk - you would enter through the back entrance which is called the International Gateway) and Hollywood Studios (no more than a 20-minute walk). Just walking around and looking at the other surrounding resorts (Yacht Club next door and Boardwalk across the lake) is fun too. They also have boats that take you to Epcot/Hollywood Studios, so if you're super serious about staying off of your feet, you can take the boats. You can get to Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom by bus (or walk through Epcot and get the monorail to Magic Kingdom - would require a park hopper).

Personally I like to get park hoppers just to have the option to go from park to park, but I guess that's a decision you guys can make. In staying at the Beach Club you would have the option of popping into Epcot to get lunch or whatever from World Showcase, which is nice. And then if you have a hopper you could still head to a different park. If you only have 2 park days I think I would recommend the hopper.

Your husband will not need a ticket to get into Epcot to see you at the finish line - the finish line is in an Epcot parking lot. He'll need to take the race transportation to get there without using a ticket - alternative would be entering the park through the International Gateway and walking through the park to get to the finish line that way. Your TA is right that your husband can take the bus to the start with you, but keep in mind that there will be a certain point where he won't be allowed to walk any further with you, so he won't be able to be with you the entire time. And if he's really going for husband of the year status, since you're staying at Beach Club it would be easy for him to watch some of the 10K as well. :) If you look at the course map you'll notice the 10K goes right by your resort.

Nope. Preparing for these runs is not trivial and you have been planning this trip for awhile. In the world of Disney planning, this is pretty last-minute to make major changes.

Anyone else scared to hear the answer for how the new no costumes at WDW for those over 14 will affect the races? I get both sides of the argument, not sure where I fall in terms of my opinion. The idea that it is all security theater is fairly valid I think, but I also am in favor of keeping people safe. I guess the real question is how do these new changes (metal detectors used randomly and no costumes) really increase security?

For the 10k and half I run with themed running attire as opposed to a true costume anyway, but I was going to get a bit more into it for the 5k this year with my daughter. Guess there is nothing to do but wait and see what they say:confused3.

I thought that costumes for anyone over the age of 12 were prohibited before, except for MNSSHP? I've never worn a traditional costume to WDW, the most I've done is disneybounding. I thought their no-costumes rule for adults was so that children didn't confuse them for face characters inside the parks. Honestly, in terms of security, I'd be more concerned with people wearing overly loose/baggy clothing than costumes.

When it comes to the races, same thing for me - I have never worn a traditional costume (how itchy and hot would I get!). Since the races occur outside of park hours, I would assume that if a runner intended to visit the parks after the race concluded and they were in an actual costume, then they'd be asked to change before being allowed to enter the parks.

As for the metal detectors, I don't mind them at all. Sure, it might take away from the 'magical' feeling, but if it means we're safe, then so be it. The times they are a-changing. However, I think they should be required for all guests, not just a random selection. One, that could land Disney in hot water for "profiling" their random selectees, and two, just because Grandpa Joe who got selected in front of me isn't packin' a .45 on his hip doesn't mean that the guy behind me doesn't have a revolver stashed in his boot. Andplusalso, if they actually move to replace bag check with metal detectors, then they really need to make it mandatory for all to enter.

Just finished another training run. I am really having trouble switching gears. I did the Avengers challenge weekend in November, and I just can't seem to find my rhythm since then. I am doing my runs, and my pace is solid, in fact faster than it should be likely because I want to get the run over with. I just am not enjoying the runs as much as I usually do. Normally this time of year I'd blame the weather, but its been great here in MA this year. I am hoping starting to get ready for the trip (such as making fast passes Friday) will help my motivation, but right now I am struggling.

I COMPLETELY feel you. I haven't been motivated AT ALL since the fiasco that was wine and dine. No, not saying that that did it, just meant that as a time frame reference. I came home with the intent to take off until Thanksgiving, well since then I've only been able to do a few maintaince runs. Nothing longer than 5 miles. My heart just isn't in it.....

Maybe when the event guide/bib numbers/corrals/waivers come out it will help. I know just having the event guide released the other day for SW Half Weekend at DL put the FEAR in me and I started training hard again.
